Does anyone happen to know if there's some kind of website out there where you can actually drop questions for gynecologists and get real answers, obviously?... Pliva Health doesn't really support that kind of thing anymore, and I’m honestly feeling a bit lost on where else to even look...😕
Help

Tnx 😘

I haven't noticed Dr. Harni engaging with any questions on his own forum lately. However, it looks like the Gynecology sub-forum over on Cybermed is actually up and running again, so you might want to give it a shot there.

I'm looking for a solid gynecologist in Columbus—ideally someone covered by my insurance. I just want a doctor who actually has five minutes to spare and can hold a conversation. It feels like some OB-GYNs assume every woman already has a side doctor they go to for actual advice, and they're just there for the physical exam.🙄 As if I'm supposed to know everything already.
Honestly, I’ve spent the last 10 or 15 years reading endless forums, skimming news articles, and listening to whatever gossip comes from radio shows or friends—but trying to diagnose myself? Not happening. And this guy I'm seeing talks more to himself than he does to me! If I actually ask him something, he gives me these clipped, one-word answers, but then acts like I should have known what to ask in the first place—look, I didn't spend years in med school!
Does anyone else get this vibe, or am I just incredibly lucky to have found such a "phenomenal" doctor? 👎
Consider me officially joining the hunt for a decent specialist—one where you don't have to wait two weeks just to get a straight answer.
P.S. I saw some people recommending Dr. Miller earlier, but I think he's retired or something.

Dr. Kos at the Vili Clinic... hands down the most compassionate and skilled doctor out there

I was actually just about to recommend him to you; he managed my first pregnancy, and I can say without reservation that his care was nothing short of exemplary.👍

Anyone know a solid OB-GYN or clinic over in the Osijek area? I'm looking for recommendations—doesn't matter if they take insurance or if it's private practice. Just need someone good.

So, here is why I started this thread in the first place.

Now that you all know what’s been going on with my situation... I have to ask: Is there any gynecologist in the city who will actually see you immediately if you're dealing with an issue like an infection?

About a month ago, I went to the campus health clinic, saw Dr. Greg, and told them it was urgent. I listed all my symptoms, but the nurse just told me that "emergencies" are only things like heavy bleeding, and that I’d need to book an appointment. So, I scheduled one three weeks out... and I explained everything during that booking.
I ended up seeing a GP instead, who prescribed some meds... and it seemed fine for a bit. But clearly, after those three weeks, things flared right back up. I had to get more antibiotics, and then it settled, only for the problems to return again yesterday.

I won't get into the gritty details; there’s really no point.

I can't just go to my regular doctor for free, and honestly, I want someone who takes my case seriously. It isn't normal to be dealing with these symptoms constantly for months at a time.

Please, if anyone has a solid recommendation, let me know. I don't care if it's a private practice—I am more than willing to pay for the exam and the tests just to get this resolved once and for all.

Where can I go right now to get actual advice and an exam?

Thanks so much. 👋

I’m dealing with almost identical issues myself... so I was wondering, did you ever manage to find a good gynecologist? My situation is a bit tougher because I just moved to the city and have no idea where to even start looking. If you don't mind, I would be so grateful if you could reply to my email: darta@net.hr

I’ve been looking into Harni... I think I’ll head there, but I’d really love to find someone who works with the Social Security Administration too. If anyone can help me out with that or recommend a good contact, I’d be so grateful! :-) =>In the US, obviously.
Otherwise, I had a nightmare experience with a terrible gynecologist in New York—Dr. Traven. She was cold, superficial, and just a complete nightmare. She prescribed antibiotics that totally wrecked my system, and I feel even worse now. On top of that, she started me on birth control without running any preliminary tests, which ended up giving me an allergic reaction! Her only comment was, "Well, you just didn't get lucky." It was completely demoralizing. And I’m definitely not the only one who’s dealt with her; the woman is an absolute disaster!

I actually have a question... when is it recommended for girls who haven't had sexual intercourse to go in for their first checkup? (Is there a specific age by which this should be done?) Also, what does that kind of exam actually look like? Thanks!🙂

So far, I’ve been seeing Dr. Dokic over in Dugave, and he is just... ugh, a total disaster. It feels like I have to explain everything myself and tell him exactly what needs to be done, so I’d honestly rather just pay a private doctor—like Dr. Husar over in Tratinska, because he is seriously awesome and explains everything so clearly. But right now, I need someone covered by insurance, not a private specialist, so I’d be so grateful if anyone knows a good one. Male or female, I don't mind. My current doctor is just grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrible... I even tried checking out the clinic at St. Jude's during my pregnancy thinking maybe they'd be better... but yeah, just awful.

Haha, oh yeah, I go there too! 😁 I think he's actually pretty decent. I show up, tell him what’s going on and what I need, and he writes up all my referrals and prescriptions perfectly, then I'm out of there. He isn't stingy with the referrals or the lab work either; I think I ended up getting basically EVERYTHING I could possibly think of! 😉
My favorite part is when I can't remember exactly what to ask for on a prescription, so I start listing things off, and then after the fifth thing I say, he goes, "Oh, that's the one!" 😁 😁

I have a doctor to recommend—perhaps someone has already mentioned him, as I haven't had the time to sift through every single post. Dr. Fistonić over on Main Street is a private practitioner, and he is truly excellent; more importantly, he maintains a very positive demeanor. He is approachable, and you can ask him absolutely anything.

