I’ve been dealing with this exact same thing for two months now, and honestly, it still hasn't fully cleared up. I don't really know what to tell you, but I guess you should just finish whatever medical treatment they gave you. If things don't improve, maybe ask your doctor for a referral to a pulmonologist. Good luck.
p.s. For me, the only thing that actually helped was some Iceland Moss syrup.

Hey, mrpink! If you're genetically predisposed to this, no amount of medication is going to act as a magic bullet; it’s simply a matter of constant management. I say this from experience, having lived with bronchial asthma since '97. You can't exactly shield yourself from the world—nobody lives their life under a glass dome. I don't know if you smoke, but if you do, you really ought to quit as soon as possible because those two things just don't mix. I carry an inhaler, though I only find myself reaching for it a few times a year when the seasons shift and that suffocating, relentless cough kicks in; otherwise, I'm usually fine. Aesop made a solid point, though—if these issues persist, you're going to need to see a pulmonologist. They'll likely want to run a spirometry test on you. God, I hope I haven't scared you off too much. Good luck; hopefully, you won't have to deal with bronchitis ever again.😉

So here I am. First time dealing with bronchitis, and I don't even smoke. Now I'm just sitting here wondering what the hell is going on.

I was such an idiot. Three days ago, my mom offered to take me to a specialist appointment—she’s a doctor herself, so she said I could skip the waiting room and just walk right in. No hassle, right? But I was too much of a coward to go. I’ve got a deviated septum, and honestly, the whole idea of them shoving two massive sticks up my nose sounds terrifying. To make matters worse, this damn allergy is making everything itch like crazy!

It’s been nearly three weeks now and I am still being absolutely hammered by this cold and bronchitis—just constant coughing and hacking. I’ve already cycled through three different antibiotics, and honestly, nothing seems to be working at all.
Does anyone actually know how to get rid of this thing? Any advice would be appreciated.

Anyone in your family deal with asthma or atopic dermatitis?
Are you allergic to pollen or dust? You smoke?

What’s the word from your doctor? Asthma? Sinus issues causing postnasal drip? COPD?...

My doctor keeps telling me it’s just a common cold that turned into bronchitis—which, I suppose, might be true—but I know my immune system is basically non-existent right now because of the corticosteroids I’m taking for this autoimmune condition. So, on top of everything else, I've got this... and it's just exhausting. Does anyone actually have any experience with natural remedies? Maybe some herbal capsules or something that actually works?

Antibiotics didn't do much because, honestly, you can't fix bronchitis with them. It just means your bronchial tubes are extra sensitive right now, and dealing with the aftermath of a virus always takes way longer than people think... Just try to stay away from that cold, dry air if you can. Drink tons of fluids, too. Some people swear by honey or those standard cough syrups... personally, I found this thyme-based syrup that worked wonders for me, though I can't for the life of me remember what brand it was.

It sounds like your bronchial tubes are just extra sensitive right now, and recovery from a virus can drag on quite a bit longer than people expect. I'd suggest staying away from cold, dry air if you can help it, and making sure you stay hydrated. So, where am I even supposed to find that thyme syrup??
I've tried everything—teas, honey, you name it—and absolutely nothing has worked.

How much longer does this bronchitis actually last? I’ve been dealing with it for three weeks now—and despite trying two different courses of antibiotics, I haven't seen any improvement whatsoever.😠

Look, you’ve got it all wrong. There are actual, clear-cut medical guidelines about when you should even bother with antibiotics for bronchitis, and let me tell you—you don't fit that criteria. I’m guessing you’re around 25? Yeah, definitely not. The reality is that 95% of these cases are viral. Even in those instances where there's a bacterial overlap, antibiotics aren't the answer unless we're talking about someone with serious chronic health issues. Most studies show that taking them only shaves maybe a day or two off the illness, but the side effects? They're everywhere. So, in plain English: it's just not worth it. And yet, here you are, walking away with two prescriptions. Honestly... give my regards to whoever thought that was a smart move.😉

Well, honestly, how is anyone even supposed to get through this without antibiotics? It’s getting ridiculous—I’ve already missed three days of work because of this

Having dealt with bronchial asthma since I was a kid, I know exactly what you're all going through.....
There is no permanent cure; there are only preventative measures. No amount of syrups or antibiotics is going to fix this once and for all—they just take the edge off....
Since I’ve lived through it all, my advice is to head out to Newport, Rhode Island, this spring. It’s the best place to let your bronchi repair themselves (as much as that's even possible) while walking through those pine forests....
That’s about it from me...
Oh, one more thing: try a spoonful of honey mixed with horseradish. It helps settle the cough.

Best,

Is it actually possible to run a persistent low-grade fever—say, around 99.5°F—alongside bronchitis?

It’s entirely possible if there is some lung involvement. Get to a doctor immediately and make sure you mention the fever.

Just picked it up at the pharmacy. It’s one of those flat bottles, dark glass... I think I still have it sitting around somewhere at my place, I'll have to go dig it out and check.

Is there any way to actually cure this for good, and if so, how?

I’ve been dealing with this since I was a little kid—it used to flare up every once in a while, but over the last two or three years, it’s been happening much more frequently... probably due to all these crazy weather shifts we've been having lately. I’m 19 right now... I’ve never really relied on any medications... and honestly, I don't catch many bugs; maybe just a couple of colds or flus a year? But man, this thing is starting to get to me mentally—it's incredibly frustrating. I went to see a doctor once, but they didn't prescribe anything specific; they just gave me some cough syrup, which seemed to stabilize things for a bit. After that, I used an Albuterol inhaler for about fifteen days or so. I even went through blood tests to check for allergies, and every single one came back negative. I remember reading somewhere that this kind of thing often clears up around age 25, since that's when most people have finished their physical development... so, I’d love to hear what your experiences have been like.

Have you ever had a chest X-ray done? I’m curious what your results looked like.
