So, my cycle is being a total pain this weekend and won't cooperate with my plans, though I’d rather not get into the specifics of why 😁

I know you can technically push things back using birth control pills, but from what I’ve gathered, you’re supposed to start taking them about 4 or 5 days before you actually want the delay to kick in. Since my period is due basically tomorrow or the day after, I’m wondering if there's even any point in starting them today? Would it even do anything at this stage?

For birth control hormones, you’re gonna need a prescription from a doctor first. Probably best to just go chat with them. As for those water sports though... good luck with that!πŸ™‚

Honestly, I don't have the energy to go just for that reason alone; it’s not really worth the hassle for me right now. 😁
Plus, I’ve already kind of established a habit of dropping in on her without an appointment, and that nurse there really doesn't take kindly to it.🀣

I’m pretty familiar with how to get those pills. Honestly, though, I've found that pharmacists at most local drugstores aren't exactly digging deep when they look over a prescription. In my experience, they've only really asked me follow-up questions maybe twice out of ten visits.

Just because of what? Because you're messing around with your hormones without any supervision?

Well, 😳 😬

I actually remember this one girl I used to knowβ€”she was a serious competitive athleteβ€”and whenever her cycle threatened to mess up a big competition day or something, she’d use this specific pill method to stay on track... honestly, though, my memory is a bit fuzzy on the exact timing of when you're supposed to start taking them for the technique to actually work.😬

Just use a tampon and be done with it.

Just keep talking, buddy.

Look, I said it this morning and I’ll say it again: we don't need doctors. People who can't even figure out their own symptoms end up crawling onto forums, just guessing which meds to take...

I’m not totally sold on that method, but hey, at the end of the day, it’s your body 😳
it won't really kick in if you just start popping them a few days before your period hits, you actually have to start on the very first day of your cycle, keep going all month, and then when you hit that week where you're supposed to take a break, that's when you crack open a new pack.

As for what the lady 😬 at those pharmacies that don't bother asking for a prescription said... it isn't even about them being super thorough or anything, they just hand the pills out, especially to younger girls, mostly because it saves them from having to deal with everyone coming back later for the emergency contraceptive... I've had several people tell me that's how it works...

As for those pharmacists 😬 at the local CVS locations that don't ask for a prescriptionβ€”it isn't necessarily about being extra thorough or anything. They tend to hand them out, especially to younger women, mostly because it saves them the headache of dealing with people coming back later asking for the "morning-after pill." I've actually had several people tell me that's how it works.

Wait, hold onβ€”so if I’m reading this right, you haven't even taken any yet?
If that's really the case, I honestly don't believe you'll be able to stop the bleeding once you pop that first pill. There's a massive chance the spotting will just drag on. From what I understand, this stuff only really stabilizes once your body has already adjusted to the hormone. If you're in that situation, you wouldn't even bother with a seven-day break; you'd just crack open the next pack immediately and keep going. πŸ™‚

If that’s the case, I honestly don't think you'll be able to stop the bleeding once you crack open that first pack. There's a real chance the spotting might even drag on longer than expected. From what I understand, that trick only really works if your body is already used to having the hormones in its system. In those cases, instead of doing the usual seven-day break, you just skip the placebo week entirely and start the next pack immediately. πŸ™‚

I did take them for a while, but I stopped about a year ago. I went for a full blood panel back then and everything came back perfectly normal. I’ve never actually tried skipping the break to start a new pack right away, though I know people say it works.

I basically started this thread just to see if anyone else here had experimented with that kind of move. 😁 Honestly, I'm a bit puzzledβ€”if it's possible to just take a few extra pills to cover a "day after" scenario, why is everyone acting like it's such a massive crisis? It doesn't feel like it would cause major damage to your system... I mean, sure, I know it's not ideal and it's better to avoid messing with the cycle if you can help it, but I just don't quite get the panic. 😬

It doesn't feel like it would be *that* devastating for your body... I mean, sure, I know it's not great for you and you'd rather avoid it altogether, but I just don't get the massive panic 😬

I mean, yeah, it's bad to wake up every morning feeling like you might have messed up. 😁 It's risky. Like, really risky. 😬

Jokes aside, look, it’s definitely not the healthiest move in the world, but if you do it once, you aren't going to face some massive catastrophe.
In my seven years, I've only done it twice. I'm still standing, and my reproductive system is perfectly intact. 😁😁
Just... seriously, don't let it become a habit. πŸ˜‰

I remember trying that exact same thing back when I was maybe fifteen or sixteen, just hanging out at the beach for summer break... I started taking them about seven days before my period was supposed to hit, and everything went totally normal, like nothing even happened...

And I can see you're looking at all this stuff like it’s pretty much harmless... between the birth control and the "morning after" options and everything else. Just please, don't go playing around too much with that side of things...
