Nicole Johnson20 said:Alright, could you perhaps clarify what exactly you consider to be quackery? Because someone once pointed out that if we follow that logic, suggesting a cup of chamomile tea instead of an aspirin for a headache would also count as quackery. How are we supposed to draw a line there?
It seems to me that you're trying to de-escalate things on this subforum, attempting to find some common ground so we can settle down and stop the rule-breaking.
I actually welcome that initiative; I think it’s quite a good idea, especially while we're without a moderator. 🙂
However, I suspect matters are actually quite straightforward, and
the real issue lies solely in the violation of the rules. If we had active moderation, these issues wouldn't even exist.
Since we don't know how much longer the moderator will be away, if we truly want to stabilize the situation, everyone should just agree to stick to the forum and subforum guidelines—so, again, I think your proposal is excellent. 👍
Let's look at an extreme scenario: suppose everyone stops posting any links regarding cures and simply leaves sick people to fend for themselves. If anyone asks for advice regarding an illness, we’d just tell them we can't help because anything outside of conventional medicine is considered quackery, and they'll have to figure it out on their own.
In that case, the Alternative subforum would basically just be a hollow shell, existing in name only. 😵
Would that bring peace to the board? You have three guesses. ☕
Furthermore, the real issue isn't really about sharing online anecdotes that have nothing to do with quackery—even if they did and even if they were potentially dangerous—
because the Department of Health would have stepped in long ago to block such sites or restrict access to them. 🤷
For instance, GNU wrote about
personal experiences of loved ones who recovered through alternative means, and he was absolutely torn apart for it. He didn't even post a link.
At the end of the day, I haven't posted a single link to a cure or anything remotely similar
in over a month (around here), yet every single one of my posts during that month has been met with vitriol. I keep receiving these nasty insults from a small group of people who clearly have made it their mission to target me.
So, why is that happening? Is it because of agave syrup or some blended concoction that I didn't even consume?
Does that actually put anyone's life at risk?
No, so that certainly isn't the reason.
The reason is simply that they don't want these types of discussions to exist. Of course, given those intentions,
I don't think there are two possible reasons anymore; there's really only one. But, to wrap this up, I'll share something quite interesting and undeniable that might make everyone pause for a moment:
Back when we had moderation, even the former moderator BAT Kol—who is a physician by trade and was an outspoken opponent of the Alternative section, and with whom I had a rather strained relationship—never once gave me a warning, let alone a strike, for a single link I shared regarding a cure, nor for anyone else.Feel free to check the logs. ☕
He voiced his disagreement, sure; sometimes we'd get into a debate where he presented his arguments and I presented mine. Occasionally, we'd even see eye-to-eye. Most often, we didn't, and we'd just move on.
But I have NEVER even received a warning, nor has a single one of those posts ever been deleted—and I’ve written hundreds of them! So, regarding whether those kinds of links actually violate any rules or laws.
They don't break anything; if anything, they are the most relevant, on-topic content you could find on this subforum, especially within the Raw Food thread where most of them are shared..
In fact, the original creators specifically designed the thread to encourage discussions about healing journeys and personal experiences with raw food. (just look at
the opening post)..
I suppose all of this just highlights the mindless, repetitive chatter about "quackery." It feels more like a deliberate attempt to degrade the topic until people feel it's only acceptable to say something like, "Well, maybe eating an apple after a burger isn't a bad idea once in a while." 🤦.
Then, presumably, that wouldn't offend anyone... 🤦.
