stormybadger8 said:Idea, actually a few ideas😁

1. Introducing qualifying sessions😁
Since we’ve got a massive crowd of players but aren't running a full tournament, what do you guys think about adding qualifying rounds before the race?😁
- Set the qualifying predictions 10 minutes before Free Practice 3 starts.
- Let's set a cutoff, say 50%.😁
Anyone scoring less than 50% compared to the qualifying winner gets a DNF, which basically means they don't start the race.😁

If we go this route, we’d also need to shift the deadline for race predictions...
- Race predictions would be due no later than 10 minutes before qualifying begins.

2. The scoring system...
Then there's the points. We could stick to the current system for overall results, but tweak it so the top three get a different payout:

1st-3rd place gets 5 points.
4th-10th place gets 3 points.
Everything else stays the same...
But, if you nail the exact position:
1st - 25 points
2nd - 18 points
3rd - 15 points

4th - 12 points
5th - 10 points
6th - 8 points
7th - 6 points
8th - 4 points
9th-10th - 3 points + 1 bonus point.

Honestly, this looks pretty decent to me. Might actually be a fairer way to do things.🤔

Even as the moderator, I find the current setup overwhelming, especially now that our numbers have swelled so much!

2. A revised scoring system...
Now, regarding the points: we could keep the existing system for general results, but modify it so the top three finishers are weighted differently:

Positions 1-3 earn 5 points
Positions 4-10 earn 3 points
Everything else remains as it is currently...
However, for those who nail the exact position:
1st - 25 points
2nd - 18 points
3rd - 15 points

4th - 12 points
5th - 10 points
6th - 8 points
7th - 6 points
8th - 4 points
9th-10th - 3 points plus an extra bonus point.

To me, this actually looks like a solid system, and perhaps even a fairer one.🤔

This is certainly worth some serious discussion!

I find myself quite agreeing with the proposed changes to the points system. 👍

Sadly, nobody here actually values calling exact positions. Even worse, I tried pitching a whole new system this summer that rewards precision instead of this stupid 'grouping' nonsense, but it got shot down.

I say we just set it up like this

If you nail first place, you get 25 points, second gets 18, third gets 15, and so on—12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1—basically standard F1 scoring plus an extra 2 points for pole and fastest lap.

Then you tally everything up and rank everyone using that same 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1 scale.

AMEN!

It doesn't get any simpler than that.

And honestly, I have zero clue what this grouping thing is or who even came up with it. How can someone who guessed Vettel as the winner be winning, while you—who called the actual winner and someone else ten spots down—get nothing? Meanwhile, I call the winner and third place and don't even score? This system is absolute trash. Just terrible. I seriously don't get what they're even measuring. Probably just randomness. Whoever guesses more random stuff wins.

Rules were put to a vote, and these were the ones chosen.🙂

Where were you guys when the shooting started?🧐

If you want to write the rules, do it next year and run for office. For now, just let the legitimately elected commissioner run the championship.

Besides, this system is actually pretty solid because it encourages people to follow everything happening instead of just focusing on the top 3 or 4 teams. Even though I used to think you shouldn't bother predicting anything past 10th place, I'm starting to realize this way is actually better.👍

So, basically you're saying all that matters is nailing the top 10, and anything else isn't even worth a shot at predicting? 🤷

These are half-baked rules that bear zero resemblance to the actual championship; there is absolutely no reason to even compare them.
It feels more like a "closest guess" trophy than a real league!

The more I read through these various proposals, the more I find myself favoring the current scoring system.
The bottom line is that the participation (the predicting part) should adapt to the established rules (which, frankly, most people haven't even bothered to read, let alone understand), rather than trying to bend the rules to fit how people participate!

Exactly. There’s zero point in trying to predict anything—just play the championship normally and I'll grab the results from there. No real "game" happening here. It all just comes down to that alternative scoring system and the fact that I'm the one footing the bill for the prize.🙂🙂

Man, there's zero competition happening here.

Look, I’ve finally cracked the code. Thank God we live in a country with free speech—if someone’s actually unhappy with how things work, they can just come up with their own solution and pitch it to everyone. Simple as that.

