As long as they're bright—it's the presvetao Cup, after all.

What are you losers even playing at? You managed to guess two out of the first three? Big deal—both Ferrari and darkmarlin16, along with a few others, nailed that top three. Your track record is pretty weak, and the standings don't lie. So just stfu.

doesn't matter to me—I'm stuck in the same spot regardless of which ranking you look at😁

Excuse me? How can you say people "guessed the top three" when everyone was busy calling Sebastian Vettel the winner? Are you guys insane? Calling that an accurate prediction is a joke.

Predicting by groups—like saying someone finished in the top three—is total, absolute garbage.

And frankly, I couldn't care less if someone guessed 14th. Who cares if it's Max Chilton or Charles PIC? Who even is Max Chilton? Nobody gives a damn who finishes 14th.

Look, if Vettel takes first or third—now *that's* a big deal. Same if Kimi Räikkönen lands first or third. That matters. Not some 14th-place nonsense.

Plus, even if you nail the exact position, you only get 20% of what someone gets for just guessing the group.

Take someone who predicts

1. Sebastian Vettel
2. Kimi Räikkönen
3. Fernando Alonso

They walk away with 15 points based on that.

But then the guy who predicts

1. Kimi Räikkönen
2. Romain Grosjean
3. Sebastian Vettel

gets 12 points for his effort.

You don't even need a brain to see who actually made the better call here.

Seems to me that's the one thing this whole system is missing—common sense.

Of course, those old-school relic types won't accept any changes or better solutions.

It's because they've been indoctrinated since grade school, taught from day one that the establishment is sacred and you never, ever question the status quo. They were raised to believe the system is holy and untouchable.

Well, newsflash: it isn't. Every system can be changed, and you can criticize any system because we aren't living under a regime anymore—we live in freedom. We're free to speak our minds, hold our own views, and demand better ways of doing things.

Joe, hands down, the best scoring system is Matthew Young35's original method😁 you know, that thing people call "Matthew's rule" or whatever...
The only catch is that the math is a pain, and nobody actually wants to sit there crunching numbers because it takes forever...

Basically, the system works by looking at the gap between where you predicted a driver would finish versus where they actually landed...
So, if you miss by 3 spots, you get 3 points; miss by 10, you get 10 points... and so on for every single driver.
The winner is whoever ends up with the lowest score, and the loser is the one with the most.

Honestly, it’s the perfect system. You won't find anything better or more fair than this.☕
The only issue is that half the players can't handle it, and then they spend the next six months whining about how someone jumped them in the standings.🤣

I put together a little program to calculate points based on my own custom system, and I even ran it through a single race to see how the standings would shake out.
If my memory serves me right, calculating the full standings took me about 15 to 20 minutes.

Alright then, go ahead—run the numbers through your system and post them here. I'm dying to see how much they differ. In my system, the gaps are absolutely massive.

Look, as the guy who actually started this whole championship, I’ve officially signed off on this points system and honestly? It’s the absolute best way to do it.
If anyone’s got a problem with it, they can just go play something else.

Heh, if I could actually track down that program, I might actually bother.
Who knows which corner of some old hard drive it vanished into?

Let's be reasonable here...
We aren't going to overhaul the entire scoring system mid-season; making drastic changes while the season is already underway would be completely pointless. However, we can certainly discuss a new system for next year. Furthermore, I don't see any harm in someone keeping track of points using an alternative system in parallel; it might actually help us visualize the potential impact of rule changes down the road. At the end of the day, nothing is set in stone, and whatever the majority decides will be the path we take. As for you being the founder... 🤷

I am in complete agreement with this scoring structure, as I believe it introduces a much higher level of fairness to the competition.
As the season unfolds, I am confident that most observers will come to realize just how much more equitable and superior this system truly is; furthermore, I have no doubt that winning the presvetao Cup will carry far greater prestige and weight by the end of the year than simply claiming the championship title itself.

And why didn't you even finish your sentence?... 😬

Honestly, I have zero clue what kind of setup darkmarlin16 used to kick off this whole race prediction game on this subforum...😕
As far as I can tell (and trust me, I know😁), some of the regulars here have been calling these results since back in 2003 or 2004 right here on this same board... so I really don't get how or why he even started it up.😁

Take this guy for example—he’s one of those old-school veterans.😁
There are plenty more like him...😁
In fact, if my memory serves me right, we're actually hitting the ten-year mark for the first round in just a few days.😍

Common sense tells us this matters more because of the case of beer at stake, but this scoring doesn't really align with the overall forecast.
If we've got five top teams, then under this rule, it feels like only they'll even sniff the top 10, making everyone else's results basically irrelevant.
But everyone counts—just look at what happened with Jules Bianchi—which is exactly why this scoring is the fairer way to go.

Regarding Matthew Young35's scoring method, it might actually be the most fair approach if we look at it through the lens of what ruggedhawk20 is suggesting. When I calculate the results, I always stick to Matthew Young35's system because it’s officially part of the current regulations, so there's really no issue there.
The current system should be played strictly by the rules as they are defined, not some improvised version of them! What frustrates me most is that this debate is dragging on months late—it’s ridiculous that the participants didn't engage with this when it was actually happening.
That said, under the existing rules, anything can technically be changed mid-season, though I wouldn't recommend messing with the points system while the race is still running.

Man, William Bennett53, that’s just how it goes...
We all know the drill. As soon as those first results drop, everyone starts nitpicking the rulebook again.😁

Of course, changing the scoring system in the middle of a competition is completely off the table.

By the way, that was a clever little hook.
