I have this specific, lingering memory of some cowboy robot from a movie—honestly, I can't quite place the title right now—but the main antagonist, that cowboy character, was played by Yul Brynner. I think that’s how you spell it, anyway. He’s that incredibly charismatic bald actor from The Magnificent Seven.

movie: Westworld

Yoda isn't humanoid?
Symmetrical, two arms, two legs... that's humanoid. 😁>

If we’re using that logic, then C-3PO is humanoid too. Give me a better definition and maybe you'll get an apology from me...😁 😁

Yoda. Still my favorite.👍>

Yoda. Still my absolute favorite.👍

To be considered humanoid, you actually have to be a living being—and C-3PO just isn't...
I’ve said this before, honestly—I didn't think I even needed to spell it out.

Actually, it's just "Westworld." It's based on that novel by Michael Crichton.

Here is the link to the film:

I don't get it. What's the point?

Symmetrical, two arms, two legs... totally humanoid. 😁

If we’re going by that logic, then C-3PO is basically a humanoid too. Give me a better definition and I’ll gladly eat my words.😁 😁

Yoda. Still my absolute favorite.👍

Look, I’ve gotta stop you right there. You can't just throw in Yoda, Chewbacca, or some Ferengi. The character has to be "artfully" built directly into the story or the film itself. Like I said before, they can definitely look human, but that's where it ends.

...Wow. Thanks a million. This forum is just incredibly informative, guys and gals. Truly impressive.

Anyway... I need to go hunt down a copy of "Westworld" (a DVD would be perfect, though a VHS wouldn't be bad either). I caught the movie once or twice back in the day on TV, and it was honestly fantastic. I don't think it suffers from that "Bud Spencer and Terence Hill" kind of campiness, and looking at the posters online where the heroes are all posing heroically, it seems like Cameron might have pulled some inspiration for the rugged look of The Terminator from this flick.

I'll admit I was wrong. Still, I have a soft spot for Yoda... Everyone has their own tastes, regardless of how they look.

boldmason6 said:I mean, Yoda isn't even humanoid, right? So he definitely fits into the category we're talking about here. Plus, Seven of Nine isn't a robot either—honestly, you could argue she’s actually human. Don't forget, before she was assimilated by The Borg, she was just a little girl taken from her parents!

So yeah, Yoda. I'm sticking to my guns on that one. Period.

Sure, Yoda isn't humanoid, but I feel like the whole point was about the tech side of things, you know? Like, any being that's mechanical, whether it's just a part of them or the whole deal.
Seven of Nine is definitely humanoid, but she acts more like a machine than a person since she was basically raised to function that way in all sorts of situations.

I’d honestly kill for a chance to see that flick again (if anyone out there happens to know anything more about this movie, I’m begging you for some intel).

There's actually a sequel out there: Futureworld

It’s just "The West," or maybe "Westworld." It was based on the novel by Michael Crichton, after all.

Look, I get it, but back when this aired on TV here in the States, that's exactly how it was translated.
I suppose that's just how movie titles tend to get handled during local broadcasts; the translator probably wanted to lean into the whole plot point involving that robotic version of Ancient Rome.

Since we all know how movie titles tend to get localized around here, I'm thinking the translator probably wanted to lean into that whole plot point involving a high-tech, robotic version of Ancient Rome.

When you say "back then," are you talking about the old days before the country changed?
If that's the case, maybe using just "The West" sounded a bit too much like pure capitalism, so they tossed in "Eastern" just to keep things feeling balanced.😁

Fair enough, I stand corrected. It turns out Seven is actually a bit too humanoid to meet the strict criteria established for this thread.

My comment wasn't intended as a continuation of the debate regarding humanoid Yodas or other such characters; rather, it was simply an observation that the seventh one in those website photos looks remarkably good for a robot. Feel free to insert whatever smiley face you think fits best after that period.

Man, I am obsessed with all the robots in movies. Seriously, when are we actually gonna get them in real life?🙄

Except for that total loser Robbie robot from the 50s. What a nightmare. Such a massive bore.😁 😁 😁

Hands down, my absolute favorite non-human character has gotta be the Doctor from Star Trek.

Anyone remember the name of that robot from the movie?
I know I asked this a few months back and someone actually posted a picture of it 🙏

I’ve got that flick on Blockbuster, so when I get around to rewatching it, I'll let you know 🙂