So now we’ve got this alternative scoring method, the "Super Bowl," and we’ll just wait and see how massive the gap ends up being between the Super Bowl standings and the actual Championship rankings.

Same predictions, just two different ways to count points. We're already seeing huge gaps after just one round.

You clearly didn't read carefully, kid.

ruggedhawk20 said:Super Bowl

Look, I’m the kind of guy who can't stand injustice—once I get fired up, things get messy. You all know I think the current points system is absolute garbage. So, to stop myself from losing my mind and actually staying sane, I’ve decided to launch the "Super Bowl." Just a heads-up: you don't need to participate; this is my own private thing. I’m just going to take the actual championship results and score them using my own system. We aren't running two different competitions here—it's just one—except I'm the one handing out the prizes. At the end of the season, I’m buying a six-pack of beer for whoever wins the "Super Bowl." And seriously, don't bother posting your own predictions here—this isn't a separate contest. I'll just grab the official results and score them my way, fairly: 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1. Basically, if you nail first place, you get 25, second gets 18, and so on.

Also, hey mods—if you delete this, shut it down, or try to block it somehow, you're clearly out of your minds. I’m literally offering a six-pack of beer to the winner, so it wouldn't be fair to ban it.

And just so we're clear, if my kid wins, he gets a pack of apricot juice since he's a minor. Everything is totally legal, and I don't see any reason why the "Super Bowl" can't happen.

Anyway, let's see how everyone did after round one.

Official score:
1. Kimi Räikkönen
2. Fernando Alonso
3. Sebastian Vettel
4. Felipe Massa
5. Lewis Hamilton
6. Mark Webber
7. Adrian Sutil
8. Paul di Resta
9. Jenson Button
10. Romain Grosjean
11. Sergio Perez
12. Jean-Eric Vergne
13. Esteban Gutierrez
14. Valtteri Bottas
15. Jules Bianchi
16. Charles PIC
17. Max Chilton
18. Giedo van der Garda
DNF Daniel Ricciardo
DNF Nico Rosberg
DNF Pastor Maldonado
DNF Nico Hulkenberg
Pit Stop Sebastian Vettel
Fast Lap Kimi Räikkönen

Moderators, please delete this.

This isn't even on-topic regarding the 2013 Formula One Season, nor have any users confirmed if there's actually a sub-forum competition happening.

As far as my own personal take goes (though I haven't had a chance to run this by my colleague yet), Joe could easily spend the entire year tallying points using an alternative system. Much like those old trophies awarded for finishing in certain positions, this wouldn't demand any extra effort from the drivers themselves, so why not?

However, if Joe’s alternative scoring method is going to survive, it needs to be handled systematically and with actual seriousness; the whole topic shouldn't turn into a breeding ground for trolls and spam. If that happens, the project will simply have to be shut down.

Exactly! Finally, some common sense! Honestly, if you guys scrap this, I’m gonna be complaining non-stop in the championship thread—at least this gives me something fun to do to stay sane.

Regarding the trolls and their constant baiting, we've already got a few prime candidates for a ban. Personally, I think we should just hand out a couple of draconian red cards right at the start; then we can actually have some peace in the thread for the rest of the season.

If we let them get away with it now, they'll just keep coming back to stir up trouble forever.

Just starting this thread is pure trolling, if you ask me.🤷

Honestly, I’m only reading this because I can't stop laughing at how ridiculous this nonsense is.🤣

Fine, he can take that over to the Off-topic board.

Where would we be if everyone who disagreed with the official points system started their own thread to score drivers by their own rules?

We finally cleared out that mess of subforum competitions, only for a few people to start creating a new pile of clutter.
And look at the reasoning. It's not fair; I picked the winner but I didn't win myself. 🙂

You aren't even reading carefully—this isn't a competition. No one's making predictions here; it's just an alternative way of scoring!

Plus, I'm handing out prizes! And you want to scrap that too!? Give me a break.

Finally, the forum is actually seeing some life, and then here comes Pilatus with his toxic attitude to ruin everything and turn this place into a wasteland.

Clearly, you were raised on pure communism. There's really only one solution for you: condemn every single alternative idea to a gulag.
