The internet can be pretty risky when it comes to health advice and medical treatments. I guess warm water might be better than cold, but maybe it's just me.

It’s just hilarious how people look at refugees from Syria like they're some kind of bottom-of-the-barrel beggars, when half of them probably finished college and speak better English than 99% of Americans. Terrorists 🙂

And what am I supposed to do, hand you some 489-page PDF about the education levels in Syria? Their culture goes back 5,000 years. While they were busy counting and subtracting, Europeans were just throwing crap out their windows.

And then, while they were... uh, doing other things, Europeans ended up conquering the world. Honestly, modern Syrians probably have as much in common with those ancient people as today's Greeks do with the ancients. I mean, sure, there are definitely smart, educated people in that crowd, but there’s also a lot of absolute scum. And by scum, I mean all sorts of frauds, criminals, terrorists, and just general bottom-of-the-barrel types. Look, I already said this, but people should be admitted—I'm not against that—but you have to follow the actual legal regulations for immigrants. You can't just let groups of people wandering around everywhere without any paperwork or a way to identify them. I mean, how are they even going to prove they finished college without documents? Are we just supposed to take their word for it when they claim they're a neurosurgeon or whatever?😁

Honestly, I couldn't care less about the education situation in Syria—those folks from Raqqa haven't really changed much since 2500 BC. :rozacvike:

I mean, look—if a few dozen thousand aggressive types from the Ozarks tried to force their way into the States (take the US as an example here), they wouldn't just be looking for some old historical monument or a nest of machine guns to deal with.

Do you actually have any data on these people wandering through Europe without papers? How many are coming from Syria? And you claim they’re all college-educated? You clearly have the evidence, you’re just holding out on me.

I still can't wrap my head around how it's even physically possible for people to trek across half of Europe—from Turkey all the way up to Scandinavia—without anyone stopping them to check their IDs. Is that even real? When Viktor Orbán tries to tighten things up, he’s practically branded Hitler 2.0. Are laws at the European Union level even enforced, or is it all just dead ink on a page?
Can someone give me a reasoned explanation (and please, leave out the "terrorist" and "fascist" 🙂 labels) regarding what the European Union's actual policy is for the inevitable waves of immigrants following Merkel's public invitations? Are we just letting everyone drift to their preferred destination before they finally ask for asylum? And what happens to the ones whose asylum requests get denied, but they have no papers and refuse to say where they came from? Who do you send them to? Is there any hope of stopping human trafficking and the profiteering off of human misery? I honestly can't fathom how incompetent the European Union can be; it feels like nobody actually gives a damn.🤷

Just to clear the air so there's no confusion: I am absolutely all for helping people from Syria. It doesn't matter to me if we take 100, 3,000, or 10,000... but these people need to come directly from Syria or from refugee camps in Turkey or Lebanon, not just show up at the border (or already inside the country) with zero documentation.
By the way, they're expected to arrive in America by next week since the Canadian route is being shut down. I'm sure the Americans in Canada will be more than happy to welcome them. 🎉

Look, not everyone is an uneducated beggar. Of course there are educated people in there. But do you honestly think the media is going to interview people who don't speak English? I mean, let's be real—how many local European journalists actually know how to speak Arabic?

There’s zero plan here, at least nothing long-term, which is why everything looks so amateurish.
Merkel basically just announced she’s tossing out those rules meant to stop everyone from dumping asylum seekers on countries like Greece or Italy, claiming the war in Syria changes everything.
They somehow managed to forget to mention that you still have to claim asylum in the first European Union country you actually hit.
Those asylum seekers refused to register in Canada because they were terrified of being stuck there—which, let’s be honest, is exactly what happens if they can't prove they're actually from Syria. The Canadian authorities couldn't just let them slide either; doing so would mean breaking their own laws and violating their obligations to the Schengen agreement.
The circus is starting up again with those so-called "peaceful protests" sweeping through Germany and Austria, all to defend marketing hacks like Larry Fox5 while they point fingers at the Canadians and Viktor Orbán.
The Canadians are letting 4,000 asylum seekers through toward Germany, and then they have the nerve to start protesting and filing complaints the very same day, claiming they were only allowed in because they weren't registered.

Asylum seekers aren't interested in staying in Canada, Romania, Bulgaria, or Austria, and they’re actively dodging registration at the same time. They're just trekking down the highway toward Germany on foot. 🤦 The Canadians are basically providing free bus rides right up to the Austrian border because they can't just shut down the highway, for crying out loud. There isn't even a coherent plan, let alone a unified strategy, to deal with this whole burden. Honestly, these people have become a problem entirely by their own doing.

People showing up without any paperwork are banking on making it to Sweden because they know you can't exactly deport someone if there’s nowhere to send them—unless you pay some failing nation to take them back regardless of where they actually came from. And apparently, the Swedes just hand out citizenship after five years no matter what. Yet, at the same time, they act like jerks and refuse to accept unregistered asylum seekers coming from Denmark, but then they’ll happily provide transport over to Finland just so those people can register there and eventually slip into Sweden. It's a complete circus.

It looks like having papers proving you're from Syria is actually a massive advantage right now.

