Hey there,
I'm currently looking at options to finally replace my 13-year-old Athlon64 πŸ™‚

What are your thoughts on this setup? Or should I just stick with an 1150 socket build instead? I already have a monitor... and a 2.1 speaker system...

CPU: Intel Core i5-6400
Motherboard: H110M Soc.1151
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon R9 380
Memory: 8GB DDR4 2133 MHz
Hard Drive: 1TB HDD
Case: Cougar MX200 with Front USB 3.0
Optical Drive: SATA Dual Layer DVD-RW
Power Supply: Fortron 700W 80 Plus Bronze
Audio: 7.1 channel audio
Other: PCI-express, SATAIII, USB3.0, Gigabit LAN
OS: FreeDOS

PRICE $2167....listed on eBay

THX!

I honestly don't see the point in sticking with an 1150 socket when you could just go with the newer 1151. From what I can tell, you're looking at a pre-built setupβ€”just let me know what kind of budget we're working with, and we can actually put something together for you.

First off, what’s the primary purpose of this PC? Also, what kind of monitor are you running (what resolution)?

If you're just browsing the web, handling office tasks, or similar light workβ€”you don't need an expensive rig, especially one with a GPU costing over $2,000. If there's a specific professional workload involved, let me know.
If this is strictly for gamingβ€”just thinking out loud hereβ€”you could probably squeeze in an AMD Radeon R9 390 or a GTX 970. You might pair that with an Intel Core i5-4460, or if you go with an AMD FX-8300, it would definitely handle it. In that scenario, opting for a Skylake build wouldn't really be worth the investment.

Cougar MX200? What even is that? It sucks regardless. The Design is over five years old, plus it's got those 80/92mm fans? With the power supply sitting right on top? For that kind of money, I bet the chassis feels like thin sheet metalβ€”watch out, or it'll rattle and vibrate like you're riding a motorcycle. 😬

If you're just browsing the web, doing office work, and stuff like thatβ€”you definitely don't need a high-end rig, especially not a GPU that costs more than two grand. If there's some specific specialized work involved, let me know.

It's intended for work, but honestly, it's really for gaming... I guess I haven't been a πŸ™‚ gamer for very long... I have a 22" Samsung monitor... it's HD... it works for now...
Maybe I'd rather switch over to Intel; I've always used AMD, and my old Ryzen 5 lasted me a solid 12 years... but people say making the jump to Intel is the better move...
Budget? Let's say around $5,500....
Please, feel free to throw out some suggestions!!!!!!

What kind of work are we talking about here? Specifically, what software are you running?

Is $1833 actually correct, or am I looking at an error? That PC mentioned above is $2167.

Is $1833 actually a mistake? That PC mentioned above is definitely $2167.

Oh, nothing too intense... it's not like I'm doing heavy graphic design or anything πŸ™‚
I'll mostly just be using the computer for everyday stuff, you know, browsing the web, watching movies, and things like that...
And for me, playing games like Alien isolation, Call of Duty, and so on...

I might be overstepping a bit, but you can honestly find everything you need right here:

ASRock H81M-HDS R2 motherboard
Intel Core I5 4460 processor
Kingston DDR3 1600MHz, C11, 8GB, KVR16N11/8
XFX R9 390 8GB, XFX-R9-390P-8DF6
Toshiba DT01ACA100 1 TB 3.5
ZAL-ZM-Z1 Fortron mid tower case, black, USB 3.0, no PSU included, ZAL-ZM-Z1
Fortron Hyper 600 power supply
Patriot SSD Blaze R545/W430, 120GB, 7mm, 2.5" PB120GS25SSDR

$2209 Best Buy

Includes an SSD, an i5, and a killer graphics card. You could skip the SSD if you wanted to swap in a different GPU model with a longer warranty, though I don't think there's much point.

So, does this mean there's no Skylake available?

The jump from Haswell isn't really that noticeable... I guess you might hit 7k with the same setup if you were running on the Skylake platform.

for $133 differences?

But wait, if that's the case, then wouldn't this be perfectly fine?

So what, this one isn't good enough?

That PC has a graphics card that's half as powerful and doesn't even have an SSD. By what logic is that build considered a good deal? πŸ˜› Other than having a processor that's maybe 1.85% faster? 😬

Where on earth did you get 1.85%🀣 from?
