In our case, we didn't even implement a complete lockdown, so I truly believe we didn't go to any extremes. Most of you seem generally dissatisfied with the measures taken, yet you don't have—and especially didn't have back in early March—a clear vision of what specifically you would have done differently. I am talking about the entire system, the entire country. Let's be honest, probably nobody actually has that kind of blueprint.
Furthermore, it is an issue—and something I have witnessed firsthand within certain sectors of the public service I deal with—that people have interpreted safety guidelines very selectively, often interpreting them in whatever way allowed them to do the least amount of work. I wouldn't be surprised if that's been happening in parts of the non-COVID healthcare sector too. But then again, that is simply a flaw in a decaying system, and that decay has merely become more visible due to this stressful situation.
And perhaps that’s for the best; maybe more people will finally see things for what they are. Because once the virus passes, the rot will still be there.
I already mentioned my specific blueprint to you. Hint: Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Singapore.
Like, just how much everyone was freaking out about Italy—well, they could have been mentioning Taiwan a hundred times a day in the news and on ESPN, masks and everything else, not that I want to keep repeating myself.
You take it step by step, and if things aren't getting better, you tighten the screws. Like I said before.
And there's an added issue, which I've personally witnessed in parts of the public sector I deal with, where teams were being incredibly loose with safety guidelines—I mean, really stretching them to do as little as possible. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same story in parts of the non-COVID healthcare sectors too. But that's just a symptom of a rotten system, and all that rot just became way more obvious because of this high-stress situation.
Well, that's an even deeper layer to this that people aren't even bringing up, and I gotta wonder, how much money do you think is going to get pocketed?
Everything is just going to be labeled as "economic stimulus."
The whole virus thing is going to become a convenient excuse for everything.
We're seeing even more extreme cases over in Mexico and Canada.
So it's kind of weird to me how you're defending these measures so unconditionally when you know exactly how much room they create for people to abuse the system.
I'm not one of those people advocating for doing absolutely nothing, but yeah, we were definitely cutting corners on the rules.
