Alonso's penalty is absolute nonsense. From where I was sitting, it looked like Hulk tried to dive into the corner right over the top of him while he was still level with the car. Just pure stupidity.
Kimi and Ricciardo were in two completely different worlds today. Kimi was fighting his tires just to stay upright, chasing that car down the entire track, while Ricciardo was absolutely flying—he practically forced his way past. Honestly, if Kimi had spun off, Ricciardo probably would have ended up facing a penalty.

Both penalties are completely nonsensical.

If we are going to hand out penalties—regardless of how many of us might disagree with the practice of punishing drivers—then Ricciardo certainly earned one this time. Can you even imagine what the outcry would have been if Maldonado had pulled that same stunt?

The core issue for Kimi remains qualifying. When you are racing in Monaco, you are essentially doomed if you find yourself stuck behind a slower car. On other tracks (with the exception of Canada), that shouldn't be such a catastrophic problem.

Furthermore, that little clip from the official page that you shared seems to confirm that Lewis is largely responsible for losing that first place spot himself. If things were slightly different, mistakes of that nature could very well cost him the championship.

No surprise he didn't take it out on the crew. Honestly, there’s no point in blaming them when he’s clearly the one who forced the pit stop in the first place.

It’s actually pretty funny how many times they had to tell him to "stay positive" right before he hit the pits. 😁
Looks like he panicked, which triggered a chain reaction of panic from them too, and they ended up making that call because of it.

PB: “So we're staying out, and you're just supposed to stay positive.”

PB: “Okay, Lewis Hamilton, a Safety Car has been deployed.”

LH: “Are you certain staying out is the right call?”

It really isn't surprising that he didn't lose his temper with the crew, because, when you think about it, there is no question that he himself was the primary reason they decided to enter the ring...

And isn't it also peculiar how many times they had to tell him to "Stay positive" just before he actually entered the ring? 😁
One gets the impression that he was starting to panic, which likely caused the team to panic as well, leading them to make their decision under that sort of pressure...

As much as Lewis Hamilton bears responsibility for the decision to enter the ring, the pit wall shares just as much blame; they ought to have acted with a bit more decisiveness, and I suppose this serves as a lesson for them moving forward.

"Is staying out really the right call here?"
And between second and third place, we've got:
"Okay Lewis, we need that pit confirmation now." It’s obvious they’re looking for him to confirm what’s actually going down... which means he had to be the one to call it when he spotted Scuderia Ferrari out there on the track. 😳

He doesn't even have his confirmation to enter the ring, and yet here we go again:
"We’re staying out. We are staying out. Staying out."
They’ve probably already filmed it, realizing the whole thing was way too close for comfort.

So that after all this, Lewis Hamilton would chime in again:
"Hey guys, That’s definitely not looking good. These tires are completely cold. Total ice. Everyone’s switching to options now.”
It’s obvious the panic in Germany was real. They clearly felt the pressure and decided he had to enter the ring just to keep Lewis Hamilton from losing his mind and making life difficult for them.

The only weird thing about the Mercedes-Benz pit wall is that they completely missed the mark on the bolded call. Huge mistake on their part. Nico Rosberg, Sebastian Vettel, Daniil Kvyat, and Kimi Räikkönen are all staying out behind you.
