Just so we're all on the same page, voting with clones isn't happening. Seriously... 🙂

Grunge stands as the final major musical revolution in the States. Personally, I’m a huge fan and I’ll never get tired of spinning it.

But honestly, my obsession with Alice in Chains is on a completely different level. They are just a brilliant band with legendary albums; every single record tells its own story and hits me differently. I’ve probably lost count of how many hundreds of times I’ve sat through their self-titled album.

The whole point here isn't about trashing what other people like. Look, I wish Devin had made the cut because he’s a phenomenal musician, and I’m just as big on Neurosis, but if they didn't make it, then that's just how it goes.

I really hope they disqualify that clone creator proposal—just gotta keep things fair for everyone else actually playing by the rules. 😉

The only thing that isn't fair is what's happening to Alice in Chains; they deserve to have at least one record slapped with an "Album of the Week" title. 😁

I don't think we need to go throwing anyone out just yet! The proposal is totally fine as it stands, and if we end up with enough votes, the person who suggested it can just start their own thread for it anyway... keeps things simple!

That said, we really feel like this is the absolute last time someone tries to rig a poll like this. We take these kinds of unfair moves super seriously, and honestly, we hope you guys do too.

And hey, regarding those posts you mentioned, Dennis Hall41, they’re still right there... unless the server decides otherwise, I guess! 😁

Honestly, it’s probably for the best—I was already half-thinking about suing you guys for copyright infringement anyway!

So what, people who play by the rules get treated the exact same way as the cheaters? Fine. If that's how it works, I'm done wasting my breath on this thread. 👋

Oh, please. Where are you even going? 😒

For me, this whole thing is just about sitting back on a Friday, spinning a few albums, and voting for whatever actually sounds good to my ears. I don't view this as some high-stakes competition, and honestly, I couldn't care less if my picks or my favorites don't take home the win.

Wait, so Modest Mouse is the (only) album of the week now?

We went ahead and manually stripped those invalid points. We actually did the exact same thing once before when another user handled it, and everything worked out just fine... Anyway, this week's fresh releases are coming from Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and Modest Mouse.

Nathan Murphy said:Look, if I can stomach all that artsy, pretentious garbage like Talking Heads and those other 80s disasters—hell, I'll even deal with grunge—then anything goes. Most of the stuff being posted here is just straight-up elitist snobbery. It’s always the same thing, isn't it? Just people trying way too hard to act cool because they listen to ambient music. "Oh, look at us, we're so deep and sophisticated." Give me a break. 🙏 Honestly, the absolute best bands are always those pretentious types playing around with art-rock, post-punk, and all that other nonsense—you know, the stuff our precious little intellectuals obsess over because they think it’s "high art" or whatever. It’s such a joke. And don't even get me started on that 80s New Wave scene—absolute garbage.

To each their own, I guess.

I don't see why everyone’s getting so worked up and attacking here—honestly, what's the point? Just suggest a classic album instead. I'm sure if you put out something legit, it'll find its own crowd.

Look, let's be real—we don't all hear the same things, and we definitely don't all feel them the same way. It’s just how it is. Some people pick up on every single note while others are basically tone-deaf to the whole situation, right? We aren't built the same. 🤷
Steven Newman50 said:Let’s just get one thing straight right out of the gate—voting with clones isn't going to fly. Not happening. Period. 🙂

I honestly can’t believe my eyes right now—seriously, is this actually happening? Is there really this kind of stuff floating around out there? 🤦 🙈

Honestly, the whole thing feels like a total joke to me. I mean, that proposal only pulled five votes, which is honestly pretty fine—no big deal. It’s hard to see how Happy Mondays could even stand a chance against Ten or Dirt, right?

@EuroNeeuro You've actually got a great way of looking at this. 👍

I’ve got a suggestion for the 'Album of the Week' index thread. Maybe we could just include a direct link to every winning album? It would make things a whole lot easier when someone wants to jump straight into the thread.

We already have that, right , specifically on the landing pages for the Album of the Week main thread.
🙂

The index thread is basically just an archive—a master list of every album we've suggested so far,
so there's no point in repeating the same info over there too. 😉

Fair enough then. 🙂 I usually just end up scrolling through the main index thread anyway. It’s honestly easier for me to just jump straight into whichever album won the vote among all the nominees. If I do it your way, I have to dig through the entire list just to find out which one actually took the top spot back then.

Quick update for the week:

I’d like the Alice in Chains album proposer, crow89, to let us know if they actually plan on writing the intro for this thread or not. They haven't said anything, and they haven't responded to our necessary moderator intervention either... if we don't get an answer today, someone else will step up.

In that case, maybe our good friend Jason Mendoza could jump in, since he knows quite a bit about this album? 🙂

Also, I’m asking the veterans—the ones who helped build this thread from the ground up by not just suggesting albums but actually showing up for discussions—to please ignore these kinds of situations. I'm thinking specifically of androlože, for whom breaking the rules like this is totally unacceptable.

I get where they're coming from. Some people have been here a long time, they care about the community, and they play fair... we've dealt with similar issues with certain users a few times before, but I won't name names, you guys know who I mean. But, Puky and I have a different approach; we want everyone to feel welcome here. We don't want to be overly harsh, and we love seeing the community grow with new players. At the same time, new players need to read and respect the rules, and realize that in a small group like this, everything gets noticed. There's no point in trying to pull fast ones on us. If something isn't clear, just ask and we'll answer.

And one more thing, in plain English... 🙂 androlože, I think it's honestly pretty stupid to stop posting on this thread (or starting new ones) just because of another round of these rule-breaking games... so look, just let us look the other way this time. From now on, we might just disqualify both the suggestions and the proposers if we have to.

Fass can take over the thread whenever they're ready. We're counting on them to keep their word, so it'll happen when it happens.

Honestly, this whole thread feels like a complete waste of time if fass and androlog aren't going to step up and go head-to-head... If they won't stop bickering and settle this once and for all, then I'm out too.

It’s pretty clear this whole discussion is missing the point.

Every single album suggested week to week deserves an equal shot at the spotlight. At the end of the day, the poll is just meant to narrow things down so we can have a deep dive into one or two winners—if there's even a tie—because once the voting stops, the other contenders are basically out of the running.
Because of that, our job as the people making the suggestions is simply to pitch our chosen album as best we can. We want to give fellow members—whether they're super active or just lurking in the background—enough interesting details to spark their curiosity. If someone finds a bit of themselves in those notes, they might go off and do their own digging, which is great! But honestly, that shouldn't be the sole purpose of this thread. This space should really be about a free-flowing exchange of ideas regarding all the candidates on the table.

Actually, I think we should have expanded this scope to include EPs and 7" or 12" singles from the jump. Think about it: there are countless artists from the late 70s onwards who had brief careers and maybe only ever dropped one specific single. Sometimes, one of those obscure releases carries way more weight and cultural value than an entire mainstream discography... and those are exactly the kinds of gems we should be showcasing to the community.

On another note, I’m genuinely stumped by why there’s such a constant delay in presenting the "Album of the Week" after the votes are actually in.
If someone puts an album forward, they should probably stick around to see how the voting shakes out. If their pick ends up winning the most votes, they ought to step up and present it immediately after the poll closes. That way, everyone else can jump in and share their thoughts if they feel like it.
