Terry Carter2 said:Regarding Matthew Young35's scoring method, it might actually be the most fair approach if we look at it through the lens of what ruggedhawk20 is suggesting. When I calculate the results, I always stick to Matthew Young35's system because it’s officially part of the current regulations, so there's really no issue there.
The current system should be played strictly by the rules as they are defined, not some improvised version of them! What frustrates me most is that this debate is dragging on months late—it’s ridiculous that the participants didn't engage with this when it was actually happening.
That said, under the existing rules, anything can technically be changed mid-season, though I wouldn't recommend messing with the points system while the race is still running.
😁

I’d happily weigh in if I hadn't been tossed into digital exile—basically stuck on a deserted island of a subforum for a year and a half now.

And now, apparently, certain people would love nothing more than to see me back in action.

Hold on a second, are you actually telling me that you're someone's clone?

Instead of just adding a single point for hitting a specific position, it would make more sense to use a multiplier—say x2—to actually reflect how much weight that position carries 🙂

especially since we all know who really runs this championship 😁

Good grief! That is an even worse scenario if you actually think you’re just some clone of a user who got permanently banned.

God help us. I seriously haven't stepped foot on this forum once in my life before December 2012. I didn't even know this place existed. I got permanently banned over at that big US message board back in the day, and then I drifted over here in late 2012. Some guy named Gustav banned me there because I was writing communist manifestos and calling for a revolution against the moderator elite. That's where the ban happened. As for this site? I've never been here in my entire life. I didn't even know it was a thing.

I got banned from Trackforum, MotorTrend, CycleWorld, Autosport, SpeedTV, and even NASCAR.com—but never here. This is my first time ever.

Great, I was already thinking that....!

But seriously, why don't you suggest a compromise regarding the championship points system? Something that actually accounts for the entire grid instead of just awarding points to specific finishing positions. I’m looking for a more creative proposal here! I know you can do better than what you've already put forward. I'm certain of it!

Because honestly, nobody cares who finishes 14th—and frankly, I care about Max, Chilton, and Charles about as much as someone cares about black dirt under their fingernails after a circular saw accident.

That's why we shouldn't waste any energy on Chilton and his crew. I'm all about the winners.

Me? Yes, it's all about me! Just try applying some actual logic to the rest of the field in this championship. We can't just draft up rules based on how many participants we have just to make sure everyone gets a participation trophy and stays happy!
You're acting like a toddler: "If things don't go my way, I'm going home, and you can all play by yourselves!"—and before you even leave, you kick the table over and smash the whole game to pieces!
On every other thread, you've acted like you're the smartest person in the room. So... you really have no excuse here!

Look, I'm a systematic guy. Right now, we have the "Championship" and then we have the "Presvetli Cup" as an alternative. This "Presvetli Cup" is basically a prototype to see how a scoring system like 25-18-15-12-10 etc. performs compared to our current setup. We'll compare the two extremes and find a middle ground by the end of the season. For now, we're just testing it out.

Alright, let's give it a shot. But I’m telling you right now, this scoring system of yours feels way too much like that accuracy trophy they’re only tallying up for the championship this year!

Listen, everyone, here is how we are going to handle this: Joe’s Cup will continue for the foreseeable future.
The reasons behind this have already been laid out, but they can be summarized quite simply: this isn't actually a "new" competition in any meaningful sense. It doesn't demand extra effort from the players, nor does it change the roster or the gameplay mechanics used in the championship. The outcome of Joe's Cup will merely serve as an alternative way to tally points, much like how the tocan trophy functioned previously.

However, to prevent any potential abuse of this thread or any unwanted tangents, this topic will now be used exclusively for publishing alternative standings and—should Joe (or anyone else) feel the need—providing general commentary on the results once the race is over.

To ensure this stays organized, I am closing the thread now and clearing out everything that isn't a result announcement (those posts will be moved over here). Once the race concludes and the math is finished, Joe will reach out to Terry Carter2 or myself to have us reopen the thread for the official results and any subsequent commentary.

That's a lot of blue text! Stop being so dramatic and just write normally. 🙂

Joe, why wasn't I included in your cup?

Regarding the championship—is it possible for members of the same team to submit the same prediction? It seems logical to me that they could; if there aren't any formal complaints, then there shouldn't be any issues with collusion.

Just like whenever there’s a bit of favoritism at play, I wanted to make sure this was eye-catching. 😁

What exactly does Joe have to gain from the Cup if he failed to submit his forecast on time? Look, if the whole point of the Cup is for him to suggest an alternative scoring system, then fine, let’s go with that. But if he starts deviating from the rest of the established rules, then the whole thing loses its connection to the championship and fails its primary purpose.

Max was credited with 0 (0) points, while I didn't even get 😢

Aren't you supposed to be interpreting the rulebook rather than just copying it?

I am starving 😢 😢

I wouldn't say that; I believe that falls squarely within Terry Carter2's area of expertise. 👍

It’s simply against the PDF rules!

What’s even the point of having teams if teammates can't coordinate—or more importantly—develop a shared, cohesive strategy?

And what on earth are these "PDF rules" supposed to be? It feels like we're long overdue for a change in game modes. 🙂

If everyone would just coordinate their strategies and stick to the established rules of engagement, we wouldn't have half these problems. It’s simple: play within the framework, align your tactics, and everything would run smoothly.

I think I’ll just copy Pat's next forecast—according to the rules, she has to lodge a complaint first for me to even face a penalty. If she doesn't complain, then there's no penalty, I guess.🙂
