They definitely need to run some tests (maybe a sinus CT scan?), because there's no way
running a fever that high for that long is normal.
I was sitting at 99.1 for two weeks and they ended up finding pneumonia
and, honestly, just a nasty sinus infection. 😲
As for doctors—they're all pretty much the same. My
dear doc always tells me: you've gotta learn how to stand up for yourself. Even though I haven't
quite mastered that yet... 🙄
But at least mine actually sends me for testing.

Good luck!👋

Last week I caught something resembling the flu: fluctuating temperatures ranging from 99 to 101 degrees (higher at night than during the day), headaches, and swollen, tender lymph nodes in my neck—though nothing in my groin or armpits. I had similar symptoms about a month ago, but back then it came with throat, sinus, and respiratory infections that left me sidelined for ten days. 🙄

Last time, I just took antibiotics, but this time I rushed to the doctor by the second day to prevent things from getting worse. They ran blood work (the CRP test wasn't definitive, so they couldn't tell if it was viral or bacterial), and now mono is a possibility. I got the results today after calling my primary care physician's office. The assistant first told me "everything looks fine," so I asked which specific bacteria we were dealing with, considering my wife is pregnant. After she went to check the files, she came back saying, "We don't know exactly which bacteria it is, but we tested for infectious and dangerous diseases, and none of those were present."

How do these labs actually operate? I see they have different test panels, and now I’m wondering: can you specifically hunt for one bacterium, or does the test identify whatever is there? The answer I got wasn't satisfying, and I suspect either my doctor or his assistant is stalling because they don't want to dig through the actual results and are just guessing. I’d feel terrible if I passed something to my wife; she doesn't need an infection on top of a pregnancy.

I believe you mean a CRP test (not CPR).

Yes, it’s entirely possible to prove only what was specifically requested. There are standard tests used to identify the most common culprits. Anything outside those parameters requires a specific search. (Furthermore, just because they couldn't isolate a particular bacterium doesn't mean it wasn't there—it might simply mean the isolation and culture process failed.)

Next time, please sit down with the doctor and clearly explain your concerns regarding your wife and her health.

Well, I expect there won't be any cause for worry and everything will turn out just fine. 🙂

You can always just wear a mask while you're walking around the house 😁
That's what a good friend of mine does since he has little kids running around...

This year has been a relentless cycle—I’ve already been sick four times, each bout dragging on for about 7 to 10 days... and here I am again, starting my fifth round since yesterday. I can't quite pinpoint why this keeps happening; it seems like every time there’s a sudden shift in the weather or a sharp drop in temperature, I immediately come down with the flu...
I feel absolutely miserable. Every single time I notice the first signs, I immediately start drinking tea—and if I have any leftover antibiotics from the last time I was sick, I start taking those right away—but honestly, there's no stopping it... everything just drags out for about 10 days. It's exhausting.
What is actually wrong with me, and what should I do about it???

Weak immune system?

Just load up on bacon, onions, and vitamins, and you won't have any issues with the flu.😉

I was completely unaware that people were treating the flu with antibiotics. I had always operated under the assumption that antibiotics were strictly for fighting inflammation. 🤔

The reality is—every single time I come down with a sore throat or strep, it’s the same story.

Angela Hill said:Weak immunity? That is a broad, rather imprecise question—though I suppose "weakness" is the word most people reach for when they find themselves constantly battling every seasonal bug that drifts through the air. If you feel like your defenses are perpetually compromised, it isn’t usually down to one single failure, but rather a systemic lack of equilibrium. People tend to look for a magic pill—some mythical "food - miracle cure"—but biology doesn't operate on such simplistic terms. It is a complex interplay of nutrition, chronic stress, and sleep hygiene. You cannot simply supplement your way out of a lifestyle that ignores basic physiological needs. Of course, there is the modern obsession with over-supplementation. Everyone wants to load up on Vitamin C or run to Walgreens for every minor ailment. While certain elements like Zinc or Vitamin D are undeniably foundational, throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks is a misguided strategy. One must also consider the gut microbiome—the silent engine of the immune system. If your diet consists mostly of processed junk, no amount of Echinacea is going to perform a miracle. You need stability. You need consistency. And frankly, you need to stop looking for shortcuts where none exist.

