Look, tell me this: if paintball counts as a sport, does that make war a sport too? I guess you could argue it falls under extreme sports at that point.

I've been playing paintball for about five years now, and I haven't seen a single person die on the field. It's not hunting; we aren't firing live rounds.
You really have to try something before you start talking about it.

Hey everyone! I’ve been running a paintball field out in Manhattan over by Karst (not too far from Malibu) for about three years now. A starter package with 100 paintballs goes for $37. Paintball is killer... I was playing 3 vs. 3 with some friends, just pure chaos, we went through $57 200 rounds ($37 100 rounds + the marker)
It was us six against the two guys who rented us the gear... We were all hit within 3 minutes.

Paintball

- Recreational play—you'll need at least a decent entry-level marker to actually have a good time.
- Grab at least 500 rounds if you want the full experience. It’s hard to really enjoy an hour or two of outdoor skirmishing without running dry. 😉

At what age are they actually allowed to play?

I've only made it out to a few sessions in Denver!! It’s honestly such a great way to stay active and blow off some steam!

You want my take, coming from someone who's been around the block:

The biggest hurdle for making paintball mainstream is just getting enough bodies on the field. Money isn't really the issue—honestly, I spend more on a night out at the pool hall with the guys than I do on gear. There are plenty of clubs, and lately, they've actually been stepping up their equipment game quite a bit.

The real headache is always trying to round up those 8 players you need just to have a decent game of rec-ball or speed-ball. In my opinion, clubs really need to step up their game when it comes to player outreach and actually building a community.

Personally, I’m always down to play, along with 3 or 4 of my buddies. But that's still not enough to make things happen. It’s on the clubs to bridge that gap and reach out to people. My crew and I wouldn't mind playing against strangers at all. Honestly, even if they're total rookies, no big deal—we can just mix the teams up. As long as we're playing, we're happy.

At the end of the day, you aren't going to see a massive organized league without a huge influx of recreational players.

To be blunt, the clubs are dropping the ball here. I don't see why it's too much trouble for a club to collect email addresses from interested folks and actually organize them. Even just sending out a mass text—it doesn't cost much to stay connected.

I am seriously thinking about finally jumping in and giving it a shot myself.....

I've been out to a few sessions, mostly playing in the woods on local courses, and honestly? It was pretty damn terrible.

So, I heard about this one guy who spent about five bucks to play at some neglected field out in rural Kentucky. They had four different courses set up, and from 2:00 PM until about 9:00 PM, they were just grilling meat and messing around with $67... honestly, it was a mess. 👍 👍 👍

The game was honestly a bit too intense... there is nothing quite like the adrenaline spike you get when a paintball whizzes right past your ear. My only real grievances were that the field felt cramped and lacked decent cover, and the equipment was subpar—we had several instances where the markers' hoppers just popped open mid-game. And once a ball hits the grass, it’s basically dead; you can't just scoop it back up and keep playing.😠 Fortunately, these days it isn't hard to find top-tier facilities and high-end gear available for rent.🙂

Oh, and since we're on the subject: once we wrapped things up, a friend of mine still had one single ball left and decided to "accidentally" tag me in the leg. Since they hadn't provided us with shin guards, let's just say it was a disaster...
In short, the pain was😍 , and the spot where I got hit actually changed colors over the course of a week, shifting from a bright red bruise to a deep purple, and eventually a sickly green...

All in all, give it a shot.😁

The word "sport" used to mean any kind of game or fun activity. Nowadays, though, the term implies specific types of motor skills—dynamic, variable movements where an athlete's unique abilities, traits, and training really come to life during competition.

Let me just jump in here and add my two cents—paintball is seriously awesome. It’s such an incredible game for leveling up your ability to stay cool under pressure and actually work as a team. My only gripe is that here in the States, it gets a little pricey. I mean, the markers and the air aren't too bad, but those paintballs and all the extra gear... man. Hehe, I'm basically just sitting around waiting for the prices to finally drop. 😛 😁

There’s honestly no better way to blow off steam... especially when you're facing off against someone you can't stand for even a second.🙂
