Navigating those metal barriers in a game of roulette, only three drivers managed to finish on the same lap as last year's winner; Fernando Alonso ended up in fourth, while the final driver completed the lap trailing the pack. Is it not true that Monaco perhaps serves as the ultimate distillation of everything Formula 1 stands for? It is elite sport, immense wealth, and pure glamour, all distilled into one weekend.

Furthermore, according to the most recent poll conducted here on this forum, it remains the most glamorous race on the planet.
Regardless of how difficult overtaking proves to be—and we know qualifying position matters more here than anywhere else—Monaco is Formula 1, and Formula 1 is Monaco. As Bernie Ecclestone once remarked, if massive shifts were ever to occur within the sport, this would likely be the sole race left on the Old Continent.

There is some rather transparent signaling happening over at Mercedes:

"How was Turn One?" Lewis Hamilton asks.

"Not sure I can comment on Turn One," responds his engineer Peter Bonnington.

"Okay, how is the weather?" Lewis Hamilton follows up.

"Weather looks good," comes the reply.

I get the logic regarding the race and qualifying, but does this penalty also apply to the unofficial practice sessions?

I missed the session, but why does the second driver seem to be lagging by almost a full second behind basically everyone else?

Tough one...
From what I gathered on LT, Sebastian Vettel was actually running a race simulation, not qualifying laps... pretty obvious too, since he did about 7 or 8 laps where each one was roughly 0.300 seconds faster than the last, instead of that usual "one slow lap, one fast lap" routine...
Looks like Lewis Hamilton had a similar program going, but I didn't catch what Rosberg, Kimi, or the rest of the teams were up to...
Could easily be they were just running simulations based on a first stint and then a second stint strategy. 😉

Rain's falling, but at the absolute worst possible time—Sunday's looking like it'll be nothing but sunshine.

So, is Lewis Hamilton actually faster than Nico Rosberg?

Does anyone happen to have a photo or perhaps a video showing the updates they made over at the pool complex? They were tinkering with that section recently. I haven't been keeping up with the training sessions lately, so I'm a bit out of the loop regarding the specifics.

Not sure what they messed with over there, but man, that first turn really bugs me. They totally ruined it with that grass strip—now people can't even navigate it properly, and you saw how wide that section could be...

No clue. I heard some rumors that they messed around with the curbing near the tunnel exit, if I recall correctly.
