So, I've run into a bit of a snag. I can't tell if I'm dealing with a faulty PSU or if I just botched the installation.
Basically, I have an older PC that actually runs quite well. The only issue was my old power supply (EVGA 500 W) started making these loud noises, so I decided to swap it out for an EVGA 500 W unit.
Once I hooked up the new one, I hit a wall: the computer turns on, then immediately shuts down within a second, tries to reboot, and then pops up this message: 'Corsair Surge was triggered to protect system from unstable power supply'.
If I select the option to boot into macOS using the 'default values,' everything seems fine. I even had it running non-stop for four days once without any issues or sudden restarts.
However, I noticed one weird thing: every other time I boot up, my USB 3.0 card fails to work—it just doesn't seem to get enough juice to power my USB devices. If I restart the computer, the card works perfectly again. I even tried swapping it for a different USB 3.0 card that doesn't even require a dedicated power connector, but the result is exactly the same. The anti-surge always triggers, and sometimes the card stays dead.
Any ideas on what's going on here? Did I wire something incorrectly, is the PSU defective, or is the Dell Corsair Surge just being overly sensitive?