You did a great job breaking down the timeline here.👍
All this info is out there for anyone with half a brain to find, but most people just stick to their local news bubbles and moan about how tragic everything is for the Syrians, acting like nobody cares. The big headline recently was actually some Canadian reporter 🤦
. I’ll be honest—I didn't give much of a damn about what was happening in the Middle East until this whole asylum seeker hysteria kicked off, but over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been trying to stay informed, and frankly, I can't get my head straight. This European Union is more disorganized than our own dysfunctional government. There have been 1.8 million refugees sitting in Turkey since this mess started back in 2012—and only about 200k of them are even in camps—yet Europe seems totally clueless about what to do with the people crossing over into Greece (the distance from Turkey to Lesvos is roughly the same as going from San Francisco to Monterey). Did it ever occur to anyone that these people might decide to head toward Europe because they're tired of waiting in Turkey? Or that the Greeks, despite all their own issues, don't actually have the resources or the capacity to handle this alone? Instead, when it comes time to actually solve the problem, they just spend their time bickering over which country has to take how many Syrians 😵
. It’s like a pipe bursts in an apartment building, and instead of just turning off the main valve, everyone starts fighting over whether it's better to catch the flooding water in bottles or in pots
.

Germany and Sweden are basically the only ones where politicians actually roll out the red carpet for asylum seekers. It’s easy to see why they head straight for places where they won't be sent back once things settle down, especially since neighboring countries are just waiting for a chance to deport them. But you have to register, which they simply won't allow. Of course, even the Canadians aren't crazy enough to force registration when there's zero guarantee they'll get any financial backing for it.

There's also this ridiculous dynamic where Germany pushes through a decision that most other member states are against, then turns around and demands quotas and funding from the European Union.

ambertinker41, what is this even supposed to mean?

Look, I’m a "marketing shill" because I actually believe people should have the right to seek asylum—which, honestly, should be one of the greatest achievements of a free society and the peak of the civilization we live in. :klap:

I'm a "marketing shill" living in a country where I'm surrounded every single day by Muslims from the Middle East—many of whom are my actual friends—yet you're out here acting like some avant-garde visionary who sees through it all, treating a populist like Orbán like he's some kind of great white magician. 🙏🙏🙏

Just drop the politics, ambertinker41... soccer is a much better way to spend your time. 🙂

Fair point, but they aren't even seeking asylum. In fact, they're refusing to ask for it. My only generalization about these people is that they are currently, en masse, and in an organized way—not talking conspiracy theories here, but actual group refusals to register or accept aid like food and water—violating European Union laws. That’s it. Whether they are smart, good, evil, pretty, or cultured, I don't know, because I don't know them. This chaos they've caused serves no one; they’re just complicating the whole situation, which will make things harder for future asylum seekers, and potentially even for themselves.
And Orbán is right. This "right" you guys imagine exists, which ignores the legitimate authority of sovereign states over their own territory, is a disaster. We aren't talking about some crazy laws here, but the simple fact that you can't just enter and move around the European Union without documentation.
edit: And that's where your marketing fails—if you actually think Orbán is required (he isn't; he's prohibited) to let them into the EU. end edit.
There are ways to prove whether someone is from Syria or not, even without papers. The problem is when you prove they aren't from there, you still won't be able to prove where they *are* from just to send them back.

The way this is going, the mob has screwed over everyone who actually tried to seek asylum through legitimate channels. It seems like if you follow the regulations, you're treated like an idiot.

When migration hits this kind of scale, the rulebook basically goes out the window—there's just no way to follow every single protocol perfectly. I mean, you can't exactly build a massive camp to sit 100k people down one by one to check their IDs and origins, right? We’d be stuck at the border near the US-Mexico line for two years before anyone even moved an inch.

That would be absolute pure chaos, total madness... instead, they get spread out to different processing centers across the US so they can actually be vetted to see who even qualifies for asylum.

Look, I know none of us want to stare at those photos, and nobody wants to be stuck in those lines themselves—but there has to be some level of basic humanity here, where we aren't treating people like cattle just to be herded around.

Then again, you have Viktor Orbán.......

http://www.sueddeutsche.de/politik/u...n-ab-1.2634266

.... which is just fine for someone trying to coexist with Muslims.

The worst part is he's getting massive support for his views, both back home and in other countries too.

Man, we aren't just stumbling through the dark anymore. We've become the darkness.

Viktor Orbán has the law on his side; if he’s using xenophobic nonsense just to score political points, sure, we can call him a disgusting person, but we shouldn't prioritize highlighting his inhumanity over respecting the actual regulations.

And as for what you say about turning a blind eye to the rules—you shouldn't. At the end of the day, even German (or any other) EU politicians don't actually care about them, yet they simultaneously talk trash about Orbán like he's Dracula. Why doesn't an emergency session just vote on whether we're going to help these people or not? If the vote comes up "no," then Germany (and every other EU nation) is free to send transport and coordinate a specific asylum registration and transport regime with Canada and the rest of the states for all interested asylum seekers (it doesn't have to be trains 😬 this time). But there's just no political will for it.

We should have made it possible for these people to register directly from UN centers, and we still should.

Orbán is a piece of work, but let’s be real—that's nothing new. That’s exactly why he’s become such an icon for our local wannabe right-wingers. I can already see how Tomislav Karamarko will be sucking up to him at every single opportunity once he gets back into power.
