The way some mods behave on other threads is honestly so gross that I’ve been sitting on this idea for a while now—thinking about finally starting a thread like this. The issue, IMO, is pretty specific: a mod from one sub-forum can't exactly discipline a mod from another (you know, birds of a feather flock together), and that lack of oversight gives certain moderators way too much room to be insulting, belittling, or just straight-up mocking regular users for their own amusement. There's this obvious tension between the "scientific" crowd and those into Alternative Medicine, and you really see the worst behavior from certain mods when they wander over to the Alternative section. I won't ramble on, but here's an example.
Moderator Tik and her posts over in Alternative > Alternative Medicine > MMS experience exchange - discussion: post #482 which I've quoted. Just so you know, those seven posts of hers made up about 70% of the total posts in that thread at the time. And then today, she went and dropped a post like this, which obviously got a huge backlash from everyone. I've been putting off opening a vent thread like this, but this was seriously the last straw!

That's all for now. Sorry if there's already a similar thread out there—if so, please just move my intro to the right spot.

Look, if you’re hell-bent on following the path of Alternative Medicine, you have to be prepared to suffer for it; I mean, isn't being heckled by a crowd probably a lot less brutal than meeting the fate of Giordano Bruno, Galileo Galilei, or Copernicus? Only time will tell whether your "alternative" actually gains any traction, or if you're just going to end up as one of those fringe mystics peddling snake oil at a roadside carnival in middle America.

So, what you're telling me is I need to become a Moderator Tik just so I can dish out the same energy to the other side—insulting people without getting banned just because I have a mod badge?

Is it actually okay—or even allowed under the rules here—for a Moderator Tik from one thread to call the users in another thread idiots?
Does the official policy of this forum really include tolerating that kind of behavior from people who are supposed to be objective and neutral so they can actually guide the discussions?

I’m all for it (though the crowd over at the Alternative forum is pretty weird, so I tend to steer clear). A few moderators have already handed out partial bans on other boards. In my book, what happened on Tik's board qualifies as blatant harassment—a week-long suspension should be the standard here.

Honestly, when I warned ZgSash that he was insulting the users, he just shrugged and told me I could report him to the admin. So fine, consider it reported...

Alternative Medicine is nothing more than a cesspool where hypochondriacs and people who get off on how much they can manipulate the masses congregate. I lash out occasionally—actually, more frequently lately—because I’m constantly laughing at the sheer ignorance regarding basic natural sciences. I’m honestly thinking about compiling a "Best Of" list of the absolute nonsense posted on this subforum just so I don't have to waste time using a search engine every single time I want to show someone why their take is laughable. 😁

placidheron24, when you write stuff like that, don't expect unconditional support from all 235 random keyboard warriors. At least not from those who actually graduated from or are studying at science-based universities. You might get support from your neighbor Mica, who holds consultations in her backyard while getting her hair done, but not from us. That's why you're "alternative," I guess... 🤷

Timothy Jackson2, honey, I know exactly how you feel 🙂. That scent of fresh air with a hint of ratio that you bring to these stale threads is pure poison to them 😵 Don't let them provoke you; let them rot. Better yet, let's toast to it: grab the silver chalices, pour yourself some Clorox, Timothy Jackson2 drinks peroxide: 🙂

Honestly, I might just compile a "Best Of" list of the absolute nonsense posted on this sub so I don't have to waste time using a search engine every single time I want to prove someone wrong with something that makes me... well, laugh until I cry. 😁

Oh my god, I almost choked laughing! 🤣 👍 🙏

To be honest, when I warned ZgSash that he was insulting the forum members, he just told me I could report him to the admin, so fine, consider it reported...

I’ve already told you once, but I guess I’ll say it again. You have plenty of other subforums to hang out in. You can give the PZ section a very wide berth if you want. First of all, you are constantly making snide remarks. Second, let me reiterate: if you have an issue with how I moderate this specific subforum, feel free to file a complaint. Just chill out, man. It’s not like we grew up in the same neighborhood together...😉

As much as it pains me to care about people poisoning themselves, I just can't help it. They simply don't grasp the basics of chemistry or biology. It’s not really their choice to take MMS or this new version of H2O2 that bothers me. (😂) It's their sheer ignorance that gets to me.

