Then I realized—wait, her own dad should be the one stepping in—so another case of verbal abuse just slides by unnoticed. Honestly, if it meant taking them to court, I’d love nothing more than to look a person like that right in the eye somewhere outside the gym.

Exactly—preach!👍

Does anyone know when we might see another martial arts tournament—something along the lines of that Star Wars style event they held back in San Diego a few years ago?

Look, I’m gonna throw out a few questions here, and thanks in advance for the replies, though someone probably already asked this. I’m based out of somewhere like St. Louis and I’m looking to get into boxing, so if anyone could give me some advice on how to actually start or what the deal is, I’d appreciate it. Also, if anyone feels like explaining the whole grind—like what training actually looks like and what you're doing day-to-day—because honestly, I don't know anything about it. Thanks a ton!!!

Does anyone happen to know where I could go to train kung-fu in the States?

Maybe do a quick search through the forum first... if I remember right, che explained once that "kung fu" basically just means time spent or effort invested. It’s a bit of a misnomer, really. Plus, there are so many different Chinese styles out there—hard style, soft style... we've had endless threads about this exact stuff here, so just dig around a little. Wing Chun is probably the most common one you'll find around here since it's from China, though honestly, I wouldn't suggest starting with that locally... you'll see why if you look at any of the ten thousand Wing Chun threads floating around this board. Just... yeah...

Alright, I’ve gone through this entire thread from top to bottom. Does anyone actually know where I can go to train wrestling or Jiu-Jitsu here in the city? Also, could someone give me a more detailed breakdown of what you actually learn in those classes? Like, what’s the actual curriculum?

thx

Giving up already?

Just kidding. It’d help if you said what you're actually looking for. A "sport" or a "skill"? You wanna scrap in a ring or just find some inner peace? Or maybe you just need to stretch a bit? Or you just want that black belt ASAP?

I'm just kidding. It would actually be super helpful if you could tell me what you're looking to train. Are we talking about a full-blown "sport," or are you just trying to pick up a new "skill"? Do you want to get in the ring and go toe-to-toe with someone, or are you more interested in finding some inner peace? Maybe you just need a bit of stretching to stay limber? Or is the goal to grab that black belt as fast as possible?

Inner peace and a black belt.😉

So I’d say maybe some decent sport karate or Tae Kwon Do paired with yoga. I bet there's someone around here who teaches Uechi-Ryu and Tai Chi too—that would probably suit you... 😬

Can anyone point me toward a site with defense techniques—knife stuff, handgun stuff, whatever? Ideally with pics and videos, but even just diagrams would be killer.
Thanks

I provide instructions to those who are actually ready to commit to a daily regimen—though, if I’m being honest, I’m much more soft-hearted than >. Still, they need to understand the reality of it: every single tedious movement must be repeated at least 10 times 10—yes, you heard me—and they won't see any sparring for at least three months.

Morning 🙂

I’m looking to sign up for some kind of martial art or combat sport. My main priority is finding a gym in downtown Los Angeles—something near the DTLA area would be perfect. I don't want anything too brutal; just something solid for recreational training 🙂. Since I'm 23, I definitely want to avoid those classes where you're stuck training alongside middle school kids 🙂.

I was wondering if there are any clubs in Tampa where I could learn self-defense or just train recreationally, especially since I'm a total beginner when it comes to martial arts.😕

I’m looking to sign up for some kind of martial arts or combat sport. My main priority is finding something located in the inner city—somewhere near downtown or the central district would be ideal. I don't want anything too brutal; just something approachable and fun for recreational training. 🙂 Yeah, I'm 23. There's no way I'm training with a bunch of seventh graders right now. 🙂

Check this out. I just stumbled upon a massive update from Pro Fight Store. They’re rolling out a whole new lineup of gear that looks legit. If you're looking to upgrade your kit, this is worth a look. Straight to the point—new stuff is officially here.
Look, you’ll get a girl and some recreational fun. Don't sweat it—it’s not going to be brutal unless you actually want it to be. Most people wouldn't even dream of it that way anyway.😈 )
Training sessions are held over at the high school near the Sheraton in downtown Chicago. It’s a classic prep school setup.
Three times a week. That’s the goal.

I'm looking to sign up for some kind of martial art or combat sport—nothing too crazy, just something good for hobbyists. Ideally, I want to train somewhere in the heart of downtown—around the Times Square area would be perfect... 🙂 Yeah, I'm 23—not exactly looking to train with seventh graders from middle school... 🙂

Imagine this—you’ve got a whole lounge setup at New Quatric, right across from the plaza, tucked inside a nuclear bunker. They’ve got recreational stuff going on, even massage services... And Mladen? Man, his voice hits like 120 dB...

Does anyone know where I can pick up a wrestling singlet in Chicago? I checked out the Rost Sport shop near the United Center, but they didn't have any in stock.
