He smokes 7 or 8 joints a day, but then picks up heroin once every week or two if he feels like it. The issue is that his relationship with certain family members is strained; if I call him out, he might distance himself even further or freeze me out entirely. I even suggested he ditch that crowd, but the guy just labels you crazy—he claims he can quit whenever he decides to. Honestly, I'm afraid to push because, by his own admission, he hasn't really worked in the last year. He's spiraling, sinking fast.
Well, he’s practically a grown man at this point. It’s hard for parents to do much more when the individual is fully aware of their actions. This isn't some teenage whim or experimentation with drugs... My advice? Unless you are directly in danger—meaning you aren't an immediate next-of-kin like a brother or something—just let things play out. People often try to help and end up looking like fools in the process. We are talking about an adult who is clearly still living in a fantasy land; until he actually hits the ground, there isn't much point in interfering too much. You should be ready to help, certainly, but only once he decides he wants to help himself. Because if someone won't help themselves, how can anyone else?.. He’s in that awkward age bracket between youth and actual maturity—where today he thinks lighting up a joint makes him look cool, but tomorrow it might just be a source of pure shame...
I don't know what else to add; I thought we were talking about someone younger... Don't try to force anything, or you'll only make matters worse. Just stay close, and if he falls into an abyss, reach out a hand—provided you think he's worth it. Time will settle everything, and it will eventually show that you were right...
As for smoking 6 or 7 joints a day—that is already catastrophic, let alone the heroin (which probably isn't even pure to begin with)...
This is heavy stuff; it’s a battle against the darkest part of the Devil. But, as usually happens, the person sees no problem at all—they claim they can stop whenever they want. That’s just arrogance. A person who is truly honest and humble with themselves will find a way to resolve such an issue much sooner...
