Boy, 7 years old. Height: 47 in, Weight: 50 lbs. He’s dealing with anemia, so we ran blood work to get a clear picture of where things stand. Looking for some insight on these results:

-Out of range parameters:

HB: 109 g/L (120 - 175)
MCH: 26.6 pg (27.0 - 33.0)
MCHC: 299 g/L (320 - 360)
RDW: 30.1 % (12 - 15)

SE: 15/34 ( M 5-12 ; F 10-24)

UIBC: 12.5 L umol/L (28.0 - 68.0)
TIBC: 22.8 L umol/L (49.0 - 72.0)

What’s the next step here? What should we be asking the pediatrician?
Thanks in advance. Cheers.

I’m sorry to say, but those results for your little one aren't looking great. This looks like a case of anemia that really needs to be managed exclusively by a hematologist. Since both the UIBC and TIBC levels are low, we could potentially be looking at anemia caused by chronic inflammation, but I honestly don't want to speculate further. Please, just go see a hematologist as soon as possible.

placiddrifter26 said:The JAK2 V617F mutation is a clear predictor for myelofibrosis progression. We’re looking at potential diagnoses like polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia, or primary myelofibrosis.
The JAK2 mutation drives itching, hemoglobin levels, and platelet fluctuations, often alongside higher white blood cell counts. It usually comes with an enlarged spleen, too.
Treatment depends entirely on which of those three conditions you actually have.

I see people bringing up JAK2... I had that same finding myself. My diagnosis was PV (polycythemia vera). I've been managing it for two years now using Litalirum—first with phlebotomies, and for the last ten months, I've been getting erythrocyte apheresis over at the Mayo Clinic.
😕
Now I'm trying to figure out where this is all heading. I've spent way too much time spiraling through internet searches, turning up everything from useful info to pure nonsense. I need hard facts, if anyone can provide them. That isn't to say I don't trust my doctor (Dr. Lazar).
😛

😕
I'm really curious about how this will progress. I've been scrolling through the web, reading everything under the sun. I just need some solid facts if possible. That doesn't mean I don't trust my doctor (Dr. Lazar), though.
😛

First off, you're being treated by Dr. Lazar, so you're lucky to be in his hands—you should definitely trust him.
None of us here are doctors; we're just people who have learned things along the way. Someone gets sick, treats something similar, and then shares what they went through.
As for your condition, I believe it falls into the category of a chronic illness—essentially a lifelong thing due to the abnormal increase in red blood cells. But if you manage it well with therapy and keep things under control, you can definitely slow down its progression.
Try not to overdo the Google searching. Everything online is so general, and it varies wildly from one patient to the next depending on when it's caught and how the body reacts to treatment. Even with the exact same diagnosis, it's hard to find two patients with identical symptoms and response patterns. The more you read, the more stressed you'll get, and you won't gain much from it. If your cytostatic therapy is working well and you're feeling relatively okay, then just enjoy life. Accept the condition as a companion, but make sure it knows you're the one in charge.👋🙂

I haven't seen any posts from melpomena yet! I'm ready to get to work once they start sharing. kaže:
So, I went in for some blood work yesterday, and here’s what my results look like:
My TRC came back at 74 10^9/L (normal range is 158-424). My doctor mentioned she’s a bit concerned about this result, and I'm honestly wondering why. It's clearly below the cutoff, but... what's the big deal?
My lymphocyte count came back at 47, which is just a hair above the standard range of 20 to 46. Honestly, I’m probably overthinking this little bump, but still!
My MCV came back at 99.4 fL, which is just a tiny bit outside the normal range of 83.0 to 97.2. Not exactly what I was expecting!
My white blood cell count came back at 9.6. The normal range goes up to 9.7, so I'm technically still within the lines! Just barely, but I'll take it.
My neurological segment reading came back at 46, with a range between 44 and 72.
My MCHC came back at 320 g/L, which is just a hair under the standard range of 320-345. It’s slightly low, but honestly, I'm trying not to overthink these tiny fluctuations!
Can anyone give me a hand with these lab results?🙂

Your platelet count is looking pretty low. You should definitely check in with a hematologist to be safe. It could end up being something totally minor and nothing to worry about, but it could also be something more serious like thrombocytopenia—especially if all your other lab results are coming back normal.
Did you get that referral for the hematology workup yet?👍

It could end up being something completely trivial—just a minor blip that doesn't really matter—but then again, it could be something more significant, like thrombocytopenia. Even if all your other lab results are sitting right within the normal range, it’s still worth getting checked out. Better safe than sorry, right?
Did you get that referral for the hematology workup yet? I was just thinking about it... everything seems to move at such a snail's pace sometimes, doesn't it?👍

I haven't yet, mostly because my doctor told me to just hang tight and come back in a week. I actually had some bloodwork done a little while ago and the levels were already looking pretty low then, but they seem to have dipped even further since. It’s a bit frustrating, honestly. Now she'll probably just send me in for more tests in seven days anyway... so, what can you do? Thanks for getting back to me, though. 🙂

I'm a 45-year-old male, 5'9", weighing about 205 lbs.
I asked my doctor for a routine blood panel just to check in on things, and here’s what came back.
(I'll only list the values that fell outside the normal range.)
MCHC ...........309 (320-345)
MPV...............11.3 (6.8-10.4)
Eosinophils(%).....0.46 (up to 0.43)
Lymphocytes ..........3.4 (1.19-3.35)

WBC Differential
RBC Morphology.........hypochromia+
Platelet Morphology.........anisocytosis+

Cholesterol......................8.7 (up to 5)
Triglycerides.....................2.56 (up to 1.7)
LDL..............................6.03 (up to 3)
The tricky part is that I actually feel great, aside from a nagging cough and some congestion I've been dealing with for two weeks now.
Is there something brewing under the surface here, or should I go back and get everything retested?
I would really appreciate some insight or advice from anyone with medical expertise.
Thanks in advance!

