Hi there...
Well, I’ve finally pulled the trigger and decided to go through with rhinoplasty; I already had my consultation with the surgeon and we’ve officially set the date. During the exam, he walked me through his vision for the procedure, and honestly, I found myself nodding along to everything he suggested 😁 ...so basically, from every angle, things are going to get a bit "refined." I didn't quite think to ask if he plans on touching the nasal bridge—does that usually mean the bridge gets lowered, or is the goal more about adding definition? I'm curious if everyone who has undergone this surgery ends up with a narrower bridge or what. Anyway... hope you're all doing well 🙂

So, I finally pulled the trigger on getting my nose done... already had my consultation with the surgeon and picked a date on the calendar... during the exam, he walked me through his game plan and I was pretty much on board with everything 😁 ...basically, everyone's got an opinion on how it should be "fixed" up... I didn't get a chance to ask if he'd be touching the nasal bones though... like, does that automatically mean the bridge gets narrower, or is that a separate thing?? Did everyone who’s had this done end up with a narrower bridge? Just wondering... anyway, hope everyone's doing good 🙂

In my experience, it's not a given—it doesn't happen to everyone.......not for me, at least.......mind you, the doc told me my nasal bones are actually really small, maybe even too small, but he said that's actually a plus because it'll blend perfectly with the new, smaller nose shape, so he doesn't need to touch them at all......but I guess if they were way too wide and he had to shorten the tip, then yeah, you'd probably assume he'd have to shave down the bridge too, right.......

Has anyone here gone in just for a "hump reduction"?😁

Look, I don't want anyone touching the tip of my nose—not the width, not the length—I just have this bump on my profile (😢) and I want them to just smooth that out. Is that actually a thing? What’s the process like? And does it hurt like hell?

I'm honestly pretty terrified because I know a girl who had nose surgery—like, her entire nasal structure was reworked—and she was in absolute agony, and get this, she's still feeling it even four months later...😢😢

In my case, they just filed down the hump without messing with the actual bridge at all...
Recovery was quick and easy—literally just a week—though I did manage to wander around a mall while still wearing my splint 😍.
To be totally honest, getting a wisdom tooth pulled felt way worse than having my nose smoothed out 😂.
Mine was a very minor correction! (Though, full disclosure, it hasn't fully healed after two months yet; I still have some swelling right where the old hump used to be)

Man, I wouldn't mind just getting my septum fixed too...🙂 I’m assuming the cost is basically the same as if they were doing a full rhinoplasty? And, oh yeah, did they classify you under local anesthesia or did they go with general?

I went with the local...👍
And honestly? It’s true... you hear all these weird, uncomfortable sounds, but there isn't any actual pain. I spent the whole time just chatting away with the doctor. 😂
He was actually explaining everything he was doing—since I asked him to— 😲 which apparently surprised him, since he couldn't believe I wanted to know the details.
If it’s not some massive, complicated surgery, I’d recommend local anesthesia to anyone.

I had a minor procedure myself, but boy, did it end up being a huge expense. 🙄

Hehehe, I totally agree... and honestly, I bet none of you guys are packing more than me... u-gh! I mean, looking at my face from the front, everything seems fine, but my profile... GOOD GRIEF, WHY ME?!
...I'm actually planning on getting surgery, but I'm waiting until I turn 18 😉🙂🙂

Hey everyone!
I had my rhinoplasty back in August last year at a private clinic in Arcadia.
I'm actually really happy with how it turned out, especially the profile. However, my nostrils have always been quite wide, which still bothers me a bit. I was wondering what you all think—should I go through with narrowing them?
The doctor mentioned he'd do it for free since it’s already covered in the initial cost.
My only hesitation is that they have to make small incisions, which might leave tiny scars... but honestly, they feel way too large to me. They just look like little holes!
I’d really appreciate some honest feedback. What do you think of my nose now, and would you personally opt for that extra procedure?

Your nose looks so much better now... but if I were in your shoes, I'd probably get the nostrils narrowed, especially if it's free. I mean, why not make it even more perfect?!🙂😉🙂😉

So... first off, I want to mention that I'm only 15, so most people would probably think I'm crazy for even considering nose surgery at this age. Everyone seems to assume it's just because of puberty, but trust me, that's not it... I really have this huge bump on my profile; from the front, it looks okay and cute, but that bump is just way too big. I've tried bringing it up with my parents a few times, but they always turn it into a joke or tell me I'm being wild just for thinking about it. It honestly hurts that they don't seem to care how much this bothers me. I told Mom earlier that I wanted to talk to her, and she said sure, but only if we aren't talking about any actual surgery, so I just retreated to my room immediately... It's unbelievable how closed-minded some people can be and how out of touch they are with the modern world. To them, it's all just "oh my goodness" and that's it. Cosmetic procedures are totally normal nowadays and more and more people are doing them... but they're living in their own little bubble. It's awful!
I didn't mean I was going to get it done right now, but rather once I'm an adult. I know I'm still developing and that I need to wait...
Once I set my mind on something, I usually make it happen, because why not look your best when you have the chance?
I should probably mention that I actually have pretty facial features and nice eyes, but that nose... well, it's a disaster.
So, what am I asking you guys?
I'm wondering what the recommended age limit is for surgery—is it 18, or maybe 22 years old? I saw someone mention "22" in some posts recently. Isn't that such a long time to wait?! 🤷😲😢

I’m heading in for surgery tomorrow and honestly, I'm freaking out...
They’re doing it under general anesthesia because I told them how terrified I am. Has anyone else had surgery under general, or is everyone usually just on local-plus?

