If you're looking to break a post down into chunks before replying... just highlight the section you want with your mouse and hit the icon.

Yeah,

then you just type away. Just make sure to preview it before hitting send—if you see a bunch of redundant "quote" tags popping up, just delete them. It takes a little practice, but it’s not exactly rocket science.

Got it, checking the preview sounds like a solid plan.

See? Like this...

Well...

haha, it’s almost too easy.

Will this actually work?
vodka says:
I haven't done this in six and a half years.🤣

fair enough.
vodka says:
This is my first post formatted like this. Exciting.

Well, eh.

Maybe it would help if you figured out what a proper post actually looks like? 🙂 Try this:

test
=Spectre;47027086
your commentary on the first Quote

test

=Spectre;47027086
your commentary on the second Quote

test

=Spectre;47027086
your commentary on the third Quote

And don't forget to include the username.

So, how do you actually quote someone?
Here is the format:
the text you're quoting

The result looks like this:
Quote:
the text you're quoting
You’ll need to manually type out the name of the person you're quoting right before the citation. When you hit the automatic quote button (it's at the bottom of every post), the forum generates a block that looks like this:
Nick said:the text you're quoting

In reality, it renders as:
Quote:
Nick says:
the text you're quoting
You can mimic that structure if you want, or just write the person's name right before the quote.

I copied all of this and I still don't get it... it just won't work.

Just write:

Anyway, I'm just going to give you the quick version now
It looks like this:
Quote:
the text you're quoting
You'll have to manually type out the Nick of the person you're quoting right before the quote itself. When you hit the automatic quote button (it's at the bottom of every post), the forum generates a format like this:

Once you've tagged them all, just click the regular Quote button on that final post. Everything should automatically wrap itself in those quote tags, giving you the freedom to clean up any fluff, bold the parts that actually matter, or slide your own commentary in between the blocks of text. It's pretty straightforward, really.

Pure gold 👍

So how do I break one single post down into multiple parts?

Right next to that "Quote" button, there's an icon for "Multi-quote." Just scroll through the thread and click that icon on every post you want to address. Once you're done, head to the bottom of the page and hit "Post Reply." A window will pop up containing all the posts you selected.

Good luck navigating this mess. 😉

I honestly have no clue where these extra icons or little bubbles are supposed to be, so I'm stuck trying this copy/paste thing instead...

Right next to the "quote" button, there's an icon for "multiple quote." You just go through the thread and click the icon on every post you want to comment on.

Trying it out

Not working

Then you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the thread and hit "post reply." A window will pop up with your response area, and it'll have all those posts you selected via "multiple quote" already loaded in there for you.

Good luck with that 😉

The QUOTE key is for your standard single quote—the one with the plus sign is for multi-quoting. So, if you want to reply to three different people at once, you just hit that plus button on the first two posts, then hit the QUOTE key on the last one.

The code is supposed to look like this: image or like this: image

Some text...

In the first version, you can actually see who you're quoting (it links back to their specific post), whereas the second one is just the raw text itself—which really needs to be sandwiched between two QUOTE tags. You don't delete or add anything to them. It looks like you only copied the snippet of code that comes after the text, which is why you ended up with what you did.

try 2 x Quote

hit "quote" down below, and it'll open a page where you can write your response, with the original message already typed out for you.

try 2

right next to "quote," there's an icon for "multiple quote." Just scroll through the thread and click the icon on every post you want to comment on. Once you're done, head to the bottom of the thread and hit "post reply."

try 3

and again, it opens a window for your reply with all those posts you selected via "multiple quote" already loaded in there.

Have fun... 😉

try 4

Not quite how I pictured it, let me try again...

What am I supposed to click first? None of these instructions make any sense to me, and I have no idea how to, say, quote multiple posts at once 🙄 try 2 x Quote

How does multi-quote work? In what order should I do it, and when?

[QUOTE="cosmicskipper39, post: 382206, member: 654"]You can even do it "manually" if you want.
AltGr + F = [
AltGr + G = ]
Just type this at the start:
[quote.] (leave out the period)
Then wrap it up with this at the end:
[/quote.](no period here either)
PHP Code:
[ICODE][COLOR=#000000] [COLOR=#0000BB] [/COLOR][/COLOR][/ICODE]

[clap][/QUOTE]

Then you better explain how that works, because I've tried and it’s just not happening. When I click multi-quote, nothing happens. When I finally hit quote, I only get your post. 🙂

The system will automatically wrap all those posts in Quote tags. From there, you can manually strip out the junk, bold the important stuff, or drop your own comments between the quotes.[/I]

😁

Where am I missing the mark? If you could provide some more specific guidance, I’d appreciate it.

My current process is a bit of a cumbersome workaround—I tend to hit Quote, copy the entire block, strip out the parts I don't need, write my response, then paste the whole thing back in just to prune it again, and repeat the cycle indefinitely.

😁
