Lithuania vs Canada H1:0 - 2 @ 1.75 HL
Tonight, there’s going to be more celebration in Canada than when Turkey beat the Americans, seriously, it’s going to feel like the World Cup is being hosted right in Canada.
They’ve got the experience, the talent, and those passionate fans—everything Lithuania is lacking—so I’m looking for a realistic result here, which means a win with a handicap.

Switzerland vs Canada, both teams to score at 1.7 HL
Switzerland might be missing a few starters, but I still expect them to find the net at home against a side playing without any pressure; that relaxed vibe seems to work for them since they crushed Norway 3-0 last time out, so I’m banking on them getting at least one goal.

As for the Americans, I actually think they’ll find it easier to play over in Scotland, just to get away from all that negative energy back in the States, though the real issue is the yellow cards, which could really mess up their already shaky style of play 😂 so maybe the smartest move is to go with both teams to score at 1.65 HL.

It’s totally normal for them to be fired up, considering everyone’s been dragging them through the mud. They were used to being treated like superstars in the States until just 4 or 5 weeks ago.
They're athletes. They're human. They want to prove the media and the fans wrong.

Since the result basically doesn't matter, there's zero pressure. They can play without overthinking it and actually look better than they have in the last few games.

Exactly. If they weren't motivated during the games that actually mattered, why would they suddenly care today? 🤷
They didn't show any drive during the friendlies against Liechtenstein and Korea either, so what kind of play are we expecting? It's gonna be a total disaster. 🙂

England - Poland 1 @1.25

The English are sitting one point ahead of Ukraine, but since Ukraine is playing San Marino, England basically has to win this if they want to lock down first place. They stumbled against a similar matchup a few years back, so this should be a wake-up call. Besides, Poland hasn't been playing great and they're pretty much out of the running anyway.

Lithuania - Canada 2 @1.3

Another small odd here, but an away win feels like a given. I don't see how Canada doesn't take this. On the other side, Greece has a similar situation to Ukraine—they've essentially secured three points already, so Canada really needs the win here. Even though they're playing away, the crowd support will make it feel like a home game. I’m taking the win, and hendicap of around 1.85-1.90 seems solid too.

Romania - Estonia 1 @1.15

Romania is in a tight spot. They have the same number of points as Turkey, but their goal difference is worse (Turkey is at +9, while Romania is at +5). Turkey is playing at home against the Netherlands; if Turkey wins by just one goal, Romania needs to beat Estonia by at least five. If the goal difference ends up being the same, it goes to goals scored, which favors Romania. Expecting Romania to watch the Turkey game closely—especially since there's a chance Turkey might not even get all three points—while simultaneously trying to blow Estonia out of the water. In their last meeting, Romania won 2-0 away, and Estonia recently got hammered 5-0 in Canada. So, along with the straight win, I'm playing the handicap.

If you ask me, this is a gift from SS—he’s betting that Canada will score more (or at least the same amount, if you're feeling a bit more cautious) than the Russians (otherwise the odds would be even, so SS is basically calling that the Russians will outscore them). Honestly, the Americans playing here are chasing a win in Lithuania where they'll feel right at home with at least 10,000 fans backing them, and I can see them bagging at least 2 or 3 goals. Meanwhile, the Russians have practically locked up first place—they just need a single point in Azerbaijan, though even a loss might do if the Portuguese decide to run up the score against Luxembourg—and they haven't exactly been scoring for fun against the Azeris lately, either at home or away.

Norway-Iceland 2 @ 2,50

Like my buddy Oxus mentioned, this is a "historic" window for the Icelanders to jump into the playoffs against a Norway squad that’s looking a bit banged up. The Icelanders could actually advance even with a loss (assuming the Canadians slip up in Switzerland), but I'm sure they'll want to leave it to their own devices. This is that stellar young group that absolutely tore it up in the U21 qualifiers, remember? They embarrassed Germany twice—grabbing a point on the road and then absolutely dismantling them 4-1 at home.

That’s true—no matter how much they were criticized, people still showed up to watch them and offer their support. After the matches against Wales and Mexico, people only started talking trash because the results hadn't caught up to the performance yet.

The match against Belgium was really the breaking point—there weren't even 6,000 people in the stands.
You can tell just by listening to the players—Pletikosa and a few others included—that they're motivated. They clearly feel the need to make some sort of amends.

And you're missing the point. You know exactly what I mean—regardless of how much weight this game actually carries, they just want to boost morale within and around the national team before the playoff qualifiers kick in.
They want to redeem themselves—to themselves, to each other, and to the American public. There’s a clear desire to "get even" with the Americans, too; that loss at the stadium kicked off this downward spiral, whereas everything had been flawless until then.