I have been through quite a few doctors myself, mostly at the public clinics, and I am profoundly disappointed by their approach—regardless of whether they are men or women.
Everything from being treated like an idiot to having any question met with a sharp retort before being kicked out of the office. Then there is the issue of them skimping on diagnostic tests; for instance, failing to send you for bacterial or viral screening following a poor Pap smear result.
I see Topalović being mentioned here, but he certainly didn't leave much of an impression on me. And the worst are the nurses at that university clinic, who act as if they won't see you for any pain, itching, or discomfort unless you are a life-threatening emergency. What kind of nonsense is that? Perhaps I don't feel it now, but in a month or two, I surely will if an infection spreads to my pelvic area. Not to mention how such issues make it impossible to concentrate on college or work.

It was a total catastrophe. I still remember my first infection; I cycled through four gynecologists in just six months, and none of them could diagnose the issue. They simply kept prescribing vaginal suppositories that did nothing to help, all while patronizing me by suggesting my boyfriend was cheating and reinfecting me—even though he wasn't. We used protection every single time and were using the same medications, and we abstained from intimacy entirely while I was undergoing treatment. How else was I supposed to catch it, by sheer willpower? And then there was the absolute absurdity of them suggesting it was caused by wearing tight pants. No one bothered to actually listen to my symptoms, and it turned out the issue was urological. Would any of those self-proclaimed experts have thought to send me for full swabs or a referral to a urologist if they actually knew what they were doing?

Then there is that famous Topalović, who told me I had PCOS, only for that to be proven wrong later. Or the doctor over at the suburban clinic who couldn't be bothered to send me for an HPV or Chlamydia test after three separate visits. When I asked him what caused the infection, he claimed it happens to girls who become sexually active early or are promiscuous—and I was twenty years old!

Regardless, I cannot fathom why I was foolish enough not to seek private care sooner. My advice to other women is this: regardless of your budget, go to a private specialist. Do not hesitate to spend the money, because health is priceless. It is better to skip a few outings or forgo a new outfit than to pay a professional once a year who treats you like a human being rather than a mere diagnosis, and who will actually answer your questions and order the necessary tests.

It is far better than discovering ten years later that you are infertile or facing some other tragedy.

I daresay one might argue that a truly exceptional gynecologist simply does not exist in this country...

So what, you're saying the only good one is in NYC? That's pretty depressing...🙄
See, I can't get behind that. I'm sure there are great doctors in other cities too, maybe they just haven't stepped up to the plate yet, or people aren't looking hard enough.

It’s not just about whether it exists in Chicago—according to what Mrs. Norris said, it doesn't exist anywhere. I wouldn't know about other cities...
I was in college during those years... and ever since I graduated... yeah, the nurses can be a bit much. When I was 18, they were actually terrifying, but nowadays? I know how to handle them—or just tell them to back off. As for Dr. Topalović—his bedside manner is pretty abysmal (unless you're pregnant), but for me, he’s a top-tier diagnostician. He never skimp on tests or referrals if it's necessary... so there.

It's not that I actually like the man—he is my gynecologist, after all😬 but even so, I can't bring myself to agree with the lady... 😉

So, I have a question. I’ve never actually been to one of these appointments before, so I’m just curious... when you ladies go to the gynecologist, do you usually wear skirts, or do you just show up in pants? And also—does there exist a doctor out there who actually provides those little gowns you can just slip on and pull up when needed? 🙏
Yeah, actually, I was wondering—what is the exam even like when you go for the first time and you're still a virgin? 🙂
Thanks a million!

Thanks so much!

Honestly, I find the idea of wearing a skirt just because you're at the doctor a bit silly—I mean, you're already showing them your most private parts, so why bother worrying about half your backside?
I always just show up in pants. My nurse stays in the other room anyway—and even if she does come in, the exam table is tucked behind a curtain along with the changing area, so everything is pretty private.
Of course, if you're more on the shy side, do whatever makes you comfortable...
As for the specifics of a first-time exam, I'll leave that to someone else—hopefully someone who knows more than I do!

Since back in 2003, I’ve been dealing with infections every single month. Every gynecologist I saw—six in total, ranging from those at community clinics to my private specialists—just gave me some creams or vaginal suppositories, flashed a smile, took my money, and sent me on my way. Once these infections started hitting me every two or three months, I finally snapped and looked up Virogen online. Following a doctor's recommendation, I went through every possible swab test imaginable and just threw $400everything out the window.
It turns out everything came back positive. Apparently, I'm in a complete mess because the root cause was HPV—something absolutely nobody suspected, not even my PRIVATE doctor, the one I’ve been seeing since day one who consistently charged me at least $83 per visit.
All the other bacterial issues are just consequences of the HPV activity, likely because my immune system is clearly shot. Because I was treated so incompetently all this time, I’m now stuck dealing with the fallout... mentally, physically, and financially.
I can't help but wonder if I'll ever be able to have children...

Honestly, I just wish I were living in America right now... LAWSUIT; LAWSUIT;

Virogen actually has a Q&A section, and Dr. Dorić is wonderful and always helpful. I don't regret a single cent spent with her.😉
