I guess there’s someone on this forum who actually knows their stuff regarding boxing glove quality and, maybe, the best ways to pick them up without getting ripped off?

Can someone tell me what the weight classes are in Muay Thai? I'm assuming they split you up by gender, age, and weight, but I'm looking for more specifics.
Thanks!

So, does anyone know if there’s actually a kickboxing club in a city like San Diego that offers both morning and afternoon sessions? My college schedule is absolutely killing me right now, and honestly, I’m just not feeling the vibe of only being able to train two days a week...

If there isn't anything specifically for kickboxing, is there maybe some other martial arts gym out there with a more flexible schedule like that?

Thanks!

Well, most training sessions usually run around 8 PM... honestly, I don't think they have much going on during the day—unless you're looking at the kids' classes for the under-14 crowd...

KBK Mornar

That’s their main site, so you can find pretty much everything you need to know about them right there...

KBK Ameno
Over at Ameno, they do Muay Thai on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8 PM... they have kickboxing too, but I haven't checked their specific times... here's their email just in case: kbk.ameno@gmail.com They're located over in the Westside area, on Odeska Ave 14...

KBK Marjan
At Marjan, I think they have Muay Thai on Tuesday and Thursday mornings... if you want the actual specifics, you could try reaching out to the coach, Peter Mijic, at 091/485 2261—assuming he hasn't changed his number since last year...🤷...
They offer kickboxing as well... training takes place at the local gym complex, Hall No. 3 (at least for Muay Thai, not sure about the kickboxing bit)...

My buddy and I (both students) want to start training—something, anything. Just looking for some martial arts or combat sports for fitness, or maybe just a way to blow off steam after a long day. My classes run pretty late in the afternoon, so an evening slot would be ideal. Asking you veterans here: what do you actually recommend? I’m staying over by the river, he’s near the quad, so we need something close to me to avoid a massive commute—plus, I already have to head toward 7.5 miles in one direction 😁

What sounds good to you? Pick your interests:

Striking with hands
Striking with legs
Throws and takedowns
Ground fighting
Weapon training
All of the above🙂

I'm curious about a lot of this—honestly, I think it’s just because I haven't actually stepped foot in a gym yet.

Striking with hands and feet would be my first choice—maybe because I have absolutely no clue what ground fighting even entails? 😁

Here is an example of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which basically serves as the foundation for ground fighting.

You can also add strikes to that, and it looks like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_mxPgYe1wM

Essentially, ground fighting is what you see in the UFC when fighters hit the floor.

If that doesn't grab you, but you're interested in hand and foot striking, then Muay Thai or kickboxing might be more your style:

To start with, I don't want anything too extreme—those first three videos look pretty brutal, honestly.
I like both Muay Thai and kickboxing, though I'm leaning toward Muay Thai.

Is there something where I could focus on conditioning, bag work, and stuff like that first, before jumping into the more "advanced" techniques? It’s not like I’m in peak physical shape—though I was hitting the stationary bike twice 12 miles a day all summer and built up cardio fast—but I haven't done anything for over a month, so I've lost that edge. So, essentially, something for fitness and conditioning first, coordination, whatever comes first? A friend wants to join too, so having a partner for drills would be great—we're both starting from zero.

Anyway, just tell me straight—what kind of prices are we looking at? I'm a student; I can't exactly drop $250$100 a month, so I'd rather know now if I should even bother.😢

Here’s something that’s "relatively close" to a save and won't break the bank:

Take a look under the sub-sections; there's other stuff listed there too.

Hey there!
So, here’s the deal—I’m thinking about finally getting off my butt and starting some kind of martial arts training... you know, actually learning how to fight properly...
I could really use some pointers on what to pick
First off, I’m definitely not feeling anything that involves grappling, wrestling, or just rolling around on the floor like a bunch of kids; that whole ground fighting thing just doesn't do it for me.
I’m way more interested in stuff where you’re throwing hands, or even better, using your legs to sweep people out from under them or something like that.
Also, I think it would be pretty cool to learn weapons work, like fighting with sticks or whatever else is out there. 😁
Plus, I wouldn't mind if the style had a bit of that spiritual side to it—you know, finding some inner peace, meditation, and all that Zen stuff—but honestly, that’s not a dealbreaker or anything.
Just a heads up, I’m a pretty tall guy (not sure if that actually matters or not, but hey, just saying).
I also wanted to ask about what’s going on this Saturday. I’ve been looking around, but I haven't seen anything that really hits the spot, even though it would be awesome if it did.

Oh, and I totally forgot to mention—it would be killer if the style was, I don't know, dynamic and fluid...
Like, something that actually looks good when you see it move... feel free to drop some videos if you guys have them! 🙂

hmm... so I've been doing some digging and scrolling through everything, and honestly? I'm not really feeling it.. I mean, it's alright, I guess, but it just doesn't click for me
over the last few days, I’ve basically been deep-diving into all this martial arts stuff
and I guess Wing Tsun and Ninjutsu kind of caught my eye
I know I might sound a little crazy even considering Ninjutsu, but hey, whatever, right? It’s got everything I’m actually into, and honestly, that whole lifestyle they have is just super fascinating to me, so at the end of the day, I can't really help myself—I'm kind of a total ninja at heart😁 I know it sounds a bit shallow, but who cares, I guess
the real kicker, obviously, is the money
$93but man, it's a ton of cash
on the other hand, Wing Tsun isn't quite as much of a vibe for me, though I did see it available in Columbus for about $30/mj

Hello everyone... I’m quite new to all of this, and I was actually hoping someone with a bit more experience might suggest something to help me unwind after a long day of classes and studying...

Wrong thread for this kind of question. Daniel Garcia, please move this.
If you're looking to blow off steam and you're a complete beginner, boxing is a solid choice.

Greetings! I am looking for some information—specifically, where in San Diego can I find kickboxing training at the most affordable rates? Also, does anyone know if there are any decent student discounts available?

I’m 20 years old, 5'9", and weigh about 207 lbs. I’ve never trained any kind of sport before, but I want to get started so I can boost my energy levels, improve my conditioning, build some self-confidence, and things like that. I'm particularly interested in disciplines like MMA because they offer a bit of everything.
I would really appreciate it if someone could step in and offer some recommendations.
What should I train, where should I go, and what gear do I need to pick up?
I live in San Diego, so I'd prefer to train around here.
Thanks in advance.
