How do you guys watch movies?

Movies/VHS/DVD/Digital Downloads; what’s everyone currently watching?

I mostly stick to going out to the movie theater or picking up DVDs...
Sometimes I’ll catch something on an old VCR if I manage to record it from the TV, or occasionally I might jump on a pay-per-view event too...

I try catching it at the movie theater, but if I miss it, I just end up hunting it down on Blu-ray or streaming.

Everything you’ve laid out holds weight, even if the frequency of these incidents has dropped significantly lately.

(Since I don't exactly have any VHS tapes lying around here in Washington, D.C., and honestly, who even finds it worth the money to buy them anymore? Everything on TV is just incredibly dull, so I rarely bother watching it.)

I hit the cinema quite a bit... I'd say I catch about 4 or 5 movies a week at the local theater... otherwise, it's all about DVDs

Nothing beats the magic of going to the Cinema... it’s always my number one choice.

Then there’s the whole DVD situation. My partner and I actually made a pact to stop renting them because, honestly, we were spending more on late fees than anything else $333 so we figured it makes way more sense to just own them (we aren't exactly geniuses here, clearly 😁😁). Now, we’ve built up this pretty decent DVD collection 🙂 at home, mostly pretending we're serious collectors by picking up those absolute classics... though every now and then, a cheesy flick like a Mexican thriller might sneak into the mix.

Me too, I mostly stick to the Cinema, but even one movie a week is way too much for me! I have no clue how people find that much free time... 😕

Everything mentioned there... but personally, I'm mostly about DivX...
I'm not really feeling the whole Cinema vibe lately—too many people showing up just to mess things up for everyone else instead of actually watching the movie.😠 😠

I catch movies at the local Cinema, maybe on VHS if I'm feeling old school,
but whatever I miss in theaters, I just order or pick up on
DVDs from online retailers.

Don't be like that.
They showed The Thing by John Carpenter this past Saturday, and that movie is an absolute masterpiece.

And naturally, they played all the Star Wars films, except for Episode II.

Speaking of which, you could probably catch them at almost any time.🙂

By the way, have you noticed how fast cinemas in Washington, D.C. are shutting down? Looking at the storefront of that one Cinema that used to house over 20 screens, there are only about 6 or 7 left now. Lately, places like the Appalachian Mountains, the Studio, and Uranium are all gone. My whole neighborhood is disappearing.

I rarely hit up the Cinema, unfortunately. I can't stand watching movies dubbed—it just ruins the whole vibe for me.
Plus, in New York City, there are maybe two theaters left that actually bother with the original audio, and even then, you have to play this ridiculous game of syncing the timing, checking the schedule, dealing with the damn repertoire...

Cinema, cinema, cinema... then you've got the DVDs. My buddy put together an absolute beast of a home theater, so the vibe is seriously incredible!😁

No matter how many big Hollywood blockbusters hit the market, I still think nothing compares to the atmosphere of a real theater experience 🙂

Just one little follow-up on what Maria Barnes posted: sure, it’s true that local cinemas are shutting down, but there’s more to it than just that... I don't know how often you make it out to Broadway, but those places are packed!!! Seriously, all the time!!! James Bond started playing this past Thursday. I called every single day, and every time the woman at the counter gave me the same line: "I'm so sorry, but our reservation quota is full." Finally, I lost my cool yesterday, barely managed to find a parking spot at 7 PM, sat down in the fourth row (the FOURTH!!!!!), and actually saw the movie! And let's not forget that the ticket was $9.25 which, as far as I know, is about as expensive as you can get in Washington, D.C.!?

Back in the day, nothing really beat a good old DVD... or maybe DivX was actually the king...
I don't get out to the movie theater all that often, unfortunately... I just can't stand watching movies with dubbed audio. It totally ruins the experience for me...

So, I’m still a DVD and DivX guy myself, though I’ll admit I occasionally catch something on the TV... very rarely, mind you... or maybe I'll pop one of those old home-recorded tapes I synced up myself into a player... 🙄