Damn, how did you even know I drink peroxide?

Should the official policy really be to tolerate this kind of behavior from people who are supposed to maintain objectivity and steer discussions neutrally?

As far as I know, a moderator is just an ordinary user outside their specific section. Due to technical constraints, they can't hand out warnings or bans there, but that doesn't stop them from reporting things to the admins (please don't send those kinds of messages to me) who have the power to act.

Another thing: you see this as Tik's insult, but trashing all of science and everyone working in the field is something else entirely. In other words, watch what you wish for; the moderators over there tend to give much more leeway to local types than to the crew coming down from the CDC (strangely enough, it always seemed to be the other way around at the CDC).

Look, you’re framing this as just some petty insult from Tik, but trash-talking the entire scientific community and everyone working in it—or who used to—is... I don't even know what to call it. Basically, you better watch your step with what you demand, because the mods over there already give way more leeway to the locals than they ever do to the crew coming in from Reddit (somehow, it's always been the exact opposite on Reddit)

.

1. There’s a massive line between having a critique (or just disagreeing with someone) and DIRECTLY insulting people. If I call someone frustrated or a moron—which we’ve seen happen with Timothy Jackson2 and Endimion17—then yeah, that’s an insult. But if I say I disagree with an opinion? That isn't an insult!
To wrap it up: we can have different takes, but we shouldn't be hurling insults (even if certain mods seem to think otherwise)
. 2. Slamming science might be my personal take or someone else's, but that doesn't give anyone a free pass to attack the other side just because they disagree. Also, if someone starts attacking everyone in general, that counts as being insulting too—especially since it usually happens when people run out of actual arguments (just look at Tik's posts above)—and then it usually leads to labeling (something the Reddit mods absolutely love to do—take a look at nimblewalker58's post on this thread where she labeled me a "dark mage")
. 3. I’m noticing some serious double standards here. Users on both sides can get nasty, sure, but I’ve never once noticed the Alternative Medicine mods being insulting toward the "opposing" side (Reddit). On the flip side, ever since I joined this forum, I've seen not just most of the Reddit mods, but even some mods from other subreddits, acting incredibly disrespectful toward our users—and sometimes even toward the Alternative Medicine mods themselves
. 4. Honestly, if the people running this place have some sort of grudge against Alternative Medicine, or if they just don't want this subreddit to exist, it would be better to just come clean. That way, we aren't all wasting our energy arguing and fighting. Those of us posting here would be perfectly happy to move our discussions over to competing forums if we just knew where we stood
. 5. It looks like this thread isn't going to lead anywhere besides more debating (in the usual tone), so I guess I'll have to take this to higher authorities

Who is even bringing up the Main Board right now? If your moderation on there ever actually bothers me, I’ll lodge a complaint about it then. The only oversight I see so far is that you forget to ban clones of banned users (or you're choosing to skip them). We all know exactly who I'm talking about, regardless of how much of a high-quality poster they might be.
Sorry if I'm ruining your fun, but I'll keep posting on the Main Board as long as I feel like it, or until I get kicked out for breaking the rules.
This isn't even about you as the Main Board Moderator.

First off, you’re constantly being a jerk. Second, let me repeat: if you have an issue with my moderation, you can complain about it on this subforum. Chill out, man. It's not like we grew up together. 😉

The issue here isn't my behavior. I take my cards and bans when I earn them—sometimes partial, sometimes full—and everyone stays happy and peaceful. This is about what happened down here:

Timothy Jackson2 said:You’re just a bitter person. You weigh maybe 130 pounds, try to work out, but hey, one arm was crippled. It wouldn't be MMS if it hadn't helped you so that both your arms are functional now. I assume you don't have a wife or kids. You've poured your whole life into promoting Alternative Medicine and you're trying with everything you've got to make people follow you. Of course, you do it just so you don't bruise your ego any further. (Since you aren't physically attractive, you have to compensate by acting like a genius. You expect people to admire you, and that feeds your ego.) My dear Alan, do something about your looks, find yourself a woman, and you'll be more satisfied with life. A lack of sex—or a total absence of it—is frustrating. I wish you luck. Once you discover how nice it is to have someone by your side, you won't need to feed your ego on a forum.

