I deal with the exact same nonsense in my left eye; apparently, it’s due to an excessive cylinder measurement, which causes the lens to essentially bounce around inside.

So, does anyone actually know a solid eye doctor in Washington, D.C. they could recommend?🙂

Hey everyone. I’ve been rocking soft contacts for 12 years now and honestly, they’ve been a lifesaver. But lately, I’ve been looking for a way out of this whole blurry mess. My prescription is sitting at -4.75 in both eyes, and apparently, overnight lenses only go up to -4.00, so that’s a total non-starter for me. That leaves laser eye surgery as my only real move, assuming I can actually scrape enough cash together. I want to hear from anyone who’s gone through it—is it worth it? And is it true that your vision can actually drift back to being crappy again later on?

A friend of mine had laser eye surgery a few years back, and her vision only shifted by a tiny 0.25—hardly a big deal. I’m currently saving up for it myself, but I have to admit, I’m a little nervous because she said the recovery was pretty painful. I'm just not sure if I'm ready for that level of discomfort yet.

I’ve been using semi-solid lenses for about six months now.
It took roughly a month before they stopped bothering me entirely.
The advantages of semi-solid lenses:
1 They tend to last longer.
2 They aren't as prone to bacterial buildup compared to soft lenses, which naturally lowers the risk of eye infections.
3 They are easier to clean—you can even use a mild detergent if you happen to run out of solution.

No way am I going back to semi-solid lenses. For the last year, I’ve been sticking with soft lenses from Johnson & Johnson—they're alright, I guess—even if they do dry out my cornea a little bit. Still, it beats the alternative... I'd much rather deal with some dryness than risk gouging my eye out with a semi-solid lens!

I honestly can't remember which brand of glasses I’m wearing right now... but the frames constantly slip down my nose, which ends up irritating my eyes and making them all red and puffy. My local eye doctor at LensCrafters claims they have the best selection on the market, but I'm not so sure.
Someone told me they were definitely the top tier...
What brands are you guys actually wearing? Which ones have been the absolute best for you?

Honestly, I don’t even know what brand I’m rocking, just some semi-solid ones. They kicked in pretty fast for me, and I had them fitted at an eye clinic in Chicago, so I haven't dealt with any issues for like 12 years now.
Of course, I swap them out once they start getting gross, and I grab my liquid solutions from the same place too. I usually stick with the same pair for about 3 or 4 years.
They tell you to switch them sooner, but I don't really see the point since everything's fine—I just wait until they're totally worn out... 🙂

I’ve been wearing mine for at least five years now... and they’re still holding up quite well, provided I give them a little polish about once a year.

My cleaning routine is pretty basic: just some water and dish soap—I believe it’s the new Jar 😁 if my memory serves me—and then I store them in a saline solution that seems to last an absolute eternity...

I’m fairly certain they’re Allergan products... though I can’t for the life of me remember if my ophthalmologist is still practicing at the same clinic...
Perhaps I’ll actually bother to pay him a visit one of these days...

Hold up, are you actually washing your contacts with regular soap? Doesn't that mess with your eyes?
I've heard people try that before, but I find it hard to believe you aren't totally wrecking your eye's pH balance or leaving nasty chemical residue on the lenses.
Also, how is saline supposed to kill off all the bacteria and fungi after you wash them? Like, how does it actually neutralize everything while they're just sitting in the case?

The absolute best solution I ever used was just baby shampoo.

Personally, I’ve always found Allergan solutions to be superior,
whether we're talking about hard or soft lenses.

And yes, definitely Allergan... though since they stopped carrying LC-65-N, I've mostly been sticking with Pur. Usually a half-liter $2.75 or something along those lines.

I gave Boston a shot because my girlfriend uses it, but honestly, it's just not my thing.

For storage, go with saline; for cleaning, stick to Pur.

Though, if you happen to have particularly sensitive eyes, I wouldn't suggest it; my better half, for instance, can't stand them at all.

I picked up some Boston products, so we'll see how they perform. They aren't expensive at all—about the same price as any other contact lens solution.

I used to use Avizor back in the day. I used to pick it up at an Optometrist shop over in downtown Chicago—hardly anyone else carried it. The solutions were great (once I tried some random brand from a pharmacy, it was a disaster), but that shop stopped stocking it. Now I just buy Boston, which is just as good, just pricier. I've tried both single-bottle systems and those 2-in-1 combos. Both work fine, but I lean toward the 2-in-1 since it's easier to toss in a bag when traveling...

I used to pick up Avizor myself whenever it was actually available, and frankly, I found it far superior to Boston... it was easily the best solution I’ve come across since LC-65-N vanished from the market.

As for Pur, it's perfectly fine... provided the pH isn't wildly off. In my estimation, you really want to stay as close to neutral as possible.

I stick to these American solutions for my semi-solid lenses
and they get the job done.
My routine is simple: I wash them at night, rinse them under the faucet, and pop them in the storage solution. In the morning, I just grab them from the case, drop them in my eyes, and give the case a quick rinse with water.
