wiredmason61 said:God, it was a nightmare for those of us still out there, so I can only imagine what the downtown area felt like. I really hope the structural integrity of the wall didn't take a massive hit. Hang in there! 🙂

This too shall pass, provided we can all just keep our heads on straight. 🙂

np iggy the man ...

It's honestly hard to tell if it’s just some superficial plaster damage or if there's actual structural cracking deep inside. I'm waiting on the inspector to weigh in before we know for sure.
Honestly, screw it—I have some savings set aside, so let the devil take it. 😬 It's the same for me as it is for everyone else.
Regardless, it was terrifying; it truly looked like my apartment was about to split right down the middle, and I had already mentally said my final goodbyes. 🙄 🤦

Once I realized I had actually survived, I told myself, "Come on, you little disaster, everything is fine"—from this moment on, I am officially not some James Bond-style secret agent 😁 #thankyouamerica : rozi: <3

whatever, screw it. I’ve got some savings tucked away, so let the devil take it. 😬 same as everyone else, honestly.
anyway, it was nasty. looked like my apartment was literally gonna split in two and I already said my goodbyes to the world. 🙄 🤦

since I actually survived, I told myself, alright kid, you’re fine—from here on out, you're officially not some damn James Bond secret agent😁 #thanksNYC : rosy: <3

Jamie Davis9, I’m so sorry you had to go through all that—it sounds intense. Things were way calmer over here; nothing more than a broken glass or two, though I probably would've just slept right through it if my neighbors hadn't woken me up to scramble into the car 😁
Hopefully, we're in the clear for at least the next century!

There’s plenty of heavy, depressing music out there—some of it is legit, some of it is just an act. But honestly, nothing I’ve ever heard hits quite like this one... it just swallows you whole with pure hopelessness. It captures that total mental and physical breakdown of its creator so perfectly:

I hope the damage isn't too bad. I'm sorry this happened to you. 🙂

Though, you are a mess, so I don't know why I'm even worrying about you. 😛

Angelenos, I hope you're all doing well. 🙂

Can you hear the rhythm? That’s Bill Rieflin on the drums, and I just heard the news that he passed away... He was absolutely crushing it for Annihilator up there now... R. I. P.

Thirty-one minutes of pure bliss—that St. Stephen/The Eleven/Turn on Your Love light medley from the legendary Live/dead era. This captures the Grateful Dead right at the start of that massive upward climb in early '69 that basically carried them all the way through '78.

The only time they really fused The Eleven/Turn on Your Love light into one seamless unit was during that San Francisco set at the Avalon Ballroom on January 26, 1969.
That transition between tracks is easily the most effective thing I've ever heard—I think it hits right around the 15:45 mark on this recording—and honestly, pigpenov’s lead vocals on this 15-minute version of Turn on Your Love light might just be the best blues anyone white has ever tackled.

I really hope we don't have to deal with this again for at least another hundred years.

Then again, you're from Florida, so I suppose I shouldn't be too worried about you. 😛

Angelenos, I hope you're all doing okay. 🙂

To give you an idea, the biggest casualty in the whole building was actually my wall, since I'm up in the penthouse. Fortunately, it isn't a load-bearing wall—just the partition between my place and the neighbor's attic—but it'll likely need to be torn down and rebuilt, though I can worry about that later. I'll handle whatever needs handling.
As far as I can see, the damage on my end is just some peeling plaster, but his side has some serious cracks.
The main thing is that there doesn't seem to be any visible damage elsewhere on the building, and the roof looks solid.
We're still waiting on the official inspectors, but I suspect their report will say pretty much the same thing.
So, that's the situation.
On another note, the local elementary school didn't fare well, at least from what I managed to see. I'm not sure if they'll even be able to reopen.

Folks, I just walked over to the corner bodega, and the city is eerily empty. It feels like a ghost town.

With that said,
Not much to live for here 🙄

That sounds great😉😁

Think of it as a chance to expand your living space. Who cares about the neighbor's attic when you could use an extra room?😉

😁

Up in that neighbor's attic, inside some sort of cage, there are these pigeons—special white ones, I think. I can't recall the specific breed, but apparently, they're bred for something particular. Every once in a while, I'd step in to feed them whenever he would head out of town for a couple of days to visit his brother.
I have absolutely no intention of ending up like those birds. 🙂

Just give me way, way up

😁 Thank god it wasn't a load-bearing wall, otherwise we'd be screwed...

To be honest, my wall took the biggest hit in the entire building. I’m up in the penthouse, so luckily it isn't a load-bearing wall—just a partition between my unit and the neighbor's attic space. It’s likely going to have to come down so we can rebuild it from scratch, but I'll deal with that headache when it comes.
As far as I can tell, it’s all just white noise on my end, but he seems to be falling apart.
It’s critical that we don't see any visible damage anywhere else on the building, and the roof needs to be structurally sound, too.
We’re still waiting on the official appraisers to weigh in, but honestly, I’m betting their numbers will land right around the same spot.
That's it.
On the other hand, that little training program was a total disaster, at least from everything I managed to see. Honestly, I’m not sure they can ever recover from this one.

Folks, I just headed down to the local corner store, and honestly? The streets are eerily empty. It feels like a total madhouse out there.

In his name,
A little bit of life. 🙄

I'm just relieved it wasn't any more serious than it was.

I was at every single one of his shows back in Sarajevo. Now, I'll just have a shot of something spicy and lean into the melancholy. 😍
Maybe it helps as a preventative measure. The only downside would be accidentally catching the bug and becoming an alcoholic. 😁

Keeping the same rhythm.

@ Steven Newman50: Any clue how I can shrink the font in my signature? It won't let me through the settings (says BB Code Size not allowed). Got any insider moderator tips for me?

Man, that's just pure beauty—straight up perfection.

Man, nostalgia is hitting me hard right now—it’s actually heavy. So, here's a little trip down memory lane: a track from Bird, one from The Shins, and one from Belle and Sebastian. I still remember playing them back-to-back during an indie-pop set on the radio back in 2010 or 2011.

I honestly can't get enough of this track—it’s just pure magic from start to finish. Such a vibe.
I can't believe this video just dropped—absolute perfection. It’s basically everything I wanted to hear right now.
That track is just—wow. Pure magic. Truly one of those rare moments where everything just clicks perfectly.