This is a blatant insult to a fellow member based on a disability🙂 and it has absolutely nothing to do with how much the two of us dislike each other. When I made a joke that resulted in me insulting Quina and Decka-Osob, I took my partial ban and cooling-off period without complaining because I knew I had violated the forum rules (which, as far as I'm concerned, are the only rules that matter 😉)
Those rules apply to you too, and you should at least apologize to the guy for the insult. Even I don't stoop to such low levels of pettiness, no matter how much someone gets on my nerves; maybe that's something you should take note of.

I'm heading out, Šarka and Rumenka are waiting for me. 😉

Disclaimer: I do not support MMS as a medical treatment, nor do I support practicing medicine by individuals who lack proper education under US law.

I totally get where you're coming from with that disclaimer—it’s fair, and honestly, it's pretty respectful of you to state your stance on Alternative Medicine clearly like that. It keeps things civil...
But hey, let's slow down for a second. I think we're finally getting to the heart of the issue here—and I really believe we're about to figure out what's actually going on... just a thought.

Go right ahead. Honestly, you should have done that from the jump. But hey, I suppose you just have to leave a trail of complaints everywhere you go, so I can't say I'm surprised you started this thread... Anyway, while you're still on your way, why don't you take a quick stroll over to the Reddit BEST OF thread? 👋

@Nicole Collins13, I honestly don't know how else to put this nicely without sounding blunt, but you really need to back off. I've tried being subtle about it more times than I can count, but you just don't seem to be getting the hint. Clearly, I haven't been direct enough... 🙄

Look, I wasn't even talking to you. You aren't part of this conversation, and frankly, I couldn't care less about your input (you just happened to jump in by quoting my post). It doesn't matter to me if you're Endymion, Tyndall, Deedy, Shady, Matesonik, or some other moderator.
The point is that a moderator broke a rule that carries a 500-point penalty and a 7-day ban. If their username wasn't redacted, they’d be facing that exact punishment. My question is whether moderators actually face consequences when they cross the line on Reddit.
Rules should apply to everyone—me, regular users, and moderators alike.

I mean, honestly... where do we even begin with this? It feels like we’re staring straight into the twilight—that whole "Götterdämmerung" vibe, you know?—where everything we thought was solid just starts to crumble around us. It's heavy stuff. I've been sitting here thinking about how quickly things can shift from feeling secure to feeling like the floor is falling out from under your feet. It’s that sense of an era ending, almost like watching a sunset that you know isn't going to lead to a peaceful morning, but rather a long, dark night. Just... heavy. Anyway, I didn't mean to get all deep on you guys, but sometimes you just have to say it out loud. kaže:
Son, when you start posting stuff like this, you really can't expect much. unconditional I mean, come on—where is the support from all 235k users? You’d think at least some of them would step up, especially the ones who actually finished their degrees or are currently grinding through college. It’s all just built on a foundation of naturally occurring fake news—you know, those half-truths that feel so right because they sound like common sense, even when they're completely fabricated? It's wild how much people swallow just because a lie feels "natural."You’ll have Mica rooting for you—you know, the neighbor who spends her whole day running consultations out of a chicken coop near the local barbershop—but don't expect any support from the rest of them. That's why being part of the Alternative scene is actually pretty cool... 🤷

I’m all for them—honestly, even my own university falls right into that category.

I guess I'll just jump in here. Don't know anyone involved, but this

Kate Bishop76 said:You’re just a bitter person. You weigh like 10 pounds, try to work out, but whatever, one arm was messed up. It wouldn't be MMS if it didn't help you out, so now both your arms are fine.

is just straight-up insulting people on the board, and honestly, I don't think anyone—not even the admin—should get a pass for stuff like that.
The mods and admins really need to watch their language, and when they let behavior like this slide, they should probably apologize.

My suggestion is either an isolation to some desert island in real life, or if there's already an Alternative section on Reddit, then it needs to be respected just like any other sub. Same goes for the people talking in Alternative.
If the pacifists started attacking the Military forum, or scientists hit up Alternative, or Non-partisan politics, or history revisionists, where would the site even be?
And one more thing, a sub's dignity is kept by the moderator running it, so this isn't really Timothy Jackson2's fault, it's the mod on Alternative who didn't ask the admin for a ban.

Whatever, not like it matters...😁
