Radiohead sucks

Honestly, whenever it comes to musicians, I’ve always absolutely hated that condescending, "this is beneath me" attitude people take right out of the gate. Maybe it’s because I feel like loving music is all about actually identifying with it—not just vibing with some watered-down, mediocre stuff. To me, if you actually take your life seriously, trying to claim an affinity for something that's being labeled as "inferior" is just... I don't know, kind of pointless? It feels totally disconnected from who you are.

That’s exactly my point! You can't just listen to ten tracks on MTV and think you've totally cracked their musical soul—it's just not how it works! It's like me trying to understand Picasso's whole vibe based on maybe ten of his million different paintings. Totally impossible, right?

They aren't bad to me. And look, I'm basically an expert when it comes to music...

Why? Honestly, those ten tracks give you plenty of insight... if you hate all ten, there's no point in grinding through their entire discography anyway.

So how exactly are you supposed to "get" someone's music?

Well, it's because singles are usually picked specifically because they're the most radio-friendly hits. I honestly think someone should sit down and listen to at least one full album from their early era and one from their later period just to get the complete picture. To be fair, I didn't have a particularly high opinion of Radiohead either, until I finally listened to > and > in their entirety...

I tried listening to Kid A all the way through... even bought the original vinyl... and yeah, I did it, but it just wasn't hitting for me. I wanted to love it so bad, but it just wouldn't happen.
For a few years, I actually pretended the album didn't even exist. Now? It’s like my adopted kid.
Man, I've been through it all.
But hey, people sacrifice things for love. 🙂 😁

Everyone keeps trying to compare them to Muse. I’ve been spinning Origin of Symmetry which absolutely crushes, and a few Radiohead tracks that are pure depression—Creep, Karma Police, stuff like that—and I just don't see the connection. It's like, Muse is fast and high energy, while Radiohead is just... wailing... 😁

Lesson learned: don't just buy CDs blindly. I've been trying to sell Bad Religion's "The New America" for a year now and absolutely nobody wants it. God damn. Someone please just buy this CD!🙂

Radiohead went from "Creep"—meaning the "Pablo Honey" era—to "The Bands," and then they dropped "OK Computer." At that point, I genuinely thought, alright, the logical next move is a collaboration with Pavarotti or some experimental cover of "Do They Know It's Eid al-Fitr?" But instead, the guys pivoted and recorded "Kid A." During that first listen, I didn't even try to hide my excitement. I told myself, screw Pavarotti, this is just Radiohead's version of "Candy Apple Gray" or "Goo," or perhaps what will eventually become something like "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" a few years down the line. However, by the second listen, that initial rush completely evaporated. Just vanished. I have no idea what happened there. Anyway, since then, I haven't bought a single Radiohead album, nor have I ever popped their old stuff into my player. Okay, fine, I'll admit I occasionally throw on "Idioteque." All things considered—Radiohead rules.

Seriously, though, "Bohemian Rhapsody"... It just starts with sobbing and ends with sobbing. Just constant sobbing. And the whole track is basically built for sobbing. It's so overwhelming that all I can remember is the sobbing at the start and the sobbing at the end.

Am I gonna get banned for this? 🙄

I absolutely love the song Pyramid for several different reasons. First off, it’s the lyrics. I’m not going to sit here and quote Thom Yorke for you—do yourselves a favor and actually look up the lyrics online. Second, the music video is just incredible; it’s totally badass. Third, there's that strange instrument that makes such an unusual, wailing sound. And fourth, there’s that simple piano riff—one that even I managed to pick up and play in Kellogg's loops.

The Glass House is honestly a pretty depressing piece of work. I enjoy playing those chords on my guitar every now and then, though I rarely listen to the track itself. It sounds great live at a Jools Holland concert (or Holland, or whatever the hell his name is 🙂
).
Muse is a fantastic band, though it’s a shame their best album is basically a total carbon copy of Radiohead's The Bends. That said, Muse's frontman is a genuinely nice guy.

I can't stand Muse. It honestly drives me crazy when they get brought up in a thread about Radiohead. I'm not saying I'm a snob, but I am a snob. 😬

Obviously... they drop some easy listening stuff that hits people on the first listen to reel them in. It's not like they're gonna release Myxomatosis as a single. But you still get some kind of insight, and it's good enough to figure out if you like them enough to dig deeper or if you'd rather just steer clear.

It really bugs me when people start lecturing anyone who says they don't like Radiohead, acting like they just haven't listened closely enough. Why should I force myself to listen intently to something that repels me from the very first note? How many Manic Street Preachers albums would I need to sit through to decide they aren't my vibe? I don't care if some fanatic thinks I "don't get it"... I just don't, end of story. And how many Britney Spears albums did you guys have to slog through before deciding she was trash? 😬

Well, for me, they actually amplify whatever mood I'm in... when I'm happy, they make me even happier, and when I'm down, they lean into it in a way that actually works for me. That’s basically how it is with all the bands I love. 🙂
