So here I am, finally sharing my story. I’ve dealt with agonizing periods my whole life, but once I hit 20, it turned into an absolute monthly nightmare. Every single month, I was ending up in the ER. Back in 2003, my gynecologists did a laparoscopy to figure out what was going on. Everything came back perfectly normal—they literally told me my anatomy was "clean." So, they put me on birth control. I took it from 2003 to 2007 with a few breaks, and honestly, I felt fine. Then, my husband and I decided we wanted a baby, so I stopped taking them. From 2007 until August 2008, my life became pure hell. It was the same loop: vomiting, feeling weak, and these brutal abdominal cramps for two or three days during my period, then it would settle down, only to come crashing back on days seven and eight when the cycle was wrapping up. The pain drove me insane. When I eventually got pregnant, the pregnancy itself went smoothly, and honestly, labor was easier. But just five months after giving birth, the pain came roaring back. It got so bad I actually lost my milk supply because of the agony. The horror started all over again. I went back to the doctor, and the response? "Either have another kid or stick to the pill." Well, what choice did I have? I started taking them again. I wasn't ready for another pregnancy anyway. In the meantime, I tried everything—from energy healing to herbal supplements, even food intolerance testing. I tried it all. But I have to say, when I was on Logest, things were better. I stayed on them from 2009 until 2012, but then they started messing with me. I had to quit, but thank God, after three months off, I conceived my second child. I was saved.🙂Fast forward to today: it's day two of my period, four months postpartum. Like I said, labor was easier, but now I'm lying in bed, totally incapacitated, unable to even look after my kids. My husband has to constantly leave work every single month because I’m still stuck vomiting. I can’t eat, I can’t drink, I can’t even take a Tylenol without issues. Last month, we ended up in the ER again. Their big advice? Take two Naproxen two days before your period starts. I did that. Nothing. I tried taking Aspirin ten days before. Nothing. After two kids, I’m just at my wit's end. All my tests come back normal, so there's no organic issue. I've tried evening primrose tea, I've followed strict diets—during those three months before I got pregnant, I was taking California Gold Primrose oil and following a specific diet based on my tests. Basically, I've done everything you girls mention online: cutting out dairy, caffeine, red meat, pork, canned food, hard cheeses, yogurt, wheat, corn... basically avoiding almost everything. And in the end, you realize you have nothing left to eat. I spent those three months wandering around Whole Foods looking for "healthy" options, but let's be real, I can't afford to shop like that constantly. Most of the time, I just stick to grains and veggies. Honestly, it feels like if you follow all the rules, you just end up starving. I try to stick to it as much as I can, but even that didn't help this time. And no, I’m not some cookie addict or sugar junkie; maybe a square of chocolate or a cracker here and there, but that's it. I don't even know what else to say, especially since we talk about psychosomatics. I’ve read that these pains can be emotional. Look, I’m a trained emotional psychology and hypnosis therapist. My colleagues have worked with me, and I’ve worked on myself. If the cause of a physical illness is truly physical, psychology or alternative methods won't fix it. They might dull the pain, which is what happened to me—the pain lessened, but it never actually went away. I was back at the OBGYN today, and it was the same old story. This time, though, he dropped a bombshell: "Maybe we should just remove your uterus. It's better to stay on the pill." I was in shock. I stood outside his office waiting for my husband to pick me up, just crying and crying from the sheer misery of it all. Now, I'm mentally bracing myself to take that first pill again.
So, that’s my life! Deep down, I really believed that once I had my second child, the pain would be over for good. But now... I don't know.😕
I haven't even mentioned the fact that I've been fired twice because of my periods.