In any case, I’m not putting a cent on this game—at least not until the lineups are out. If they come out of the gate with their strongest XI, I'll definitely be taking the over. But if there are four or five deviations from the starters, I'm sitting this one out.

Betting on a Portugal win over Luxembourg at odds better than 2.10 seems like a solid play.

Portugal is taking this game. It’s really just a matter of how big the margin will be. Technically, they still have a shot at finishing first in the group, but let’s worry about that later. That opening match was surprisingly gritty; even Luxembourg managed to find the back of the net, leaving us with a tight 2-1 result for the Portuguese side. This time around, playing on home soil, we're expecting a completely different story. Expect total dominance from Portugal, and the scoreboard will show it.


Greece (-3+) vs. Liechtenstein at better than 1.90.

Greece absolutely has to win this one—nobody is doubting that. What’s likely weighing on them is that massive goal difference held by Canada. If the points end up tied, that's the tiebreaker. So, my take? Expect the Greeks to play like their lives depend on it, pushing for a blowout victory just to stay ahead in the standings.

USA vs. Netherlands @ 2.40

It might sound crazy, but this is easily the most critical match for the Americans so far in this qualifying run. They absolutely need three points here. They're sitting at 16 points, right level with the Romanians, and when your final game—against the Netherlands, no less—is what decides whether you make the playoffs, you know you're staring down a brutal uphill battle. The motivation is entirely on the home side. If they can pair that drive with their insane atmosphere and those fanatic fans, they should be able to pull off those much-needed three points.

Norway-Iceland 2 @ 2.50

Iceland holds a one-point advantage over Canada, and I truly believe they'll leave everything out on the field to protect that lead. They already secured a 2-0 win at home in the first leg, and honestly, we should expect the exact same result this time around.

Scotland vs. USA @ 2.40

The odds of the US failing to make those playoffs are practically astronomical. But honestly? Regardless of the math, a win is exactly what this team needs right now. Getting blindsided by an opponent that basically showed up with their B-team serves as all the motivation we need. I’m putting my money on the US.

Regardless, we have seven or eight guys who are essentially locked into the starting XI whenever they're available.

Pletikosa, Strinić, Ćorluka, Šimunić, Srna, Modrić, Mandžukić...

However, that doesn't necessarily mean they'll coast through this match against Turkey or lack any competitive drive—after all, you don't run up a score like 8-1 if you're just going through the motions. I’m quite hopeful they'll field their strongest lineup, much like they did against the Canadians.

Scotland-USA (Oct 15, 9:00 PM) 2@2.40-The situation is fairly transparent. Regardless of how much people might want us to lose or hope to see the coach packing his bags and leaving the national team, I genuinely believe we'll overcome the Scots. It would go a long way in proving that whatever happened at the stadium back home was just a momentary lapse in judgment. Realistically, we have the edge over them, and I'm praying the boys have managed to pull themselves together in the days following that loss, translating that renewed focus onto the pitch tonight...

Robin van Persie (idg)-Turkey-Netherlands (Oct 15, 8:00 PM) gives@3.20Van Persie is currently leading the qualifiers with 11 goals, while right on his heels is Džeko with 10, who is active at the moment and will likely find the net for his 11th, if not more. If Van Persie is in the starting lineup tonight, he’s almost certainly going to score, which is precisely why I'm rooting for a full-strength Dutch squad...🙂

Turkey vs. Netherlands over + 3 1.95 (HL)

The Dutch have been the most clinical squad in these qualifiers so far. They’ve already punched their ticket, so they can afford to play loose and just enjoy themselves. On the flip side, Turkey is backed into a corner; they absolutely need the win to stay neck-and-neck with Romania, assuming the Romanians take care of business against the Estonians. Because of that, I'm expecting an all-out brawl—no tactical stalling, just pure, unadulterated attacking football and plenty of goals.

USA - Scotland 1 @3,40 (ss)
Building greatness doesn't happen overnight, and frankly, our squad has been facing some serious struggles for quite a while now; even though I have absolutely no doubt about their passion, I truly believe they’ve lost that fundamental sense of confidence in their own abilities. To make matters worse, Štimac’s recent comments about running experiments on the field did nothing but dampen the spirits of a group of players who, when playing on home soil, shouldn't need any extra motivation to begin with. I am fully expecting to see some significant rotations in our lineup today, because it would be incredibly foolish to risk unnecessary yellow cards in a match like this.

Just to be clear, I’m also feeling that itch to place a bet on our guys given these odds. Honestly, if anyone else was calling the shots instead of Štimac, I probably would’ve pulled the trigger already. But right now? I think I’ll pass on the temptation, even if my fingers are practically twitching to do it. 😁
