Gregory Ramirez2 said:Thanks! I'll give that a shot. Quick question though—how do you do those multi-quotes for long posts?

Sometimes you just want to jump in and respond to specific parts of a post personally, right? I bet you feel the same way!

I'm trying to figure out how to quote things like in this post here: http://www.example-us-forum.com/showpost.php?p=5...&postcount=568

That part is actually pretty straightforward... just copy the text from the user you're replying to and click the icon to the right of the mountain image... best to just play around with it and see. 😬

😂

I’m gonna need a massive glass of milk just to process what you wrote there 😵

Like—I get certain bits of it, I really do—but I just can't wrap my head around how it all fits together into one logical thought 🤷

What mountain? I don't have one! Am I supposed to pick something off a map or what? 😬

I've only got three little boxes without any mountains 🤷

I listed which three I have over here:

PS: I've got:
"Quick replay on this mesage".
I tried highlighting the part of the text I wanted to quote and hitting that little box, but absolutely nothing happens!

Right next to that little box, there are other ones on the left side that say: "Multiquote" and "Quote".

Like, if a post is super long, how can I reply to specific parts of it separately?

I've looked everywhere, but I just can't find it.
I even checked here, but I don't have that checkbox for "Wrap tags around selected text."
The last box I see in the bottom right is "Quick reply to this message."
I tried highlighting the specific text I want to quote and clicking that button, but absolutely nothing happens.

Next to that button, I’ve got the "Multiquote" and "Quote" options sitting to the left.

The Multiquote thing works fine when I'm trying to grab multiple different posts, but it won't let me multiquote within a single post.

I actually already got a warning on the forum because I couldn't figure out how to multiquote one post, so I just split it up with dashes instead—and the same moderator who gave me the warning hasn't even replied to my PM about it! I really don't want to rack up any more useless strikes just because of this "glitch." 🤦

Somebody Help me, please? 🕺

Btw I'm using Google Chrome on Windows 8

PS: A few times I've just resorted to copy-pasting the same post over and over, quoting it multiple times, and then manually deleting all the extra stuff I don't need from each block.
But man, that takes forever—it totally kills the mood for quoting and makes it such a chore to respond to those longer posts.

You just type your response right here, and then you do this 😁...you see, you have to manually mark where the specific section starts and ends, and it ends up looking like this: 🙂

I really wanted to drop a screenshot here so you guys could see exactly what's popping up on my monitor, but I think I can only paste it into Word 🤷

Just so you know—I'm totally clueless when it comes to technical PC stuff 🕺

I hope this clears things up for you—it’s honestly how I find everything easiest to manage... give 🙂
a shot.
You can do this using just the most basic quote function... all you have to do is isolate the specific snippets of text you want to address and include the username of whoever you're replying to—just grab that header from their post. Then, just tag it with "quote" at the end, and that section will turn blue while you type your response around it. Believe me, I wouldn't call myself some kind of tech genius by any stretch, but I am persistent... as you can see, you'll find my fingerprints on almost every page here 🤣

The font on that image is way too tiny 🙄

Can I get a magnifying glass for that pic? 😬

I tried blowing it up in a new window but it’s no use—everything just gets all blurry 🕺

Kevin Newman3 said:Gregory Ramirez2....I felt the same struggle, honestly. Let me try to break this down for you.....if you want to split up a single post to reply to it bit by bit, just use a standard quote block. You basically divide the text by sandwiching the specific part you're addressing between two markers...for example Gregory Ramirez2

which
then it clicks [normal quote, then you split the text so the beginning and end
of it

nonsense
Quote:

the post will have a name... like Gregory Ramirez2
, and at the end of the snippet you see
... then you just type your response to that specific part right after it, and you can do the same for the rest of the

goodness
that person's... basically, you need to have the copied snippet at both the start and the end... I know it sounds super complicated.... but just keep practicing... that's how I learned!

Bożja...

Why make things simple when you can make them complicated? 🤦

Gregory Ramirez2... I've got to hand it to you, you're actually copying the forum user's nickname into its own little section and then tacking the quote tag onto the end of that segment. You have to do that for every single separate block of text before you write your response underneath. Go ahead, give it another shot.

Thanks so much 🙂 I think I finally get it 🙂

But man, what a headache this whole combining thing is...
On the international forum where I’m actually a moderator now, you don't even have to mess around with combinations just to make a multi-quote post.
You basically just type your reply right under every specific part of the post you want to respond to, hit "post" at the end, and boom—you're done. 🤦

Moşe, you could split someone's post into 100 different pieces and answer every single bit with just one click at the very end...
Basically, you just hit "quote," reply to as many parts of their post as you want, and then hit "post."

But hey, whatever. Maybe we'll get a feature like that here in about a hundred years. 😬
Btw, that other forum is free and private too. 😉

Everything here is just unnecessarily complicated, just like everything else in this country... anyway, I'm glad you finally figured it out 🙂

They’ve already given you an answer, but honestly... In this thread... You can actually find answers to just about any question you have regarding how to use the forum right here. If you're looking for a breakdown on how the multiquote feature works, I've got a full explanation waiting for you! Here?.

I checked there a while ago, but it wasn't explained nearly as well as you just did right here! 👍
The way they have it there—just one way to multiquote a single post—is honestly kind of useless to me, because all those quoted sections turn into this massive gray/blue blob on my screen, making the actual post totally unreadable 🙄
That button is right here:

The text only pops up once you hover your mouse over the quote area.

Hallelujah! 🙏
I was looking for it down below because that's how it looked in some other people's posts 🕺

I really think your explanation should be posted officially—like, added to those existing multiquote guides you linked to here.

It would make life so much easier for all the newbies, like me "tech-illiterates," 🙂
Thanks so much for the reply and for taking the time to help! 🙂

Man, I’m gonna need a huge glass of milk or something because I am seriously struggling to follow what you just wrote... 😵

Honestly, I'm pretty lost too :/
So, like, I get certain bits and pieces here and there, but I just can't wrap my head around how it all fits together into one coherent thought... 🤷

Basically, we'll just have to wait and see if this whole thing actually works out... 😬

Quote:

User123 says:
The name... for instance, you’d put Gregory Ramirez2
, and then at the end of the snippet you're isolating, you'd use the closing
. After that, you type your reply to that particular segment, and then move on to the next part of their message. In essence, you have to sandwich your commentary between copied snippets. I realize it sounds needlessly convoluted... but just keep practicing. That was my own struggle when I first started.
