I'm a total amateur when it comes to cinema, but maybe in a few years, haha

Being an amateur doesn't matter; we respect the beginners. 🙏 🙏 But let's be honest, there's no way you'll ever make it as a true cinephile if you don't show enough appreciation for the classics and Westerns.

Do you find yourself drawn to the Western genre? It is a curious question, isn't it? One wonders if the appeal lies in the dusty, sweeping vistas of the frontier or perhaps in that inherent, almost tragic sense of isolation that seems to permeate every frame. There is something profoundly wearying yet strangely hypnotic about those old tales of justice and lawlessness playing out under a relentless sun. Personally, I have always found myself pondering whether we seek out those stories to escape our own complexities, or simply to witness a more primal, albeit stylized, version of the human condition.
And here I am, having gone and mentioned my distaste for the classics—as if that wasn't enough to set the tone for this entire conversation.

When did I ever say I don't like the classics?

Yeah, it might bore me, but I’ll give it a shot. I'm certainly setting different standards than I did for those supposed "films of the future." I'm not a fan of older movies, but I watched American Werewolf in London the other day and it was actually wicked... definitely didn't expect that level of quality from an 80s flick.

😈 Just give a look at that picture in the topic wrong turn already.

This is frankly quite underhanded; while you're busy quoting me, you conveniently strip away the most vital part of my statement—the very bit that proves my innocence. I specifically said, it isn't that I have an aversion to older films, which essentially means I have absolutely nothing against them.

Those aliens coming out of people's backsides were really just the icing on this whole cake of nonsense.

I couldn't agree more.

You really picked the perfect topic for a debate, haven't you? It seems King has finally pivoted entirely toward aliens, a genre that simply doesn't sit right with his essence. Personally, what I always admired about his work was the certainty that all evil springs directly from hell; there were no gray areas in his world. He used to be such a formidable moralist, an old-school principled storyteller—pure Frank Capra stuff. But now? He’s become quite tedious and rather bland. I was anticipating that classic Castle Rock production feel, something reminiscent of King in the eighties, yet instead, I was met with this utterly lackluster mess featuring that mediocre New Kids on the Block actor. In any case, it was dreadful, and that’s pretty much all I can recall.

Tyler Sanchez said:Well, you certainly picked a lively topic. King finally went full sci-fi with the aliens, which just doesn't suit him. Personally, what I loved about his work was knowing that evil came straight from hell—no gray areas. He used to be this intense moralist, an old-school principled guy, almost like Frank Capra. Now? He’s just bland. I was expecting a classic Castle Rock production reminiscent of his 80s era, but instead, we got this total dud starring that mediocre New Kids on the Block actor. It was awful, and that’s about all I remember.

And he keeps constantly pushing these disabled or marginalized characters who get bullied, clearly trying to squeeze sympathy out of the reader because he's running low on actual ideas... He’s recycling too much from his older books in Dreamcatcher. He should leave the aliens to Steven Spielberg; he's the "expert" on that stuff.

There are way too many parallels in Dreamcatcher to his older books. Let him leave the aliens to Steven Spielberg; that guy's the "expert" when it comes to them.

Man, even he seems to be losing his touch lately...

Honestly, if you don't love Westerns, you clearly haven't seen my list😁

My old man is a massive fan himself, and since he's basically the one funding my Western obsession, I definitely have to give him a shout-out... plus, I'm planning on owning every single one and watching them all over again...
