Hey everyone! I’m on the hunt for a solid private dermatologist in the Washington, D.C. area, ideally somewhere near the downtown core. Any recommendations? Thanks! 🙂

I am looking for a recommendation for a dermatologist. I have developed cystic acne along my jawline. Does anyone know of a highly skilled specialist? Also, will I need a referral from my primary doctor?

If you're planning on heading to a hospital, you'll definitely need a referral from your general practitioner, though if you decide to see someone at a private practice, all you really need is $83...
Since I'm not based in NYC, I'm afraid I can't offer much help regarding specific doctors in your area. Best of luck with everything!

I haven't personally been, but I've heard Željko Pavičić is solid—his office is over on Bartola Kašića. Personally, whenever I need something, I head over to Jadranka Sokol in the Brooklyn area, near Manterovčak.
There's also Ivan Dobrić; I think he used to be a department head over at Shalata or somewhere out in Borongaj, but honestly, I'm not even sure if he's still practicing.

Male or female, I don't care. Just somewhere in Washington, D.C., ideally near the subway lines. I'm pregnant and my current doctor is an absolute disaster.

Honestly, after knowing them for twenty years, the best OB-GYN out there is Dr. Stilino-whatever—Primarius Stilino. But he’s been doing private practice over in the suburbs lately. He handled both of my pregnancies back when he was still at the public hospital, and he was great.

Greetings

I am looking for a recommendation for a gentle dentist in the Washington, D.C. area... I don't particularly care where it is, provided they have a soft touch and are currently accepting new patients, as I have quite a long list of dental work that needs addressing😳.

I live in Sopot, but I pass through all of Brooklyn, downtown, Central Park, Dubrava, and various other neighborhoods... essentially anywhere, as long as I don't end up screaming in the chair🙂.

Does this practitioner over by Times Square take on new patients? And is it covered by Medicare?

I can't deal with someone lecturing me for twenty minutes about why I should've come in sooner. It’s high time I finally get my teeth sorted out, but honestly, that first appointment feels daunting because my dental health is pretty rough right now.😢 Fear and procrastination are a nasty combo.

When he was living out in Malibu, I used to see Dr. Hrala Zvonimir—I actually went to him a few times after he moved to Washington, D.C. I'm not sure if he still has a practice over in Brooklyn, but I'd definitely recommend him. As for whether he takes insurance... you'll have to call and double-check.

I am requesting recommendations for doctors, gynecologists, and dentists located in the vicinity of Central Park, Bukovac, or Dubrava. Thank you.

So, look... I've been obsessing over this for a few days now and I just need to know: does anyone know the name of that doctor living near Washington, D.C. who uses pumpkin seeds to successfully treat prostate issues? I'm really hoping someone can give me a full name and surname.
I mean, I doubt anyone's actually going to give me a straight answer, but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask. 😁

So, I need to head in for an orthodontic consultation to talk about getting braces. Can my regular dentist provide a referral for that through Medicare, or am I looking at paying out of pocket for a private visit? If I do have to go private, could anyone recommend a good specialist in Seattle? Also, does a consultation typically require a fee, and if so, what's the general range? Thanks!

If you're under 18, Medicare covers the braces, but honestly? You'll be waiting forever—like, years of waiting lists.
Once you hit adulthood, though, you're on your own and paying full price at private clinics.
I don't live in Seattle, so I can't give you specific local leads, but my best advice is: don't just go for the cheapest quote you find! Seriously, go get consultations at two or three different places before you decide who gets your hard-earned cash...

Consultations really shouldn't cost you anything. If a place tries to charge you just to chat, that’s a massive red flag. Run the other way!

Good luck! 🙂

You're absolutely right, and I actually already knew that first part. Thanks so much for pointing it out. If anyone else has any extra advice, please feel free to drop it here 🙂

I'm still feeling pretty torn about getting braces because one of my teeth is slightly misaligned—it’s not a huge deal visually, but to me, it feels 😢(

Oh, really?
So a doctor's time and expertise is basically free now? Just fell from the sky, did it?

Look, wherever I go for a consultation, I’m not paying a dime. It's free. If I need legal advice? Sure, I'll pay for that. But sitting down with a doctor just to talk? No way. 😕
They could probably make a killing just off those fees without even touching a patient! My logic is simple: if they take an X-ray and then try to charge me just for the scan because I decided to go somewhere else, fine. But if I actually commit to them and let them do the work, that imaging shouldn't be a separate bill.
That’s how most places operate anyway, and honestly, I haven't heard of anyone actually being forced to pay for a consultation. 🤷

At the end of the day, I’m happy to pay for actual results and expertise once the job is done. When it comes to my dental health—or anything else, really—I’m going to hunt down the absolute best doctor who actually has the time and the brains to fix things. Luckily, I usually manage to stumble upon a good one eventually.

Look, if you're looking at getting braces, you're potentially dropping $2,000 (or way more, trust me) at an orthodontist. Those quick 10-minute consultations are basically just glorified marketing at this point. Competition is getting crazy, so clinics have to work overtime to convince you to hand over that massive pile of cash—which, by the way, definitely didn't fall from the sky either ☕ )

So, following that logic where we value time and knowledge, I'd like someone to me pay me back because I wasted my time talking to someone who has zero clue. 😬
Seriously, I went in for a consultation at a clinic that supposedly offers orthodontic services, only to find out they don't even have a single specialist on staff—not even one working as a contractor!

I'm switching doctors—so I'm currently on the hunt for a primary care physician, a dentist, and a gynecologist here in Washington, D.C., who are actually accepting new patients. Ideally, I'd love to find someone near the area between Quad District and Central Park, or somewhere close by.

Regarding the dentist—the main thing is they need to be careful. I have a few pretty fragile front teeth, so I'm a bit nervous about them cracking during a drilling session.

So, my sister just turned 18, and now she actually needs to see a gynecologist.
I tried hitting up the social clinic over by Vrčićka, but they aren’t even taking people anymore (honestly, social clinics everywhere are useless lately). One lady there actually had the nerve to snap at me like I was some clueless kid—which, okay, fine, she’s like 50 and I’m only 22, but still! She basically yelled WE AREN'T TAKING PATIENTS, SO WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME???!!! . My sister was standing right there next to me, literally shaking, begging me to just take her home because she's terrified of going to those butchers...

Anyway, does anyone here know (or have a lead on) a decent OB-GYN? My sister's periods are a total mess, and...

I mean, what is someone supposed to do if they don't have a regular doctor? Don't we all have the same right to healthcare in this country??? Ugh, don't start with me or my sister, I'm not in the mood for the attitude.😢

Well, you usually just go to whatever local occupational health clinic is nearby. Back in the day, we used to go to the DZ vrabac center, $67 but yeah, there’s a fee for it. Just ask your own doctor where you can get it done—my son's school gave us a specific place to head to.
