Those breakouts she supposedly "cleared up" are most likely a symptom of PCOS—polycystic ovary syndrome, if we're being technical (and there’s actually an entire dedicated thread on that topic if you care to look). If that’s what she’s dealing with, it isn’t just going to vanish; it’s a chronic condition that you essentially just manage through lifestyle adjustments—like diet and such—or by using birth control until she’s ready to get pregnant. Stress plays a role, I suppose, but there are plenty of other factors at play here too.

Usually, this manifests as missed periods or just incredibly irregular, prolonged cycles—you know, the kind where they're perpetually late. Honestly, she should probably head back to her OB-GYN for another ultrasound to check her ovaries, but she also needs to rule out things like endometriosis and probably get some hormone blood work done. Most likely, once they see the pattern of constant irregularities, they'll suggest hormonal therapy—basically birth control pills. While she's on them, her cycles should stabilize. So, as far as pregnancy goes, that doesn't seem to be the issue here.

My flow is pretty light. It lasts about three days. Maybe four at most. The first couple of days are totally fine, but by day three, I deal with such a massive flood that no pad can actually handle it. It stays like that for a few hours, and I basically have to stay in bed just to change my pad constantly.
Once that surge passes, the bleeding almost completely stops!🙏 There’s barely a drop left. It’s wild. Right after that crazy flood, everything just ends. And that’s it for the month!😕 🤷

I’m the same way—on day three, I can't even leave the house without worrying about leaking, and last time I even had some spotting. Ginićka mentioned it might be because my uterine lining is thickening too much. Usually, my period is much heavier and lasts seven days.

I'm 15 years old, and I had my first period when I was 13. For about six months after that, it seemed to come every month. But since then, I've only had about two periods a year. Is this normal?

That isn't exactly normal. Sure, some girls take a while for their cycles to stabilize, but this sounds off. If I were you, I’d go see a doctor. You might not get a full exam if you're a virgin, but they can at least run blood work to check your hormone levels.

Kimberly White63 said:Same here—I haven't even been allowed to step foot outside my house for three days, and last time I had what looked like actual stretch marks. My doctor mentioned it might be due to some crazy endometrial overgrowth. Just for context, my periods are always heavy and drag on for about seven days.

Honestly, at this rate, it’s gonna be a hormonal imbalance... and I am definitely not looking to start messing with hormones.😢

Same here. And I can't touch hormone treatments because of my thyroid issues.

Alright, I have a question for this thread too 🙂.

So, my period started when I was 10, and from then until now (I'm 24), everything has been perfectly regular and normal. But over the last few months, the blood looks different—it’s somehow lighter and thinner 🤷. Everything else remains the same; it lasts for 5 days, the intensity hasn't changed, it comes every 28 plus or minus 2 days, and it usually isn't painful...

Anything to worry about?

So how exactly are you "dealing" with it? Besides being housebound—which sounds miserable—is there seriously nothing else that can be done? (Assuming we're ruling out hormones, obviously)

Hey everyone,
So, here’s the deal. I’ve been on Trek birth control for about 13 or 14 months now. Honestly? They haven't been my favorite—kind of a mixed bag for me. I’m down to my last pack, so I decided it was finally time to quit. My second-to-last period was four days late, which felt totally normal. But this time, things went sideways—I started bleeding seven days early! It caught me completely off guard. I was feeling pretty weird too, dealing with typical PMS stuff like sore breasts, but I just chalked it up to the pills. Anyway, I finished my third (and final) pack before taking my break and starting my period on Monday. For the first two days, it was just brown spotting and the usual stomach cramps. By day three, it turned red but was a bit lighter, then by day four it was tapering off, and by day six it basically stopped and went back to being brown.
I’m low-key freaking out because I’m terrified this might be a sign of pregnancy. Should I even bother taking a test? Since this was my last pack, I went ahead and stopped taking the pills immediately once my period started on Tuesday.
Now I’m just sitting here wondering what's going on. The symptoms are gone, except for those random, weird little feelings where I can't even tell if I'm imagining things or not.
We mostly used condoms and always made sure to "pull out in time," so I don't even know if getting pregnant is actually possible while on the pill. Plus, I was super disciplined and took them at the exact same time every single day.
Thanks!

I’m using evening primrose oil plus Vitamin E, along with an herbal blend of angelica, valerian, elderberry, calendula, and chamomile. Plus, I'm doing hormone-balancing exercises.

