stormybadger8 said:Old news here... the standard explanation has always been that the deadline has to hit before Free Practice 3 kicks off.
Personally, I don't see much point to it either,🤷
but hey, it is what it is.

Does anyone actually participating in this discussion play the game? As far as I can recall, it ended up this way simply because it suited Seth!

Personally, I’d set the deadline for Sunday, an hour before the race. Or, if we're being strict, an hour before qualifying!

In my view, the most logical approach would be to set the deadline either right at the scheduled start of the third practice session or just before qualifying begins—perhaps no later than ten minutes prior to the green flag.

Look, those were the two windows we've used up until now...
Basically, at 3:00, it’s three sessions before the actual practice starts.
But hey, maybe Max heads into work at 3:00, or Seth rolls in straight from a local happy hour, so there you go—it ended up being 3:00.🤣
I can't quite remember who actually came up with that idea, but I know most people were on board with it...

Personally, I find it way more engaging to set our predictions before the third practice session starts.
Usually, teams stick to their own private testing programs during those first two sessions and don't really show their hand.
By the time Saturday's practice rolls around, the cards are mostly on the table, and you get a much clearer picture
of how fast each car actually is for the upcoming race.
Trying to call it based on the current rules feels unnecessarily difficult if you ask me.
If we had a deadline just 10 minutes before qualifying begins, I’m convinced our accuracy rate would jump to at least 80%.
And for those predicting the top 10? It would probably be even higher than that.

That specific slot was chosen as a middle ground, balancing the deadline right before the third practice session against having one universal time slot for every race throughout the entire season.

What are the specific rules regarding direct quotes? Could someone please copy and paste a section from the bylaws here—I don't mean to be rude, but I'm a bit pressed for time right now and haven't had a chance to dig through them myself.

Rule 12 states that copying someone else's prediction is strictly prohibited. This is investigated and penalized only if a player files a formal complaint once the deadline for posting predictions on this thread has passed. Copying is defined as matching more than 75% of the drivers—including all groups (rounded up to the nearest whole number)—to the exact same positions as a previously posted prediction for that specific race (note that older predictions used as jokers do not count toward this total). If you are caught copying, your prediction will simply be invalidated.

I didn't even film this myself🤣

Seems like a pretty decent fix, though...
But I'm lost on the deadline for appeals.
Is it before the next race starts, or what? I'm assuming they don't want people filing late protests long after the fact—it would be a nightmare trying to fix the results later on.

I intentionally didn't set a hard deadline so nobody could use it as an excuse to stall!
Let's just say the window for appeals will be based on my own reasonable judgment regarding how long it takes to technically adjust the standings.
Frankly, I'm hoping it doesn't even come to that!

My favorite setup was when the cutoff was 10 minutes before qualifying. Honestly, I wouldn't mind if it were 10 minutes before FP3 either, but having it right at the start of the third session never really worked for me.😁

I know there was one year where I spent half the night arguing about this deadline with Max and a few others, but I guess I lost that round.🙂

Come on, just move the deadline back to 10 minutes before FP3.🙏 That way we actually have a chance to wake up and get our predictions in, especially if we get crushed at home a few hours earlier and end up zaspati yebati.😁 It’s a practical benefit, and I don't see any reason why the window needs to be any shorter.😁

redheron12 said:Is the deadline for submitting predictions really Saturday at 3 AM? Or rather, late Friday night? It feels a bit silly—I mean, wouldn't it make more sense to have the cutoff by Saturday at 1 PM, just an hour before qualifying starts?

Qual is actually on Saturday at 7 AM, not 1 PM.😁

Anyway, I guess it’s great that you did such thorough research on the rules, but you still haven't actually submitted your prediction.🙏 🙏 🤣

I totally passed out—just completely conked out. I ended up crashing right on the living room floor—computer running, TV on, lights blazing. I was stone-cold sober, just absolutely exhausted.

Yeah, me too, redheron12. 🙂 He spent weeks badgering me to actually play the championship, and then he pulls this crap. 😠

I was the one who talked you into this.🙂🤣
Here I am, dropping two different predictions, while redheron12 hasn't managed to get a single one right. 😛🤣

Yeah, tell me about it...

I actually sent you two texts around midnight just to remind you to get your predictions in 🙄

Then I found myself refreshing the page at 2:59 because I was pretty sure you and Max would show up at the very last second... and then I was genuinely annoyed when nothing happened by 3.01 🤣

3.01 Anyway, what a great start to the season 😛

MAX really caught me off guard here 🙂

And then he actually had the nerve to tell me I should give him an technical forecast.

Yeah, redheron12 did the same to me. 🙂 He spent weeks trying to convince me to even play the season, and then he pulls something like this. 😠

Well, you certainly have a track record, don't you? Last year, Speedie failed to send out even half the forecasts, and now Max has gone and completely messed things up—something you'd never expect from him. Not to mention how she totally blindsided you when you were just trying to start the thread...🙂

Idea, actually a few ideas😁

1. Introducing qualifying sessions😁
Since we’ve got a massive crowd of players but aren't running a full tournament, what do you guys think about adding qualifying rounds before the race?😁
- Set the qualifying predictions 10 minutes before Free Practice 3 starts.
- Let's set a cutoff, say 50%.😁
Anyone scoring less than 50% compared to the qualifying winner gets a DNF, which basically means they don't start the race.😁

If we go this route, we’d also need to shift the deadline for race predictions...
- Race predictions would be due no later than 10 minutes before qualifying begins.

2. The scoring system...
Then there's the points. We could stick to the current system for overall results, but tweak it so the top three get a different payout:

1st-3rd place gets 5 points.
4th-10th place gets 3 points.
Everything else stays the same...
But, if you nail the exact position:
1st - 25 points
2nd - 18 points
3rd - 15 points

4th - 12 points
5th - 10 points
6th - 8 points
7th - 6 points
8th - 4 points
9th-10th - 3 points + 1 bonus point.

Honestly, this looks pretty decent to me. Might actually be a fairer way to do things.🤔
