There are plenty of decent omega-3 tablets out there made from 30% purified fish oil, but I know exactly why I’m looking for the 60% stuff. Honestly, if I don't know the specific percentage, then I don't see much point in us even discussing it.👋

I ran into a buddy of mine who’s currently living the zone lifestyle, and he was telling me it's hands down the best thing he's ever tried. He claims he’s getting by on just four hours of sleep, yet he's bursting with energy—learning faster, working better, and crushing his workouts. His only gripe is that sometimes he just can't be bothered to cook his own meals, but he insists it's absolutely worth the effort. Since I've had this book sitting on my shelf for ages, and since I won't have much else going on this summer besides studying all day, I figured it's the perfect time to see if all this hype is actually legit.
Has anyone here actually tried living the zone way? What has your experience been like?

How much does nutrition in zone actually boost your energy levels—enough to let you sleep less while getting more work or studying done? Is the difference really that noticeable?

I don't know much about it myself yet; I really need to sit down and read the book first. Apparently, it's an excellent nutrition system. Everyone in that linked thread seems focused solely on weight loss, but I assume there are other benefits to nutrition in zone besides just dropping pounds.

Hey everyone, I was wondering if there are any fellow Zoners here who’d be open to swapping some stories?

Lately, it seems like everybody is suddenly obsessed with this UN diet, so if anyone here is currently practicing nutrition in zone or has given it a shot...

For what it's worth, I've been in the zone for two weeks now and honestly, I couldn't be happier with the results.🙂

Well, here I am! 🙂

I’ve been following this general principle for nearly a year and a half now. To be perfectly honest, I don't stick to the "nutrition in zone" guidelines down to every single detail—one particular meal, usually the one right after my workout, tends to drift away from the zone, but everything else stays pretty much on track. I don't even bother with the strict calorie restrictions that the zone typically demands; in fact, I actually eat quite a bit more than that. And honestly? I feel absolutely phenomenal. For the last four months, I’ve specifically transitioned into the Omega RX zone, which is essentially the standard zone setup but with the addition of a higher dose of PhG fish oil. 👍

Oh, great....

Quick question....which fish oil are you taking? What brand? I picked up some Natural Wealth...so I'm wondering if that's actually any good, or if there’s a better one you’d recommend?

How much weight have you managed to drop so far?

I'm honestly thrilled. When you stick to nutrition in zone, the mental clarity is just incredible.....I simply have so much more energy and drive...

What kind of progress have you noticed regarding your weight?

I am quite pleased myself; when you stick to nutrition in zone, the mental focus is truly fantastic.....I simply find I have so much more energy and drive...

Of course, there are better options. 😉 Natural Wealth is a health food grade fish oil, and one single capsule only provides 0.3 g of active ingredients (180 mg EPA and 120 mg DHA). If you were hoping to reach a maintenance dose (2.5 g of EPA + DHA), you would have to swallow at least 8 of those capsules every single day. However, taking that many capsules would likely cause more harm than good. That is why "Omega RX in the zone" necessitates using a fish oil of pharmaceutical grade purity (meaning it has been thoroughly purified of toxins like PCBs, DDT, and organic mercury compounds).
The most budget-friendly option I managed to track down, which I personally use, is this one: http://www.wonderlabs.com/itemleft.php?itemnum=5442 I take 6 capsules daily, which brings me to 3 g of active ingredients (1800 mg EPA and 1200 mg DHA).
There is also this reasonably priced choice: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/pbl/omega.html.
The most vital thing is ensuring it carries the pharmaceutical grade (PhG) label.

As for me, I am actually gaining weight, which is precisely my intention. Nevertheless, my body fat has definitely decreased. The zone requires calorie restriction—around 1500 kcal per day—yet I end up consuming at least 3000 kcal daily. I eat seven meals a day, and every single one is "in the zone," except for that one meal after my workout when I intentionally "provoke" my insulin. On days when I don't exercise, I don't do that. I consume a mountain of vegetables every day, but in exchange, there are absolutely no starchy foods in my diet.👍

but listen, nutrition in zone doesn't mean you have to restrict calories 😕 it all boils down to how much you're working out. The more you train, the more fuel you need. I was super strict about the Zone six years ago, but I eventually quit because I felt like I was eating way too much food. These days, I just follow the 40-30-30 split more or less... but I don't count a single calorie. Honestly, I never even bothered! I have this cookbook where everything is broken down by blocks, which makes it a total breeze. You aren't chasing a specific calorie number; you're hitting a certain amount of blocks, which depends on your workouts, muscle mass, and all that. I take my Omega-3 from Enerzon. I don't touch fish oil—I stick to olive oil instead.

And I don't even get what you mean by intentionally spiking your insulin😁

Thanks, Steven Green2. So, I guess I could take at least four of these a day until I can track down something higher quality...

I really ought to do some digging into what our local pharmacies have in stock...

fadedhound69 said:And I still can't quite wrap my head around this little game you're playing—this intentional insulin spiking of yours. Is it really necessary? 😁

A true recovery meal is defined by what you eat immediately following a workout—specifically, fast-digesting proteins like whey paired with rapid-fire carbs such as glucose, rice cakes, or corn flakes. You can pick up glucose at a local CVS if you need it. $3.75 500g—enough to be significant, or just enough to be a problem?

While every meal carries its own weight—they all matter, after all—there is one that stands apart from the rest. Post-workout meal—because apparently, that’s where the magic happens? Post-workout window—when muscle protein synthesis jumps by a staggering 50%—really demands some strategic thinking regarding that post-training meal. Wouldn't it make sense to opt for something liquid, like a blend of whey protein and maltodextrin? It bypasses the whole digestive slog and hits the bloodstream in about 30 minutes—unlike solid food, which can take three hours or more just to clear the stomach before absorption even begins.

😉

By the way—nutrition in zone only really started clicking for me once I doubled my daily intake—way beyond what’s actually recommended—whereas for my girlfriend, even ten blocks a day is way too much.

@Morgan Wright/">@@Morgan Wright This guy said he’s intentionally spiking his insulin by eating meals that aren't in the Zone... but I've been reading Dr. Barry Searle's books and I haven't seen anything about needing to trigger insulin anywhere!
I used to drink those Enerzon protein shakes after my workouts (the powder you just mix with water or milk)

And honestly, I quit that specific diet too because it was just way too much work, but I've stuck to Zone-style eating for years now.

fadedhound69 said:@Morgan Wright/">@@Morgan Wright mentioned he’s intentionally spiking his insulin with a non-zone meal...

Well, yeah—that's the "cheat" meal, right?
I assume he's just slamming about 40 grams of fructose and a scoop of whey.

It goes against everything Searle's taught us, but if he insists on having 🙂 that specific meal, he can't afford to skip it.

The chart is in the book; my trainer printed a copy for me, so if I find a spare moment, I'll scan it and send it over.
