Given how much family history and other risk factors like blood pressure and cholesterol play into this, you really need to stick to whatever your cardiologist prescribed. That’s what they spent years studying for...
Sortis can affect liver enzymes, but it doesn't happen to everyone. If it were truly dangerous, it wouldn't be a standard treatment. You just need to keep an eye on your liver tests every once in a while...

From what I can see, with a double dose of family history and other risk factors like blood pressure and lipids, you really ought to stick to whatever your cardiologist prescribed. The guy went to med school for this, after all.
Sortis might mess with your liver, but it doesn't happen to everyone. If it were truly dangerous, they wouldn't be handing it out. Just get your liver enzymes checked every now and then.

So you're saying I gotta stay on Sortis indefinitely?!
Will Sortis eventually bring my cholesterol down to a decent level?
Do I still need to watch my diet, or does Sortis give me a little wiggle room?
My doctor says there's zero chance of fixing my cholesterol just with diet because I'll be starving all the time,
but even then, nothing changes with the fats?!
With Sortis, am I okay to indulge once in a while, like grabbing some BBQ or something?

Yeah, Sortis is going to continue, and everything is exactly as Dr. Tyler Anderson said. The role of statins (Sortis) isn't just about lowering your fat levels, so don't go stopping once the numbers look good...

So, can I actually drink alcohol while taking Sortis?
The manual says you should cut back on booze
Like, down to the absolute bare minimum?!

Nothing’s going to happen just because you had a glass of wine or a beer, don't stress about it too much...😉

It was just that my wrists were swollen about two weeks ago, so I went in for some testing, and well, this is what they found. Based on your experience, do you think this is something that will clear up with a course or maybe two of antibiotics, or is this going to drag on for a while?

They absolutely have to pinpoint the root cause of this edema first—they can't just treat the symptom without knowing what's driving the fluid retention. Right now, everything is up in the air, and frankly, it's frustratingly vague. Once you actually sit down with the nephrologist, shoot me a private message and let me know what they say.
🙂
You're still just a kid, honestly—you won't get anywhere in this life without a hammer in your hand.🙄

I could use a little help interpreting some recent blood work results. Everything seems to be within the normal range, except for a few specific values: neutrophil granulocytes at 31.9 (ref. interval 44-72), lymphocytes at 60.3 (ref. interval 20-40), and lymphocytes again at 4.0 (ref. interval 1.19-3.35). I would truly appreciate any insight if anyone knows what these shifts might suggest.

I don't think there's anything to worry about.

Thanks, 🙂

What was the actual reason you had the blood drawn in the first place?

Just a routine checkup. I deal with high blood pressure, so I make sure to get my bloodwork done every year. I should mention that the values showing deviations have been the same for three years now; they consistently come back elevated.

So, what’s the doctor saying about all this?
I don't quite grasp how these numbers can stay stuck in the exact same pattern like that.

Well, I am actually heading to the doctor right now. To be honest, I haven't been feeling any real issues, so I didn't think much of it at the time. Since I'm only 22, my doctor figured there probably wasn't much to worry about anyway.

Alright then... please, for my sake, let me know what the doctor tells you.
I need to know!🙂

Nothing much. They said there’s no reason to worry since all the other values fall within the normal range. Apparently, there shouldn't be anything concerning to follow up on.

Here are my lab results:
WBC- 6.28 (3.40-9.70)
RBC- 4.64 (3.80-5.08)
HGB-131 (119-175)
HCT- 0.400 (0.356-0.530)
MCV- 86.2 (83-97.2)
MCH- 28.2 (27.4-33.9)
MCHC- 328 (320-345)
RDW-SD- 39.4 (37.0-54)
RDW-CV- 12.9 (9-15.0)
PLT- 223 (158-424)
MPV- 12.1 (6.8-10.4)
PDW- 17 (9-17)
P-LCR 38.8 (13-43)
PCT- 0.27 (0.17-0.35)

So, it looks like only the MPV is elevated. What does that actually signify? I had this CBC done alongside some hormone testing (prolactin and TSH). I'm 23 years old.

swiftraven15 said:Nothing, they basically said there’s zero reason to panic since every other metric falls perfectly within the standard range, so there shouldn't be any need for concerning follow-ups or adjustments.

Oh, I am just absolutely thrilled about that...😉>

Average platelet volume—this essentially gives you a window into the actual size of your platelets

My mom's hemoglobin is at 63, and her iron is only 1.1.
Does anyone know how dangerous this actually is? And could it be linked to hair loss?

39-year-old male.
Before the war, he had a severe mushroom poisoning—green spores—which left lasting damage in the form of liver lesions.
Wounded during the war, received a blood transfusion, and contracted Hepatitis C.
Later dealt with PTSD, alcohol, and addiction issues.
Hasn't touched alcohol in 10 years.
He refused biopsies because his mother would "pull him away from them."

Yesterday's results: MCV (average red blood cell volume) is 99, reference range is 83-97.
RDW (red blood cell distribution width) is 16.2, reference range is 9-13.

Can someone explain this, please?
Also, transaminases: ALP 81 (ref. 60-142)
GGT 110 (ref. 11-55)
AST 117 (ref. 11-38)
ALT 220 (ref. 12-48)
LD 244 (ref. 124-241)

HDL cholesterol is 1.3.

I’d be grateful for an explanation, ideally in detail. What should I do? Can the liver regenerate after being on medication for all these years? For my part, I'm doing my best—avoiding high-calorie foods and any kind of physical strain—but I've always been a bit high-strung.
Thanks a lot.
Regards!

Hey there—so my dad (born in '53) just got his lab results back, and one of them shows elevated TPA levels. I tried doing a quick search on Google, but honestly, it wasn't very helpful. From what I’ve gathered, high levels are often linked to breast cancer in women... can someone please explain what this actually is and why it might be up?
