So, if Poland actually pulls an upset against Germany, how do the Mexicans need to play to avoid running into us in the semifinals? Or does some other specific scoreline have to happen first?

Honestly, the more I look at this, the more I think the water polo tournament format is actually the superior way to do things..

With six teams, the top seed goes straight to the semifinals—so they actually have a reason to play hard until the very end—while the second and third seeds move on to the quarterfinals..

Though, granted, even that system isn't perfect..

Well, that’s that. I guess we learned our lesson for next time, right? Honestly, if they can just lock in on Mexico now and grab that 5th or 6th place spot, I'd call that a win. But man, that goal from Lindberg... you guys have no idea how much that actually hurts. I swear, I just want to go hide in the bathroom and cry like a little kid!🙂

They're at a critical juncture with a 6 to 4 lead and they just concede a goal. All Slaven fans are exactly the same! 😁

Yeah, it's pretty much a done deal. But if North Mexico pulls this off, they move on to fight for fifth place. I haven't looked into how that affects the Olympics, but maybe it gives them a shot at qualifying. 🤷