Which exercises are we talking about here? Please, give us a little hint—some of us dealing with PCOS could really use the guidance.

Is any of that actually working for you?

I can't touch hormone treatments, Ryan Gomez4. It’s not just the thyroid issue; it’s this other autoimmune thing I have. My immunologist told me there was absolutely no way I should be taking birth control pills.

Yoga—specifically that Scorpion complex. Here’s the link

Honestly, I totally fixed my thyroid issues (well, at least it's acting normal now) just by doing yoga.

Ryan Gomez44 can't even take hormones, and not just because of the thyroid, but because of that other autoimmune issue. My immunologist told me there's no way I should be on birth control pills.

I know, that's why I don't take them. I finally got my thyroid under control, and I don't need it going haywire again. As for whether it helps, I'll find out during my next cycle. Wish me luck.

Um, I studied Cyrillic back in school, but I’m nowhere near proficient enough to actually make sense of everything being written here. Is there perhaps a version available in the Latin alphabet? 😁

No, but I can send you links to some videos where an instructor walks through the drills. If you get stuck, just shoot me a DM. Or, if you're heading out to California soon, I can show you the ropes in person.

I’ve finally decided to jump into this forum—it seems like a pretty useful little corner of the internet. I’m personally hoping this becomes a valuable resource for women navigating the chaos of shifting hormones. Thanks a million for setting this up. As for anything else, let’s just move to private messages so we don't clutter the main threads with off-topic chatter. 🙂
P.S. :If I ever find myself heading out toward the Hamptons, I’ll be sure to reach out. 😉

Hey there—first off, a quick shout-out to all the ladies on this forum and anyone else willing to lend a hand if you actually have a clue about this stuff.

I’m posting this on behalf of my girlfriend. She’s currently stuck in the hospital recovering from ear surgery, dealing with dressings and all that fun stuff.

So, here’s the situation: about two weeks ago—maybe even less—she was due for her period. She’s been under massive stress lately because of school; she's been grinding constantly, studying her head off just to get through the semester. She told me how absolutely draining it’s been. Then, she goes in for surgery and gets hit with everything from injections and pills to suppositories. Throw anesthesia and surgical stress into the mix, and she’s been laying there for four days... and today, she tells me her period just showed up. (Wait, what?!) Normally her cycle is early, but never *this* early. Realistically, she shouldn't be seeing this for another two weeks, so I'm having a hard time believing it's just a coincidence. My main question is: can stress cause bleeding this early? Or could it be the local meds, the shots, the suppositories, or any of those other little things they gave her?

To make matters even more stressful, we’re both freaking out over a specific symptom called "implantation bleeding"—which just happens to be about eight days after we had sex. And well, we all know what that implies. We had sex a few days after her last period, which would be about a week before the surgery. We used a condom, and honestly, I didn't even finish inside her—I pulled out regardless of the protection. After that, we waited about 15-20 minutes, but unfortunately, we were out of condoms. Everything had dried up on my penis anyway, so I wiped it down with a wet wipe. We tried again (it was very brief), and once again, I didn't finish at all.

She texted me today, and we are both genuinely terrified. We’re spiraling here and don't know what to do. Is this bleeding (which she thinks is her period) just a result of the stress and the medical stuff, or is it that terrifying possibility we're both dreading? Who should we talk to? What are our next steps? Please, if anyone knows anything, help us out. Thanks in advance to everyone.

It’s entirely possible that this is just a standard period—especially if the flow is as heavy as her usual monthly cycle. If we're talking about mere spotting, or maybe some light brown discharge, then implantation bleeding is a possibility; though, I suppose it doesn't have to be that. A fair amount of similar symptoms tend to pop up during an anovulatory cycle—basically a cycle where ovulation doesn't actually occur—particularly when the discharge shows up as brown.
I suspect this recent bout of stress might have played a role here; and since her cycle hasn't exactly been running like a Swiss watch lately, there could be some minor hormonal imbalance at play as well.
As for the actual possibility of pregnancy, there is always a chance regardless of any precautions taken, but she really shouldn't bother with a test until the day her period is due (or even slightly after)—meaning, at least two weeks after the encounter in question.

Thanks for getting back to me—we’ve definitely pieced a few things together since we last spoke. She told me last night she was dealing with some absolutely brutal cramps, and apparently, it's pretty much the same kind of thing she deals with during her period. So, can I finally breathe easy now?
