It honestly feels like people don't fully grasp how much this whole massive hysteria is making a broken healthcare system perform even worse than it already was.
I mean, let's be real, it wasn't exactly running like a well-oiled machine before all this started either.

Are we seriously doing this right now?

So, basically, six months ago they would have admitted her and done what needed to be done, but now she's being turned away specifically because of the COVID-19 hysteria.

They sent her to a COVID center—that used to be cardiology, but now it’s been turned into a COVID center, and the people who sent her there knew perfectly well there aren't any cardiologists working there anymore.

I’ve experienced this kind of runaround at least three times before—though honestly, I might have lost count—and one of those instances ended with them practically trying to dissect my father right there on the table just to figure out what was wrong with him. Even as a complete layman, the lack of logic was glaringly obvious; nobody could offer a single coherent explanation for why they were rushing such a drastic move. If I hadn't been able to get someone important on the phone to intervene, that would have been the reality. We eventually spent four hours just waiting to head home without any surgery being performed, simply because a specialist finally showed up and actually bothered to give him an honest examination.

We managed to get through it unscathed, but I can only imagine how many people aren't so lucky.

Since then, I don't trust the "system" with even a fingernail.

I highly recommend you watch the film Death result of Mr. Lazarescu.
A man is shuttled from one hospital to another by ambulance, and absolutely nobody wants to take him in—they just keep passing him off to the next facility.
And this was filmed long before COVID-19 ever existed.
Sure, it's a Romanian film, but it's effectively the same nonsense you'd see if it were filmed right here in the States.

Honestly, I recommend this movie to everyone; it's excellent.

Government employees love doing this. When you show up, their first thought isn't how to help you, but how to get rid of you and ship you off to someone else.
It has nothing to do with COVID-19. This could have happened anytime, and most likely, it has happened countless times before.

Seriously, if she lists COVID-19 as the cause of death, mission accomplished!

So, are you suggesting that absolutely nothing should have been done simply because the system was already flawed?

So, where did that old line go—"she was old anyway, she would have died soon regardless"?

Well, you wouldn't even have to call anyone to avoid surgery, because they wouldn't even admit him if he had a fever.

I’ve got someone at my house right now waiting on COVID-19 results.

It could have happened before COVID-19, and it definitely did a hundred times. But this time, it happened specifically because of the COVID-19 hysteria.

brightpilot6, can you even imagine going through that exact same scenario during the height of COVID-19?

brightpilot6 said:So, are you suggesting that absolutely nothing should have been done simply because the system was already flawed?

Since when did you become so exclusive?

I personally think it’s more than obvious now that a nationwide lockdown wasn't actually necessary, if you just look at all the numbers.
For the people who are going to tell me it’s easy to be a general after the battle is over, that’s not really the point here; the point is the massive range of measures available, stretching from doing absolutely nothing to a total shutdown.

So, is there a chance this whole COVID-19 situation is going to multiply that behavior, or are people going to stay just as irresponsible as they were before?

btw, your whole line of reasoning is exactly the same as saying people die from the flu, too.

So now you're clinging to that point, even though you don't even realize 😂

The system is broken regardless. That's just how it is.

I rest my case.

Look... you're missing the point about how this works on an individual level.

I don't get why you're tripping over me saying that for someone born back in 1920, basically anything could be a life-ending event🤷.

Seriously, explain this to me: take a guy born in 1920 who’s already dealing with a bunch of heavy diagnoses—like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart issues, or whatever else most people from that era struggle with—how is COVID really the cause of death for him?

In that scenario, COVID is pretty much just like a regular flu, it just gives an already weakened body that final little nudge.

No, I disagree. It happened now for the exact same reasons it always has; the only difference is that nowadays, they actually have an "excuse" for their negligence.

Well, it seems we’ve reached a point where everyone is just attacking one another. I suppose that certainly wasn't the intended purpose of the text or the experience being shared 😵

There is a spectrum, certainly.

In our case, we didn't even implement a complete lockdown, so I truly believe we didn't go to any extremes. Most of you seem generally dissatisfied with the measures taken, yet you don't have—and especially didn't have back in early March—a clear vision of what specifically you would have done differently. I am talking about the entire system, the entire country. Let's be honest, probably nobody actually has that kind of blueprint.

Furthermore, it is an issue—and something I have witnessed firsthand within certain sectors of the public service I deal with—that people have interpreted safety guidelines very selectively, often interpreting them in whatever way allowed them to do the least amount of work. I wouldn't be surprised if that's been happening in parts of the non-COVID healthcare sector too. But then again, that is simply a flaw in a decaying system, and that decay has merely become more visible due to this stressful situation.

And perhaps that’s for the best; maybe more people will finally see things for what they are. Because once the virus passes, the rot will still be there.

Not just yet! I’m holding off a little longer to let the initial hype die down first.
But honestly, I can already see it happening: ten years from now, some new version of Elizabeth Mendoza will be complaining that they’ve churned out 25 different Star Wars movies and series, and they'll be absolutely fed up with Disney.
