How to speed up my PC?

I am reaching out because my computer has slowed down significantly over the last two weeks. It takes an eternity just to boot up the system, and I can no longer enjoy listening to music because the audio sounds distorted, almost like a skipping record. 😠

Could this be caused by the large amount of music I have saved? Even though I still have over 60% of my disk space available, I am unsure if that matters. Regarding software, the only program I recently installed was Neo, but I have since uninstalled it.

Does anyone have any advice on how I might resolve this issue?

Run a full scan on your PC for viruses and spyware, because that’s most likely what's dragging your system down...

Just wipe everything out and give it two restarts.

The first one’s going to be a slog, but the second one should feel snappier.

Pro tip: before you go nuking anything, just create a new folder on your desktop and toss the contents of C:\WINDOWS\Superfetch in there. That way, if things go sideways—though they shouldn't—you can actually get your files back.

Run an antivirus scan on your machine—you might want to tweak your Windows XP settings a bit too:http://www.tweakxp.com/performance_tweaks.aspx

Running a disk defrag isn't exactly a bad move either.

Hmm... how should I go about that?😕 I currently use Norton, but should I run an additional scan on top of that? It stays active constantly, and every morning when I boot up my computer, it performs its initial scan and updates automatically.

I have removed all unnecessary programs, defragmented the hard drive, and attempted to use the msconfig tool (though I am not entirely certain if I executed those steps correctly, as I was a bit confused about which options to select after clicking)

Should I just deselect everything? I am honestly unsure what this setting actually does, and I would hate to uncheck something only to end up breaking the system...

I'd personally just kill off jusched and E_S4I0T1 (honestly, why bother with them?) but I'd probably leave ctfmon alone (🤔 unless that's also fair game to nix)

Which version of macOS are you running?? And when was it originally installed?

Windows XP Professional was installed a few years ago, perhaps slightly less than that. Why is this happening?
