Sorry if this topic has already been covered—I did some digging, but couldn't find anything quite like this...

I’m curious if anyone here has actually tried calcium chewables and what your experience was like?

I just had my bloodwork done, and my doctor told me my calcium levels are low. I’ve also noticed my nails are constantly splitting and peeling, which I'm assuming is tied to the deficiency. It feels a bit weird to me, though, because I drink more than half a liter of milk a day and eat plenty of dairy products, so I have no idea how I could be running low...🤷

So what are your Vitamin D levels looking like?
Basically, you need Vitamin D to actually absorb calcium. Since you mentioned you’re getting enough calcium in your diet, there's a huge chance your deficiency is coming from a lack of Vitamin D instead.
Where are you living? Are you stuck in somewhere cold like Seattle or Chicago? The main way we get Vitamin D is through sunlight, so if you aren't getting enough sun, that could be causing both issues.
Another thing—if you're a woman going through menopause, your estrogen levels drop, which leads to bone decalcification. In that specific case, just taking a calcium supplement might do the trick.
As for your nails peeling, that sounds more like a Vitamin B complex deficiency than a calcium issue.
Personally, I tossed those pills, but honestly, you probably need to take them every single day for a few months just to get your levels back to normal.

Add more fruits and veggies. My mom rarely touches dairy, and she actually had the best calcium levels when she was working at her old job. She just eats a ton of produce instead. A lot of people can't handle milk anyway; maybe you should check if you have a lactose intolerance. Besides, humans didn't even consume much milk a long time ago. We were mostly gatherers, picking things straight from nature.

I’m living in San Francisco, so I’m out in the sun and by the coast pretty much all the time. I’ve still got a long way to go before menopause hits, or at least that's the plan. 😬
Nah, my Vitamin D levels are totally fine.
I think I'll give those tablets a shot; it shouldn't be too hard to kick this. Thanks.😉

I dealt with low calcium levels myself, which caused my skin to peel and my nails to flake, especially during the spring. It took forever—literally years—to figure out what was actually going on. We finally found a fix through brewer's yeast, so I started taking that, and everything's been fine since. Might be worth giving it a shot if you haven't already.

Here’s another batch for you: raw sesame seeds, maybe tossed in a pan for a bit, some dried parsley, plus I'm knocking back half a liter of milk and three big spoonfuls of cheddar every single day.
Natural Vitamin D? Just grab some peanuts in the shell.

There’s plenty more out there if you just bother to Google it.
