I just picked up a few tracks from Red Snapper, and honestly, they are absolutely fantastic!

Funkster already posted a brilliant definition of trip-hop in another thread🙏🙏

I think Lamb is fantastic🙏

Plus, I'm a huge fan of Hooverphonic 🙏 😍

Just thought I'd share that for context

Red Snapper really hits different at night. They had that massive hit, image of you, which turned out to be a pretty solid remix...

even if the results are a bit weird (U2???? what an insult...)

Björk, Howie B, Sneaker Pimps, DJ Krush, Coldcut... maybe Sofa Surfers...

unmentioned

Radiohead - The Velvet Underground
they used to be this super raw black metal outfit once 😬back in the day

Portishead - I'm honestly not sure which album I'd suggest
their first one has all the big hits, but for me, the female vocals feel a bit too sugary sweet
the rest aren't quite hitting the mark and they've got these pretty average male vocals instead

Nancy Sinatra - Songs in the Key of Life with Mike Patton
his Peeping taj project is sort of in that same vein, though it's definitely weirder and more experimental

sneaker what? 🤣

It’s not strictly trip hop, just a bit of an evolution of the genre and those breakbeats... solid album, though. A newer sound from Coldplay, a little more mellow, a little brighter.

Hands down the best trip hop band. If we're talking albums, "Splinter" is definitely the winner—way better than the debut, even if Kelly Dayton really shined on 'Spin Spin Sugar'.

I have all of those, though I think I might have some Trent Reznor and Björk 👍 tucked away somewhere deep in my collection...

anyone else know any other bands playing that kind of style?

there's actually a ton of it... lately I've been deep in the trip-hop rabbit hole...
you basically have your holy trinity
Radiohead - Trent Reznor
Tricky - Björk
Portishead - Björk

besides those, there's plenty of other stuff out there...
- pretty much anything from Radiohead (Blue Lines, Protection, No Protection—those remixes are killer, Mezzanine, 100th Window—maybe a bit weaker, Danny the Dog soundtrack, Collected—just some B-sides and whatnot)... they might be dropping something called "Weather Underground" or whatever at the end of the year
- Tricky - he's that guy who features on a lot of Radiohead tracks, besides his first "Maxinquaye" and "Blowback," I haven't dug too deep into him, but those two are top-tier, especially the first one
- Portishead - man, what can I even say... way deeper and more depressing than anything else, but absolutely incredible—check out their self-titled "Portishead" among others... they've got "Alien" coming out soon

for the slightly less mainstream stuff
- Goldfrapp - they blew up recently after their third album and that massive hit "Oh La La," but personally, I dig "Black Cherry" and "Felt Mountain" more
- Lamb - that's like trip-hop mixed with a heavy dose of drum'n'bass, interesting at first glance but they lost me a little later on—still, listen to everything they've done because it all fits together this specific vibe... they're known for hits like "Gabriel" and "Gorecki"
- Air - "Moon Safari" is mandatory listening if you're looking for anything to chill to
- Archive - the "Londinium" album is a total hidden gem in the trip-hop scene, haven't touched the rest of them but it doesn't feel quite as strictly trip-hop (though honestly, they're amazing)
- Hooverphonic - man, why did it take me this long to hear them?!? mostly famous for that first album "A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular"—it's full of hits and they do a lot of film scoring too... their latest "No More Sweet Music" is solid, haven't heard the rest
- Royksopp - the "Melody AM" album sounds like it's from another planet entirely
- Sneaker Pimps - listened to "Splinter" and was just speechless. 🙏
- Thievery Corporation - similar to the chillout stuff, but still an absolute vibe

so yeah, you've got plenty to work with, check out Zero 7 or Earthling - Radar and you'll find more... there's a whole world there...

If Air and Royksopp are "underrated," then I must be the Pope.

I’d also throw in Kid Loco - A Grand Love Story.
A total masterpiece.

And here I thought I was the only one. Honestly? They're pretty terrible. But man, I have one of their live sets—now *that* is something else. Truly impressive stuff.

Thievery Corporation just bores me; feels a bit too pretentious, doesn't it?

Kid Loco might have a gem or two scattered around somewhere.

Thievery Corporation is just boring to me... kind of pretentious, if we're being real.

Kid Loco might have a gem or two sprinkled in there now and then, I guess.

aha, yeah, Thievery feels more like background noise for some lounge at a club in South Beach or whatever... but still, they definitely ripped off that track for that mattress commercial or something... anyway, Radiohead are top-tier. Their live shows are insane—is there a DVD or something out there?

Alright, alright—maybe I didn't phrase that quite right... 🙂

Totally forgot to mention DJ Shadow... he's definitely cool too.

The undisputed king of sampling.

Nobody—and I mean absolutely nobody—has come close.

The Avalanches and Go! Team came near, but they lost their luster quickly.
"Entroducing..." still sounds incredible even today.

Anyway, Hooverphonic are great. What’s their live show like? Is it an EDM set or what?

Concert with KIIS FM🙏
