love Saturdays 😁

Tried quoting you guys, but the site glitched and pulled everything from my last post too, so I just nuked it. 😬 She’s got killer taste in Muse!

José González was my go-to this morning. 🙂 And all this talk about the apocalypse?! We’ve got issues right here—maybe calm down, think about the most vulnerable people out there, and actually be socially responsible for once. Don't panic (D.A.). 😉

Check out Urochromes - Trope House ...

Had to break up my seven-day marathon with something this hyper-emotional and just... breathtakingly beautiful. Might be the best track from maybe the best album of 1998—easily one of the greatest singer-songwriters of the whole decade.
This song is basically how I want to sound when I'm totally broke.

Nothing weaker than this genius opening track from the same incredible Car Wheels on A Gravel Road album.
I don't often feel this much empathy for someone else's heartbreak—but man, hearing them belt out that chorus about 12 or 13 years ago really hit me right in the chest.

Back when I was running my show on college radio—mostly spinning indie, folk-rock, and singer-songwriter stuff—I loved digging up those super niche, introverted tracks that most students wouldn't touch. Usually it was all new stuff, though I’d always squeeze in a classic or two if it fit the vibe.
One of those gems was this track right here... honestly, even now, ten years later, I still get chills whenever I hear this version roll out over the airwaves.

When you're talking about classic singer-songwriters, people often forget that we had some legends right here in the States who could go toe-to-toe with anyone—and besides Arsen, Tomaž Pengov was probably the absolute king of them all.
His 1973 LP Odpotovanje is honestly on par with the greatest singer-songwriter records ever made, and I’d say the absolute peak of his work is this stunning track:

Underappreciated American country-rock pro Jackie Greene hit his absolute peak back in '06 with that killer American Myth album—this track is just a stellar, ten-minute Dylan-esque lament.

Personally, I’d say Big Thief dropped the best album of last year—it’s called UFOF. Their second one, Two Hands, was okay but definitely weaker. This record is their most pastoral, most inward-looking stuff yet... which is why I'm pulling these two tracks—the title track, which is easily song of the year, and that super sweet, stripped-back Orange.

I tried to quote you all, but the formatting spiraled into quoting every single thing since my last post, so I just deleted it. 😬 they have such great Muse tracks!

José González is my absolute favorite this morning. 🙂 And as for the post-apocalypse?! We actually have resources—let’s try to find some peace, think about the most vulnerable members of our society, and act with some social responsibility. don't panic (d.a.) 😉

np urochromes - trope house ...

exactly right.
Besides, Albert Camus didn't just write The Plague on a whim after finishing The Stranger; 😛, we know that the plague serves as an anthem for human solidarity and resistance. 🧐 😁

And that is precisely why one must celebrate life at every possible opportunity, really!

It’s kind of like how the Renaissance was basically a massive reaction to the Black Death.

That is precisely the case.

Speaking of the Renaissance, I have spent several grueling hours today prepping for remote teaching, and frankly, I am absolutely losing my mind at this point. 😁
So now I am attempting to unwind with some jazz and a little downtime; I also treated myself to some new Bluetooth headphones, which were admittedly a bit pricey, but they are honestly incredible. :_)))

Please excuse me in advance for this little outburst 🙏 😁

They talked about The Plague, but it wasn't required reading (back in my day 🧐). you really see what human solidarity looks like when you're hit by a massive allergy attack. 🙂 hope nobody knocks you out with something heavy.

and that's precisely why you gotta celebrate life at every single chance you get, right?

hehe, oh yeah, totally 😁

It felt pretty plain and forgettable at first—until I realized that’s actually why I love it. It’s just so calming, simple, and deep all at once. 😁

Steely Dan is such a massive, criminally underrated band—they just crushed it from their killer debut, Can't Buy a Thrill, all the way through to AJ in '77. Honestly, they barely missed a beat.
From their second record, Countdown to Ecstasy (1973), there's this closing track that's probably my absolute favorite of theirs—nothing beats King of the World:
