The results are gonna be all over the place—there's just too much good stuff here, and we could easily end up with a four or five-way tie. I stuck to picking just three albums because there's no point in voting for everyone. So, we're back at square one. My suggestion for next time? Whoever suggests an album first, that's what we listen to.
Or maybe—whoever has the closest birthday gets a veto.😁

I was actually thinking it’d be pretty cool to dive into those weird Pidgin English variations, like with Feline. Then I realized 'roforofo' actually means 'mud' in Yoruba, whereas I spent the whole time thinking 'rofo' was just some Pidgin way of saying 'rough'—making 'roforofo' basically mean 'super rough.' 😁 We actually studied how certain languages double up adjective roots like that just to add emphasis back in college.

I have to admit, I’m much more interested in hearing your take on... 14 on the Reggae Billboard Chart. I'm ready. Send over the text. On the Corner.

So, about these expanded CD versions... I’ve been spinning the 38-minute vinyl cut of F (upside down) A (upside down) (infinity), and honestly, it’s exactly the right length. Now, WikiWiki claims the CD version clocks in at 64 minutes. Is that actually the definitive edition, or did they just tack on a few extra crescendos or some other filler?

There’s this Japanese band—no hype, no screaming fans—but they absolutely crushed an album released the same year as the vinyl version of Unknown.

Forget those expanded CD versions... I listened to the 38-minute vinyl version of F (high) A (high) (infinity) and it hits exactly when it needs to. Wiki says the CD clocks in at 64 minutes. Is that actually the definitive cut, or did they just tack on some extra crescendos or whatever?

Also, there's this Japanese band—no backing vocals, just a dash—that seriously holds their own against that album from the same year as the Unknown vinyl.

Dub/reggae isn't really my scene. I pretty much write it off before even trying—though I've been thinking about fixing that by digging into some classics outside the usual Marley/Tosh/Black Uhuru circle, which I know decently well despite only checking it out maybe three times in ten years.

I spun On the Corner maybe three times about a decade ago, and honestly, something about it just didn't click for me. It felt like this aggressive collage—just way too much "energy" for its own good. When it comes to Davis's fusion era, there's no competition for me—A Tribute to Jack Johnson and In a Silent Way are the only ones I keep on constant rotation.

I saw that vinyl release of F, but the one I have feels more right. This is music you have to sink into—the timing is everything. Imagine if Be Kind lasted 50 minutes with the exact same tracklist.

Understood. I'll make sure to dive into the CD version next.

I went ahead and cast my vote—if GY/BE is meant to be, well... let it happen!

redbear12 said:At first, I heard this track completely out of context with the rest of the album, and man, it felt like the weirdest thing I’d ever listened to.

It actually pulled me back in for a few more listens, though—pretty interesting. 👍

analogbear40 said:The Triffids - Calenture (1987)

That Unmade stuff is lovely. It reminds me a bit of The Church, which I'm a big fan of, but they sound a little more generic to me right now. Still worth a listen, though—it's my first time hearing them...

Dennis Martin6 said:Raul Lovisoni/Francesco Messina – Prati Bagnati Del Monte Analogo (1979)

Nice, but throw in some more stuff like Dogbowl 😁for me!

Arthur Brown6 said:June Tabor / Iain Ballamy / Huw Warren - quercus (2013)
A can be listened to here.

Really pretty, maybe a little too much for my taste, honestly. 😁

Damir Avdić didn't get enough votes. The guy writes lyrics and holds views you just don't see much of around here. Pure punk integrity. He also threw his vote behind several other artists—pretty interesting poll, as they usually go.

My take? franak Blašković is three levels above him, regardless of age matters.

The real dilemma is just figuring out which one of his 200 albums is actually worth starting with...

Maybe not quite three levels, but I definitely agree that Blašković is top-tier.

Start with this one. Or maybe this one, which is a pure solo effort.

Is there any actual link between forest density and wave action when it comes to how they impact the Izae?

Oh man. I have no idea when or how this actually got voted in... but I am honestly thrilled to see our forest vibes sitting right next to GYBE.

Picked from yesterday's menu:

Ensemble tre fontana - Le Chant des Troubadours Vol 1: Aquitains
I guess I agree with inconnu, this stuff is seriously beautiful. I played the album a few times yesterday... one long May day really sucked me in, just incredible atmosphere.

Raul Lovisoni / Francesco Messina - Prati Bagnati Del Monte Analogo
This one needs a listen too. I actually found the perfect soundtrack for the delicate work of pinching and trimming bonsai branches... it's basically meditation.

quercus and Blue train are perfect albums. They all seem to fit my mood best right now... though I probably could've voted for so many more.

I'll start a new thread immediately so we don't wait, but it'll be short because I know I won't have much time later today or tomorrow. I'm still around (anyway) for the whole weekend and I'm looking forward to your thoughts if you have any. 🙂 🙂

Jason Mendoza said:Are the forest sounds and the waves somehow linked to izae?

I'm not sure... if I remember correctly, the guys from the forest project are all based in New York, and they've been active for years—they just haven't dropped an album lately. izae is a Los Angeles project. Maybe Nikšić (the keyboardist) had a hand in it behind the scenes, which is possible. He's pretty versatile; he seems to be the main guy behind the forest project, but he works on a bunch of other things too...

I’m going to try and get this thread up as early as possible today because once the weekend hits, I won't have any time for 👍

We've got a post-rock weekend ahead of us 😁

Just wrapped up the 64-minute CD edition of F#A#∞. It’s a solid listen. Honestly, the shorter vinyl version doesn't hold up nearly as well here. In my book, it beats the first three sides of LYSFLATH, though that fourth side—specifically ...Antennas...—is easily the highlight. There's far less reliance on those cliché crescendos, and the dynamic range feels much more intentional.

Jason Mendoza said:post rock (...)

At their peak, I still prefer Tortoise and Cul de Sac over GYBE. Even if Pelt remains my favorite among bands that dabble in North American post-rock, they barely even touch the realm of actual rock music. Mind you, I haven't listened to anything from these guys since 2003, so take this as a rough estimate.

It looks like we’ve ended up with two identical album picks for the week. Honestly, the musical styles are pretty much cut from the same cloth...

"My" album pulled in three votes.🙏 Honestly, I've only spun it once. Sunday is my go-to day for listening—just kick back, lie down, and let it all sink in.

I’ve already got a new suggestion lined up, but I’m gonna hold off for about two months so I don't seem too eager 🙂 which is a total departure from this current album.

Hey! That was actually a really solid suggestion. There’s no point in skipping so many weeks, so maybe just throw something like that out there again whenever you have the time. Up until now, we've basically just been doing a first-come, first-served thing with suggestions, but maybe Amanda Robinson4 might stick with this poll format next time—who knows, we'll see.

I found this pretty interesting. Since there are so many albums and multiple voices involved, you get a much better sense of what people actually like when they aren't forced to pick just one single option.

And hey, feel free to jump into these new threads/albums if you want... 🙂

Man, I feel bad that Cooder didn't take the win—but honestly, it sucks even more that it wasn't Molina, since that would've given me an excuse to just go wild and pour out all my love for Transmission🙏. 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏

Those would be my next two votes. On that record, I think 'peoria lunch box blues' is absolutely killer, though maybe that’s just because Scout Niblett is incredible. She’s one of those rare female vocalists I actually dig. Personally, I’ve always been more into his 'lioness' album. I guess Ry Cooder has better stuff out there too, but I’ve only really sat down and listened to it once... I'll get back to it eventually. 🕺
