David Price5 said:Any chance of an update coming down the pipeline? Maybe some way to tweak settings? Like, being able to hide all those useless options...

Look, the extension is staying this simple. I’ll be the first to admit I don't know enough about XUL to start messing with hiding specific links or throwing new ones in there.

The tech kids can handle that stuff, but if you guys really want me to include all the subreddits, just say the word. I'm down if you think it's a good call.

Personally, I'd prefer having the option to hide specific forums. There are some boards I just never visit. It would be much cleaner if we could pin our favorite forums to the top and move the profile settings below them.

Yeah, true enough... I mean, unless there's some kind of decent setup ready to go. πŸ‘

Sorry for bumping this thread, but I really need to pick someone's brain: is it possible to add some new subreddits to this extension?
We've had a few new subreddits pop up since this was first built, so I'm looking to update it. I’d also love to strip out some of the old options. Can I just patch this one up, or am I looking at building an entirely new extension from scratch...?

The current setup is fine as it stands, though I honestly think we’d benefit from including all the subforums in the view. It would also be a massive improvement if we had a "customize" option so users could actually decide for themselves what they want to see and what they don't. And, just to echo what David Price5 was saying, having the forums positioned above everything else would make much more sense.

Wait, how exactly? That’s what I want to know. If they didn't include an option to change it in the settings, is there some workaroundβ€”like, something you can do outside of Facebook?
I honestly have no clue how those Facebook extensions even work, so I haven't the slightest idea if that's even a possibility.

Right here you can find more detailed instructions on how to build extensions from scratch, though honestly, it’s much smarter to just repurpose one that already exists. You just download the extension manually, and since an xpi file is really just a standard archive, you can easily pop it open using WinZip. If you feel like diving into the guts of it, go for it...

If they’d just let us add a few more subforums, this place would actually be incredible...πŸ™

Which specific subforums are we talking about? Does anything else need changing?

I might play around with the settings over the next couple of days...

I'd suggest trying to build a way to customize the extension instead...the essentials should be:

-forums placed above these options
-a distinct and easy-to-find option to mark all posts as read

Add Adolescents and the moderator subforum...😬
And hey, let's move the PDFs above the options. Also, we could probably just scrap the "today's posts" button since we already have "new posts."

Do you have any idea when the next version will be released?

I’m bringing this back up just to make sure everyone remembers about this incredibly useful plug-in
I’d especially suggest checking out the version by kronerima πŸ‘

My apologies if I'm cluttering the server by reviving such an old thread 😳

Yeah, it does, though you’ll have to perform a tiny little hack to make it happen.

Just download the extension manually and crack it openβ€”since the extension is in an xpi format, it’s really just a standard archive that you can easily unzip using WinZip. Once you've got it open, you're going to find the install.rdf file, which is exactly what you need to pull up.

All your hard work involves swapping out the <em:maxVersion> tag from 2.0.0.* to 3.0.*
Basically, instead of seeing <em:maxVersion>2.0.0.*</em:maxVersion>, you want it to read <em:maxVersion>3.0.*</em:maxVersion>

And that's pretty much the whole ordeal. Just hit File > Save, refresh the archive, and toss the extension into your extensions folder, which is typically sitting right in C:\Program Files\Google Chrome or wherever else you decided to install Google Chrome.

Enjoy! πŸ™‚

Joseph Chavez7 said:Yes, though it requires a small tweak.

Manually download the extension and open it up (it’s an xpi file, which is just a standard archive you can unzip using WinZip). Once opened, look for the install.rdf file and open that.

All you have to do is change the <em:maxVersion> from 2.0.0.* to 3.0.*
So, instead of <em:maxVersion>2.0.0.*</em:maxVersion>, it should read <em:maxVersion>3.0.*</em:maxVersion>

That's all there is to it. Just click File > Save, update the archive, and move the extension into your extensions folderβ€”usually located in C:\Program Files\Google Chrome or wherever you installed the browser.

Enjoy! πŸ™‚

Thanks, πŸ˜‰ but I think I'll wait for the final version of Google Chrome.

It really doesn't matter if it was an RC1, an RC2, or the actual finished product. You aren't actually modifying Google Chrome itself; you're just tweaking the extension. It isn't going to work on the final version either unless you implement exactly what I laid out for you, or unless Costas pushes an update.
