Look, I'd put Into The Purple Valley in my top 30-50 albums of all time—no question—but honestly, I don't think I could ever get as hyped about a single track from it as I do with FT.

I've always been really into his world music explorations, too... though maybe only Paradise and Lunch actually holds a candle to ITPV.

Got a few female versions of Dogbowl up my sleeve—I'll drop them when the time is right😁

DJ shadow - Endtroducing

It’s such a brilliant collage. You've got everything from soul, funk, and disco to rock, metal, and these wild futuristic textures. The crazy part? The whole thing was built entirely on the MPC60.

"Building steam with a grain of salt."

Honestly, I’ve been feeling a bit of a craving to get high and dive back into some Coltrane myself, just a different album this time. 😁

Alright, let's get the ball rolling with a brand new poll! This time around, you can pick more than one option, so don't hold back... go nuts!

Looks like I managed to pull this one off right in the nick of time... just like Bonnie Raitt would say.

If you're into heavier sounds, shadow actually sampled Metallica's Orion on the genius Endtroducing album. That's all from me. 😛

Jenny 😍 Conceptual romanca 😍
The arrangements here are just stunning—maybe a tiny bit grating at times, but I’m spinning this for the second* time now, and it's beautiful.

I might be crazy, but it reminds me a bit of Angel Olsen—it's funny, though, because it has that one thing I feel is missing from her stuff.

*EDIT: Actually, fourth. 😁

Oh boy, just got home and I have quite the sight for myself. Trust me, you really don't want me writing about this album. 😁 Aside from that, I wrote about noise last week, and I didn't mean to do it again now. I just added a little spice to this thread...

Ashley Grant66, let me know in the morning if you want in. I'm happy to hand it over since I can see you love it too, and I'd actually enjoy reading your take.

🙂
By the way, 'Period Piece' ended up becoming much dearer to me than 'Conceptual Romance,' though both are really good. The whole album is solid, even if I think she went a bit overboard at certain points, but those arrangements are truly lovely—even those noise parts. Did you listen to her last one from last year? What did you think? I haven't yet.

Though, maybe there will be even more ties later on. My vote is going to DJ Shadow - Endtroducing... and a few others. 🙂

Well, now I see...

Lisa Davis46 said:Oh boy, just got home and I've got quite a sight for sore eyes. Trust me, you really don't want me writing about this album. 😁 Other than that—I wrote about noise last week, and I didn't mean to do it again—I just added this to spice things up a bit for this round...

Of course we want to! 😁
Thanks for the offer, but I'd much rather hear from you—you’re the one who posted it, so I'm sure you have plenty to say, whereas I'm just hearing it for the first time right now.

Quick little side note, just for the Jenny enthusiasts 😁

Lisa Davis46 said: Have you heard her last one from last year? What did you think? I haven't gotten to it yet.

Yeah, I've listened to it a few times. You know, it's actually quite good and easy to listen to—leans more toward electronic vibes than Blood Bitch (which I personally liked better musically). But lately, I've been more preoccupied with the lyrics; there's this ongoing, fascinating deep dive into femininity, biology, and ecology. The word 'childless' echoes through the whole album, like in my favorite track, Accident (It rings a hollow tone: childless). And there's this gorgeous line—simultaneously ironic and peaceful amidst all that contemplation: Once I was an accident, and a mystery of life
The title track is something special, though—it reminds me of Laurie Anderson and has such an interesting backstory behind it.

If you haven't checked out Apocalypse Girl, I'd suggest at least sitting through it once while reading the lyrics. Jenny actually wrote her own annotations on Genius, and I have a feeling you'd find that really interesting. 😁 The album isn't as "musical" as those other two—it doesn't have those massive, show-stopping arrangements—but lyrically, it's incredibly sharp and political. At times, it even feels almost too direct, bordering on, well, hm, somewhat banal feminist questions (though she might have been aiming for that on purpose). For instance, it includes the line I beckon the cupcake, the huge capitalist clit 😁😁
You can really feel that Laurie Anderson is a major influence here (In New York City I don't dream. I always wanted to be less subculturally lonely, but here I see no subculture. No, no future. No big science. No big bananas. But I found no, no future).
From that album, my personal favorite is Black Sabbath.