You only need to be 18 for the surgery—honestly, I have no idea why anyone would think you'd need to wait until 22.

I totally get where you're coming from, rowdymarlin99—I’ve been dealing with the exact same thing. Ever since I was about 12, I've been miserable about my nose, especially in profile because it's got this prominent, larger shape. I'm 20 and a half now and still haven't gone through with surgery because I don't have my own cash. My parents could easily cover it, but they just won't. I wouldn't say they're being stingy, per se, but they're old-school and super conservative—they constantly try to convince me my nose isn't even big or whatever... just the usual nonsense. I honestly don't know what to do anymore. I'm in college, so I thought I might pick up some work over the summer, but it's nowhere near enough money. I'm stuck. And I shouldn't even have to emphasize how much it bothers me—I just can't accept it. So, yeah, that's the situation. I was wondering if you think something like this could be a psychological issue, or if there are any options to get it done for free or something...

Aha... that sounds great if you can get it done at 18 👍🙂🙂🙂🙂
I feel a little better now 😂
Susan Smith13, I think I heard that you might even be able to have surgery before 18 if they decide it’s really affecting your mental health or something like that... though I'm not sure if that rule still applies once you turn 18. Hmm... maybe you should look into it
I totally get what you mean about the nose; mine is such an absolute disaster, like... well, there's just no comparison... My parents might let me do it, but they won't even hear about it. To them, it’s all just nonsense, blah blah blah... I don't know if they're still stuck in their old ways or just being narrow-minded, but they think any surgery that isn't strictly medically necessary is totally pointless. Like, maybe it isn't a health risk, but it absolutely kills your self-esteem... It's awful. It really bothers me, so I'm holding out until I'm legally an adult... As for wondering how to pay for it... well, if you take out a small loan, it might be doable. Even though everything is so expensive right now in the US—and honestly, everywhere else too 😂🤣—but hey, forget the recession! If those big-shot politicians can afford their luxury cars, we can definitely afford to fix our noses, haha... 🤣

Honestly, there’s really nothing to worry about... it’s such a routine procedure... though I guess I'm actually a little jealous!
I actually think general might be better since you won't have to see what they're doing... it's probably nicer not being conscious for it... and there's really no reason to be scared given how many people have done this already... in just a few days, you'll have a beautiful new nose.🙂🙂🙂😉👍

Look, I actually think general anesthesia is better because you won't even see what they're doing to you. You won't even be aware. There’s zero reason to be scared when so many people have done this already. In a few days, you'll have a much better nose.🙂 🙂🙂😉👍

Good grief, this isn't some "routine" thing. Get real. Your parents are right on this one—you aren't going out to buy a new pair of Nikes, you're going under general anesthesia for surgery followed by a massive recovery period. It takes time. It took me four months after my surgery and I still see blood whenever I blow my nose. So, kid, tone down the optimism and face reality.🙄

Oh yeah, general anesthesia is definitely something to be wary of... it’s no joke. And waking up from it? That experience is absolutely brutal. Honestly, I really hope the age of consent for these kinds of decisions is 21, because reading this kind of nonsense is just painful.

Well, you could have just gone with local anesthesia then... but I guess it feels pretty wild when you realize they're actually working on you like that, huh?🙄

rowdymarlin99 said:You could have just hit up a local spot instead. But honestly, isn't it kind of pathetic when you can clearly see they're just trying to screw you over? Hmm.🙄

It’s not like you're walking into a department store where you get to pick between red or green shoes, for crying out loud. You get the anesthesia that the anesthesiologist decides is best for your specific surgery. In my case, I was told immediately that local anesthesia with sedation was off the table because there’s just too much blood flow involved. Generally speaking, you get general anesthesia unless it's a minor procedure.

Look, I get that you’re frustrated, but don't go brushing this off like it's nothing. This is surgery. A real, serious medical procedure. Nobody is standing there giving you a 100% guarantee that you'll be happy with the results, and nobody can promise you'll even wake up. That risk exists with every single operation. Every single one. Period.

Susan Smith13, I heard you might be able to get surgery before 18 if they confirm it’s causing you mental distress or something similar... though I'm not sure if that applies once you turn 18. Hmm... maybe ask around..
I totally get the nose thing—mine is an absolute disaster too, like... there's just no comparison. My parents might let me do it, but they won't even hear of it. To them, it's all "oh this is terrible" and blah blah blah... are they still living in some outdated mindset? They think any surgery that isn't strictly medically necessary is totally pointless. Maybe it's not "needed" for health, but it kills your spirit. It's awful. It bothers me so much that I'm pushing for it, just waiting until I'm an adult... As for not knowing how to afford it—well, if you take out a small loan, it's doable. Sure, the economy is a mess right now, or rather, the whole world is 😂🤣 but whatever, if certain billionaire politicians can buy themselves luxury cars, we can surely afford to fix our noses, haha...🤣

hehe, you really made me laugh... and you're right about it killing you mentally. Believe me, mental pain is way worse than physical pain and lasts much longer. Well, I'll manage somehow; one day it'll click. Just gotta stay positive, I guess—that's all I have left. I'm constantly hoping that one day this will all be behind me and I can finally feel good about myself... I'm not looking for perfection, just some small changes, but even that feels like a lot...😉

Honestly, you need to dial back the drama a bit. I've been through a major surgery myself and I know how this works—it wasn't even that scary for me personally. I realize everyone reacts differently, but you're being a little paranoid.
