Joshua Clark said:Save that pity kiss for someone else. You have no idea how I handle my heavy bag work—you were pretty insulting about it, so don't judge before you know. (Sorry, you really got under my skin here.)
If you’re actually curious, I’ve got plenty of street experience. For me, the bag is just a way to blow off steam. Plus, now that I have a kid, I want to keep my training sessions in a controlled gym environment.
Yeah, I want contact. I'm down for sparring. Keep talking.

Look, trying to use "street experience" on a heavy bag is just a fast track to an injury, especially if you're just using it to vent. Believe me, I know what I'm talking about—I spent plenty of time on the streets before I ever stepped foot in a gym. Trust me, there are tons of guys who think like you (I used to be one of them too) and end up doing themselves a massive disservice.

Check this link for info on the club. They always have women training there, so don't worry about that. You won't be dealing with injuries, the environment is totally controlled, and the coaches are easily the best Muay Thai instructors in the country (okay, maybe that's biased, but I'm telling you the truth). The crew is awesome and the vibe is great.

Injuries?? Honestly, injuries don't phase me—I'm not your typical girl.
You didn't show me this before, right? your link?
Tomorrow I’m heading to my first session with the instructor I already booked—if I don't like the vibe, I'm calling the Holy Spirit.
THIS QUOTE TOTALLY MADE MY DAY:
"There are girls in the club too. Do they run the same drills?

Of course. This is a Muay Thai gym. If you aren't down with everything that comes with training—which is pain, sweat, and tears—then go join an aerobics class. I don't let the students dictate how the club runs; it works the other way around.
Anyone who accepts those terms and wants to train competitively or recreationally is more than welcome at Holly Spirit."

Joshua Clark here. Just checking in. Everything is looking good on my end! kaže:
Injuries? Please. They don't phase me. I’m not exactly your typical lady.
Hey, Zake, you haven't shown me this before, have you? Where's your link??
Tomorrow is my first training session with that instructor I already lined up. If I don't like what I see, I'm calling for divine intervention!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS QUOTE:
There are girls in the club too. Do they go through the same drill?

Look, let’s get one thing straight. This is a Muay Thai gym. If you aren't looking for pain, sweat, and tears, then do us all a favor and head over to an aerobics class instead. I don't run this club by catering to the whims of my students; the students follow the club. Period.
If you're down with these terms and looking to train either competitively or just for fun, welcome to the Holly Spirit club!

Hey! Just popping in to say hello! Hope everyone is having an absolutely fantastic day! ✨

I told you I had a club in my backyard!
Damir is an absolute legend. Seriously, he’s a phenomenal coach who lives and breathes Muay Thai.

I heard an Aikido club just started up over in Grand Rapids, so if anyone has any intel on the club, the instructor, or anything else, please let me know. Thanks! 👍

Hey everyone 🙂

So, I’m super stoked about martial arts—and I mean actual skills. To me, there’s a massive difference between just playing a sport and learning a real skill, and honestly, the competitive sports aspect doesn't interest me at all. That's why I stopped training Nanbudo back when I was a kid.
I'm 19, and I recently started Wing Chun on Saturdays. (By the way, Dragomir Horvat isn't running it anymore; it's two younger guys now who are really solid, hardworking, and super approachable...)
Since this is basically a student club and all that, we have way too many people for such a small space. Plus, we only train twice a week, so I'm looking to pick up something else as well.
I'm drawn to styles similar to Kung Fu, so I'm stuck between Shorinji Kempo and Hapkido. (Feel free to set me straight if I'm wrong about how much they resemble Kung Fu or if I misspelled anything!)
I'm asking you guys—anyone with experience in these styles—to give me a quick rundown of what they're like. Also, if you have any club recommendations, let me know.
For Kempo, I've been checking out these links:
http://www.white-lotus-martial-arts.com/ (but their schedule doesn't work for me since it clashes with my Wing Chun days)
http://www.shaolin-usa.com/
http://www.zenyoga.com/kempo/kempotraining.html
http://www.anan-do.com/images/_kempo.htm
As for Hapkido, I found:
http://www.angelfire.com/celeb/hapkido/First.htm
http://www.dangun-academy.com/pages/hapkido-techniques.htm

Also, if anyone has suggestions for other disciplines, I'm all ears.
Just so you know, I'm ready to put in the hard work and train consistently. Physical conditioning isn't an issue for me at all.
Thanks in advance for any helpful advice! 🙏 (I'll buy a beer for the most helpful response 🙂 🙂)

and yeah, I'm fully prepared to put in the work and train consistently—fitness isn't really an issue for me

Hey, does anyone know where I can pick up a Taekwondo uniform and those specific sparring shoes?
I'm also wondering about the general price range for both
I'm looking specifically in the Chicago area
thanks!

I was wondering, is there a boxing club in Vinkovci?

If they're actually out there, they probably don't want any attention.
Either way, you won't find them online.

Hapkido at:

My two cents...

