I recently went in for some blood work to check my cholesterol—it’s been running a bit high for the last few years now. My numbers came back at 6.04... HDL 3... LDL 2.81

The issue is, a few other things look off too:
Serum iron 25, Fe 7.4, TIBC 47.5.

What does this point toward?
I feel fine otherwise—no real symptoms to report.
Had a sore throat about a month ago, but that cleared up.

Turns out, a few other numbers are looking off too:
Se 25, Fe 7.4, TIBC 47.5.

The details again:

Any idea what this indicates?
I’m feeling okay generally, nothing unusual happening physically.
Just that sore throat from a month back, which is long gone.

You listed your lab results, but you didn't include the reference ranges. Every lab in the US uses slightly different scales. Honestly, your cholesterol is just a bit elevated—you could probably handle that with some Omega-3 supplements from a drugstore, since it isn't high enough to justify heavy medication.
Your iron (Fe) at 7.4 looks low, and since I don't know what the standard range is for your TIBC (total iron binding capacity), I'm guessing it's right on the lower limit. That usually points toward anemia. You'll most likely need to take some iron supplements to get that sorted out.
As for the sedimentation rate, it's just slightly elevated. It might just be leftover from that sore throat you had—nothing to worry about.

Hey,
So I got my bloodwork done this morning, and honestly, my doctor seemed pretty much stumped on how to handle it. Since she was acting all indecisive, I figured I'd throw these numbers up here and see if any pros in the group can make sense of them..
RBC 6.22 (4.34-5.72)
MCV 79 (83.00-97.2)
Iron 7.7 (11-32)
TIBC 44.6 (49-72)
CRP 21.20 (0.0-5.0)😲

Everything else came back looking normal. My doc already put me on some iron supplements...

Hey everyone, I just got my blood work and urinalysis back. I’m looking for some input from anyone who might know what they're looking at, because honestly, I’m holding off on seeing my doctor until this next set of results hits my inbox.
I’m only listing the stuff that isn't quite hitting the standard ranges. My blood count seems fine overall, except for a couple of things (I put the normal ranges in parentheses for you):
neutrophil % = slightly low 43.3 (44-72).
serum appearance = slightly lipemic (normally clear).
and then there's the urine analysis:
pH acidic = (5.0-9.0)
erc/Hb = positive (neg)
protein = slightly opalescent (neg),
glucose = neg. (norm)
leukocytes = 12-15 (0-2(*400))
erythrocytes = 5-7 fresh (0-2(*400))
epithelial cells = a few (0-1(*400)
bacteria = a few (0/neg.(*400))

It sounds like you’re dealing with a mild urinary tract infection—though I honestly have no idea how intense your symptoms actually are right now. My best advice? Try to drink up on some fluids, maybe some herbal tea, and I really don't think you'll end up needing antibiotics for this kind quickly.

hiddensurfer17 said:Earlier today (December 3rd, 2008), I went in for some blood and urine tests. A few things seem out of whack to me: my ALT came back at 64 (standard range is 0-48) and my uric acid is sitting at 452 (standard range is 163-403). On top of that, the lab work showed an MCHC 348 (normal is 320-345) and an RDW of 15.6 (range is 9.0-15.0).
Does anyone have any expert insight on this?

It’s been over two months since those initial blood results came in. I haven't touched alcohol at all—not that I drank much to begin with—and I’ve cut my meat and processed meat intake down to about a third of what it used to be.
I went back for more blood work today, and my uric acid level is still hovering at 450. So, where does that leave me? Am I supposed to just start taking medication? I don't have any symptoms or issues to report.

Had to redo my blood work because my white cell count was up. Here’s what the new results show:

Primary myelofibrosis PMF
JAK2 V617F mutation confirmed, positive result.

My GP didn't say a word—maybe they just don't know? I've got an appointment with a hematologist in ten days.
How dangerous is this?
If anyone actually knows, please let me know.

My primary care doctor didn't really say much (maybe he just doesn't know?), and I don't see the hematologist for another 10 days.

If anyone knows anything, please help me out!

The JAK2 V617F mutation is basically a predictor for how myelofibrosis progresses. It can be linked to polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia, or primary myelofibrosis.
JAK2 affects things like itching, hemoglobin levels, and those fluctuating platelet counts—all of which often tie back to higher white blood cell counts. It's also frequently seen alongside an enlarged spleen.
Treatment really depends on which of those three specific conditions you actually have.

Joshua Cox2, that sounds pretty serious. I'm really sorry you're dealing with this, but you definitely need to see a hematologist for more testing—or they might just decide on a treatment plan based on what you already have.
Where are you planning on seeing a hematologist?

Hey everyone!

I’m looking for some honest input on my current situation:

On the women's side of my family, almost all of us struggle with being anemic. It seems to be a recurring theme.

I went ahead and ran some labs, and here are my numbers:

Ferritin 7 (30-200)
Fe 15.9 (8-30)
UIBC 51.3 (26-59)
TIBC 67.2 (49-75)

Just speaking off the top of my head—everything looks fine except for that ferritin level, which is obviously tanking.

So, what should I actually do about this?

My doctor suggested I just take iron supplements during my period, but I'm not sure if that's enough.

Thanks in advance for any help, and cheers,

E.

Can someone please explain what APTT actually is? I just got my lab results back—I'm scheduled for breast surgery this Monday (it's a benign tumor)—and it says the normal range goes up to 35, but I'm sitting at 36!

Just got my urinalysis results back. Everything looks totally fine except for this one little section—could someone help me make sense of it?

RBCs 0-2
WBCs 5-7
Epithelial cells 1
Mucus 2

Can anyone help me make sense of these results? I'm wondering if they actually point to anything specific or...
I've been dealing with this nagging stinging sensation after I pee—plus some discomfort around my groin area—for about a year and a half now. Every single swab and test comes back totally clean, so the only thing even remotely showing any weirdness is these lab results above.

These results look totally fine. WBC is a tiny bit high, but nothing worth stressing about. RBC count is normal, epithelial cells are normal, and mucus shows up in urine almost all the time... Just redo the test in a week using a midstream catch, just for peace of mind!
Best, from a lab tech!!!!

Need some help here😢🙄Got my bloodwork back today—CBC, iron, glucose, and selenium... everything looks fine except for my ESR, which came in at 2. That’s pretty low for a woman. My red blood cell count is 5.10, which is barely even elevated, but I'm wondering what a low sedimentation rate actually points to.🤷The normal range for women is usually between 4 and 24. What does this mean?😢
Thanks a lot

Low ESR isn't a big deal clinically. Basically, don't sweat it—you're totally fine! 👍😁👍
