Alright, let's take it easy (can't say I'm in the mood to wait until morning)... plus, it's already Thursday anyway 🙂

Frank Turner - Love Ira & song

image

So, we've got a former punk rocker here who pivoted toward a bit of a folk vibe for his solo career, though you can still totally feel that restless, rebellious punk spirit lurking underneath...

Some standout tracks:

Oh maturity's a wrapped up package deal or so it seems
And ditching teenage fantasy means ditching all your dreams
All Your friends and peers and family solemnly tell you you will
Have to grow up, be an adult, yeah be bored and unfulfilled

Oh when no one's yet explained to me exactly what's so great
About slaving 50 years away on something that you hate
Look I'm meekly shuffling down the path of mediocrity
Well if that's your road then take it but it's not the road for me

And i won't SIT down
And i won't shut up
and i won't SIT down and i won't shut up and most of All i will not grow up...

And if all you ever do with your life
Is photosynthesize
Then you deserve every hour of these sleepless nights
That you waste wondering when you're gonna die

Cassandra Jenkins - an Overview on Phenomenal Nature

“I’m a three legged dog / workin’ with what I got / and part of me will always be / looking for what I lost.”

This singer-songwriter just blew me away with her latest release. It’s got this effortless, unpretentious vibe and some seriously smart lyrics. The ambient finish, layered with nature sounds and a floating saxophone that isn't overbearing at all, fits perfectly. It just settles right into the easy, breezy flow of Cassandra's musical story.

I had established a personal rule to cast exactly three votes during elections—but looking at the current landscape, I can already see it’s going to be incredibly difficult to stick to that limit this week.

What a hell of a week (again).

😁Looks like both Amanda Robinson4 and Dennis Martin6 are leaning into that redneck vibe.

You've got Tony Iommi tearing through the guitar on Utopian Blaster, while Kenny Ball handles the trumpet on Fangalactic Supergoria.

It definitely pulls from that Celtic Frost vibe, and honestly, if we're talking about bands in that vein, I'm still really digging Triptykon lately.👍

Recorded and mixed at Trident Studios, December 1982.
With thanks to Stevo, Jane, Marion, Stuart.

During those first few years of their career, the band was—to put it bluntly—totally locked into their own world. They were unapologetically following a very specific path, exploring the sonic landscapes of their home city. They’d find inspiration in the abandoned industrial plants, empty warehouses, and hollowed-out factories where the ghostly echoes of metal-on-metal structures seemed to hang in the air. It was raw, it was gritty, and it was entirely their own.

After successfully landing John Robie to handle a remix for the 1982 12" Yashar, they started catching eyes in circles they hadn't touched before. That’s when the legendary Stevo from Some Bizzare came up with a clever little strategy. He wanted to bridge the gap between their experimental vision and the more commercial electronic waves sweeping through the US in the early 80s. Essentially, he helped "smooth out" that piercing, jagged sound just enough to make it accessible. With some heavy financial backing from their new label, Virgin Records, they dove into recording The Crackdown. This LP was really their big leap toward the kind of mainstream recognition they eventually enjoyed during their peak years from 1983 to 1987.

Advice for the Young at Heart. It’s such a classic sentiment, isn't it? It reminds me of those old jazz standards where everything feels timeless and a little bit bittersweet. It's like finding a vintage vinyl in a dusty corner of a shop in New York City—unexpected, yet exactly what you needed.

Year of the Knife

With all due respect, I really feel like this legendary album deserves a much more detailed and thorough breakdown—especially if it doesn't end up taking the top spot as Album of the Week.

For now, let's just count it as one voice. 😉

, seeing this go down at 11:59 PM with such an obviously favored candidate... it’s honestly soul-crushing. It just drains the life out of you.
.....Why on earth did I even sit down and write such a massive wall of text in the first place?.....🙄🙄

🙂

I was torn between suggesting this one or Raoul and The Kings of Spain—which is just as dear to me and something I practically wore out in my younger days—but Badman's song ultimately tipped the scales toward The Seeds.😁

Sounds pretty catchy to me—I've definitely given it a few spins already...

Dennis Martin6 said:I was just spinning through some old Mayo Thompson tracks—specifically Corky's Debt from his Father—and man, that 1970 vibe is something else. It’s got such a distinct, raw energy to it!

I wasn't really expecting much, but it turned out to be awesome—I actually ended up listening to it twice while I was tackling some boring chores! 😁 To be honest, the vocals aren't really my thing—I usually have to have a drink or two before I can actually enjoy them—but man, those arrangements are killer. They're just right, you know? Not too over the top, but definitely not boring either.

Dennis Hall41 said:I was just revisiting John Prine’s self-titled debut from '71—honestly, such a masterpiece. It’s one of those records that feels like sitting on a porch in a small town somewhere in the Midwest, just listening to someone tell the truth. Pure magic.

Just spinning this album again—honestly, such a classic! It really takes me back to those late nights listening to vinyl in my apartment.

Man, I really wanted that one to grab me—especially with such a simple and wonderfully "innocent" cover. I can tell there’s so much heart and soul poured into those lyrics, but honestly, it's just not my kind of music—you know how it is!

I'm not quite sure what that means—sounds like a little bird chirping at me! Anyway, hope everyone's having a great day. kaže:
Kings of Leon - Only by the Night (2008)

It’s a shame it wasn't at least Because of The Times... honestly, I feel like people just got tired of how much the singles from this album jumped around—it was a bit much. I practically wore out their first three albums back in high school, but after this one dropped, I started drifting away from them.

Jesse Jackson3 said:Tears for Fears – The Seeds of Love (1989)

There are some seriously cool Talk Talk vibes happening here and the energy is great—but honestly, it feels a little too much like that over-the-top, cheesy side of the 80s for my taste. 😁 The cover art is way too cluttered—honestly, sometimes less really is more! But man, that track "Year of the Knife" has been stuck in my head all day.

analogbear40 said:Cabaret Voltaire - The Crackdown (1983)

I stumbled upon this little gem while cooking earlier—it’s a bit one-note for me, though. That chill vibe reminds me of Haiti where there aren't any vocals, but some tracks just don't sit right; the rhythm gets old pretty fast. I’m much happier listening to something like Oppenheimer analysis 😁

I used to absolutely love 😍
And I always remember Franko Turner for those killer festival parties—we never really clicked personally, but he's definitely a legend...