The thing is, I feel perfectly fine, except for this cough and congestion I've had for two weeks.
Could there be something underlying this, or should I have everything retested?
I would appreciate any thoughts or advice from medical professionals here.
Thanks in advance!

Your eosinophils are slightly elevated, which usually points toward an allergic reaction.
The high lymphocyte count suggests you might be fighting off a viral infection.
It doesn't seem too alarming given those symptoms—that likely explains the coughing and sneezing.
As for the morphology section in the white cell differential, if I understand correctly, it looks like some variation in cell size.🤷

However, your cholesterol and triglycerides are definitely high, which means you're carrying some extra weight.
You probably need to look into a diet or perhaps discuss lipid-lowering medication with your doctor.

I’d appreciate some insight on these lab results. Patient is a 24-year-old female, early follicular phase.
The values in parentheses are the reference ranges. Does anything stand out as unusual? I read somewhere that an ideal LH to FSH ratio should be closer to 1:1. My doctor suggested the lymphocyte and granulocyte ratio might point toward a minor cold, even though I haven't felt any symptoms.

e2 169 pmol/L (90.1-716)
FSH 5.9 U/L (3.5-12.5)
LH 3.5 U/L (2.4-12.6)
Progesterone 1.1 nmol/L (0.6-4.7)
Testosterone 2.6 nmol/L (0.22-2.9)
Cortisol 600 nmol/L (morning 171-536, afternoon 64-327)
TSH 3.71 mU/L (0.27-4.2)
T3 1.9 nmol/L (1.3-3.1)
T4 85 NMOL/L (66-181)
neutrophil granulocytes(%) 39 (50-75)
lymphocytes(%) 56 (20-46)

Is anyone even out there???

So, here’s the situation... I just had my blood work done this past Friday. I'm currently five months pregnant, so naturally, I'm obsessing over these results. My doctor at Mayo Clinic sent me back for more testing because my CRP was elevated last time—it was sitting at 15.5—but it's dropped down to 4.5 now. That part is fine, I suppose. But it's these specific numbers that have me completely spiraling:
WBC 11,7H
RBC 4,31
HGB 124
HCT 34,3L
MCV79,6L
MCH28,8
MCHC 362
PLT 221
LY 14,5L
MO 2,3
GR83,2H
RDW 16,7X
PCT 0,17
MPV 7,9
PDW 18,3H

ARE THESE NUMBERS EVEN NORMAL???

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what those slanted lines actually signify in a lab report (specifically from Quest Diagnostics)? I’d truly appreciate any insight you might have!

First off, this is a killer find. 👍
Urinalysis has two parts. First, there's the chemical side using those dipsticks. Then there's the microscopic part, which looks at the sediment. If that dipstick comes back clean, they don't even bother looking at the sediment. That's why those lines are down at the bottom of the report.

So—three weeks ago, I underwent surgery to remove benign breast tumors. Today, my pathology results finally arrived, and they’re a bit confusing. They list two different types: "d24," which apparently refers to a benign breast tumor, and something labeled "n60." Does anyone here actually know what that second one signifies?

That N60 stands for fibrocystic mastopathy—basically just some benign changes in the breast tissue. Nothing to worry about!
Wishing you all the best! 👍

Hello. Could someone perhaps give me a brief breakdown of what this X-ray report actually means?

L/S spine X-ray results:

Standard views of the lumbar spine show a mild left-sided scoliosis along with some signs of vertebral torsion.
The vertebral bodies themselves seem to have maintained their height, and the mineralization looks normal. However, the disc spaces at L4/5 and L5/S1 appear narrowed, with subchondral sclerosis on the endplates, which I assume is just an indication of degenerative disc disease.
Some overlying bowel gas is partially obscuring the clarity of the structural analysis.

Thanks in advance.

Can someone please just spare me the agony and make sense of these results? I am freaking out here😕!
protein/creatinine ratio.................. 1.782
creatinine (dU) ..........................8633 µmol/dL
creatinine coefficient.................... 125 µmol/24/kg
endogenous creatinine clearance....... 0.94ml/s/1.73m2
total protein (dU) .......................719mg /dL
protein/creatinine ....................... 736 mg/g
LAC .......................................3.69 R
Anti-dsDNA ...............................5 u/ml
ENA SCREEN............................... positive

Anti (ss-B/La)(Sm)(Sm/RNF)(Jo-1)(sc1-70)(histoni) and centromere antibodies are within normal limits

Cardiolipin antibody screen ........ negative
Cardiolipin antibody IgG class ....... greater than 100
Cardiolipin antibody IgM class ......5.79
ANF....................................... borderline

How bad is my kidney situation, and what can I actually do to help? I don't eat meat, just fish, but I go heavy on milk and dairy products. Should I switch to lactose-free and cut out the protein from fish too?🙄????
I have SLE and I'm currently on Plavix, Prednisone, and Tarceva.
I just got these labs done back in the States, but I'm living in Sweden now, so I'm stuck waiting another 20 days to see a specialist. Everything is backed up here—apparently, you only get an urgent appointment if you literally can't walk!
Thanks in advance!!!