White Lotus probably isn't your vibe.
Shaolin Club is a solid spot. Grga might look rough, but he's actually a great guy. They do wrestling basics there too—and the BBQs are legendary.
Not sure about Anan-do... maybe wait until you have a decent foundation. Plus, I think the instructor isn't even in the States right now.
That Zen Yoga stuff? Probably not for you.

Rojecky... skip him. 😬
At Dangun, they teach Hapkido under Mladen. Good dude, but honestly, you'll probably find Miran Škerl (who teaches Grga) way more interesting...

🙂 Does anyone happen to know where one might find self-defense classes being held in Pula, assuming they are currently being offered at all?

self-defense course🤣
Learn to defend yourself against anyone in just 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week! Plus, if you call right now, you'll get this gorgeous cooking pot and hairbrush for free...
Sorry guys, I had to. Adam Fox5, stay far away from any "self-defense course."

Maybe someone thinks it’s something similar to Krav Maga? From what I can tell, they market it as self-defense—at least that's how the reporters on the news were framing it when they showed that seminar—but everyone seems to be praising it...

Don't worry about the "self-defense" part; it's that whole "course" terminology that bugs me.😉

Hey guys, can someone break down what Wing Chun actually is for me? (And please, if I'm spelling it wrong, set me straight.) Where can I even go to train this stuff? Could you give me a quick rundown of the techniques or maybe compare it to something else so I get the vibe?
Also, anyone here from the Chicago area? What’s the deal with that kickboxing club "South Side 2"? Is it any good? It’s basically my only option since I can't make it to training anywhere else.

Wait, I didn't even catch that. You’ve got a point though... maybe we should just ban using the word "course" and "martial arts" in the same sentence altogether.

Hey, I’m looking for some info—does anyone know of a combat sports club around here? If you do, hit me up, but just a heads-up: I’m basically a product of pure chaos, so don't bother with all that "honor and discipline" nonsense. What I’m really after is a place where they organize actual sparring sessions, something more along the lines of those extreme underground shows. Is a lack of aggression in my weekly routine actually messing with my health? Or, if there isn't such a place, let's start a discussion and organize some "therapy sessions" for everyone craving a good scrap. We could even scout out some young talent ready to get a little roughed up. You know how it is—there's a long tradition of this kind of thing in certain Eastern cultures, and since everyone seems so obsessed with it, why don't we make it happen for our dear countrymen? Let them get beat up just like they used to beat others up. Honestly, I'm ready to lead this whole little happening, even if I have to throw some punches myself. It's what needs to be done. To keep it brief, I'll just list a sample price list of what our "services" would include—things you'd gladly pay for, while we provide extra rewards based on how much you spend and show us your receipts... Anyway, I won't drone on and depress you before we've even started. Here is the menu:

Type of Beatdown: Price in USD:

Two-minute slapping session $6.75
Two-minute kicking session $17
*Instant Knockout $167
**Ambiguous Stand-up Fight $33
***Current Paralysis / Ring Flight via Presentation $33
****Fight Against a Duo in Harmony $233

...and it all boils down to one thing: gambling. Just like how people over in Tokyo or Beijing love to bet, if I crank up your nerves, trigger your emotions, and drive you into a rage, and you find yourself actually wanting a beating, I’ve got just the treatment for you.... COME AND GET SOME REAL BAD...DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU...
...................... $1667

* A special treatment designed for the bravest of the bunch—and by that, I mean the men. This is the most expensive option because it involves a single strike that knocks you out cold, allowing you to go home happy knowing you were foolish enough to pay for it. The price is hiked up specifically due to the guilt involved. Think about it.

** A treatment tailored for the cynics who aren't quite committed enough to pay full price for a knockout. Instead, they'd rather dominate the scene. For these folks, I offer a slightly less painful way to lose money—a method that's almost enjoyable, where you hop around a bit before finally transitioning to a horizontal position.

*** This one is for the total skeptics. It's essentially a demonstration meant to intimidate whoever paid thinking they'd get a better deal than the guy described in the previous section. Basically, whether you believe in it or not, this is a total "show program" where I demonstrate martial arts techniques like choking, paralyzing, and suffocating, ultimately forcing you to exit the ring of your own volition....

**** This treatment is intended for best friends who think teaming up makes them smarter or stronger—well, we'll see about that. The hint regarding "harmony" is that I have to act like a conductor; one of the candidates interested in this package will literally have to scream to make their partner recoil from the sight, causing them to forfeit. This adds a psychological layer to the service and serves as proof that true friendship doesn't exist... at least, not in this context.

I don't know you, so decide for yourselves: do you want someone to take you out, or would you rather keep your cash, head down to a local dive, and just stay out of trouble?

Now, take another look at the light. Could that be the last thing you ever see after me? Peace—I didn't mean to interrupt, but I’m genuinely curious about some of those notorious clubs in NYC, because honestly, man, I could get bored in a place like Chicago for a lifetime....