Go hard on the bacon, the onions, and your vitamins—do that, and you won't have any issues with the flu. 😉

Look, I do everything by the book—seriously, almost every single day I’m drinking Cedevit, and occasionally I’ll take that LGG stuff specifically to bolster my immune system. I eat plenty of fruit...

Woke up with a brutal headache, a fever, and aching bones. I can't deal with this, but I have to drag myself to campus every single day because attendance isn't optional here.😢

Anyone else dealing with this flu/virus crap while being forced to show up for work or class?

Ugh... total coma mode. I’ve downed a liter of tea and it’s doing nothing. Nothing helps... and my eyes are burning like crazy.
😢

Why do I have to catch some stupid fever every single winter?

😕

Is the flu season already kicking off this year? Seems way too early for that kind of nonsense to be hitting us...

And all those other viruses... ugh. Just great.

Look, I’m not dragging myself into work if I’ve got a fever—honestly, I can barely lift my head when that happens. Or if I’m hacking up a lung, coughing like crazy, or dealing with a nose that won't stop running... in those cases, I'm staying put because the last thing I want to do is spread that misery to everyone else. That's just not cool.

I don't know... I decided to get my flu shot this year because last year was absolutely brutal. I spent three days feeling miserable—nausea, vomiting, a fever, and I couldn't even sleep because the aches were so intense. That’s why I told myself, "Not this year, get the vaccine."
Nah, right now there's just some minor bug going around that lasts a day or two, nothing major.
I'm just waiting for the real flu season to kick in so we can see if the shot actually does anything.😁 😉

By the way, Lupocet used to be a total lifesaver for me whenever I had the flu.👍

Just feeling super down and paranoid right now

But we honestly thought the dear guy just had the flu... turns out he’s heading to the infectious disease hospital tomorrow—it's actually mononucleosis

And we were just making out, and now I feel like I can't even move or anything

Ugh, damn

Kevin White5, you aren't the only one feeling this way. I drop my kid off at daycare, and it's just one teacher and two kids left. Everyone else is stuck at home with a fever. Then I roll into work, and a third of my colleagues are complaining about the exact same symptoms.

From what I can tell, it’s all viruses and strep throat. Unbelievable...

Hopefully, this blows over quickly. Can you imagine when the actual flu season hits?

Honestly, I feel dead... taking some Tylenol right now to try and bring this fever down.
It's generally not a good idea to lower a fever unless it's actually high. I'm not feeling great either.
And it went up!
Ugh...
Now I'm sitting at 100.0.😢
And swallowing is impossible.😢

At least I'm glad I'm not home with my family; they all have the flu, and somehow I escaped it... though I really need to be better by tomorrow!
I absolutely haaaaave to.
Ugh.

Hey brisknomad6, did you end up going to get tested for mono?

P.S. A friend told me I should probably do some physical activity right now to work up a massive sweat... Men, even when you're sick, they just want to find ways to use you with their endless talking... haha.

Older people really ought to get vaccinated. My grandma is doing terrible right now because she hates hospitals and skipped her shot... now she's paying the price. If anyone over 60 is reading this (Jamie Clark74?), just go get the jab.

It wasn't me...

So, yeah, my dear, we just got back from the infectious disease hospital here in town.

Turns out it's mononucleosis. 😢

The doctors said I should probably see how things go in about 2 to 5 weeks.

So, uh, no kissing and definitely no sex for now. 😢

Wait, seriously... is the flu already making its rounds? Seriously?!

Yeah, I’m thinking it's way too early for this stuff too—but then again, Kevin White5 says her roommates are already coming down with the flu, so that's why I'm even asking...
