Why does the forum lag so much from 9 AM to midnight?

alright, tech talk... besides the fact that there are way fewer people lurking online right now, what else changes during these late-night hours? everything seems to be running smooth as hell at 1 AM... but during the day? total chaos. you can actually get some 😁

At one point tonight, the site was crawling so badly I thought my connection died. We had over 7,000 users and guests hitting the page at once. Now? It’s down to about 2,500, which is more like a normal Tuesday. The server is probably choking on its own weight. It needs to clear out those massive archives and all those dead threads. When everyone rushes the gates like that, it’s just a total bottleneck—like a massive gridlock on the I-95 during rush hour. Everything just turns into a mess.😁

Right now, though, it’s actually smooth sailing.

And now, at 4 in the morning!!! Not that it matters—my old man used to say the same thing!

Everything posted before 2011 needs to be moved over to a separate hard drive and put into the Reddit search engine.
Just reroute everything to the server and that specific drive. If we do that, those 7,000 users probably won't be such a headache anymore.

Reddit is easily one of the absolute biggest data giants on the web here in the States, and honestly, I’d bet it's even bigger if you look globally. It makes me wonder, though—does anyone actually realize just how much raw horsepower those servers need to keep everything running? Like, seriously, can you even imagine the astronomical price tag on the kind of high-end server setups required to keep a massive beast like this platform running smooth as silk without any lag? I really think the editorial team should take advantage of all those little ad banners they have up; they could totally use them to promote their own merch or even set up a dedicated donation link where the most loyal users can toss in a few bucks to help keep the lights on.☕

There are billions of threads on Reddit that have been locked and serve absolutely no purpose anymore... especially those bloated with endless images and videos. It would certainly help if they were just purged. But instead, they preserve them for some future "generation" of users hoping to stumble upon something specific via a search engine...

Everything has gone downhill over the last week! I honestly can’t wrap my head around what shifted so drastically in just seven days. There is no way the server suddenly "aged out" overnight, and there's no way our user count quintupled out of nowhere either!
